Once popular but forgotten rambling rose | Dorothy Perkins | Spring 2024
Thanks for bearing with me for taking a long break from RUclips video for a long time! I am happy to say that I am finally back at making video.
Today, I am excited to share with you my one and only one rambling rose in my garden, Dorathy Perkins!
It is an antique rose breed by E. Alvin Miller in 1901. Once upon a time, it was one of the most popular rambler in people's garden. It is famous for blooming profusely in cluster and I can totally see why people are attracted by this very charming rose.
I planted it 3 years ago from 1 gallon. It quickly covered the entire gazebo for me within the 1st year. What you see here is only 1 plant. It gives me some blooms for the past 2 years in spring an...

@ZazaMarkle Gertrude Jekyll is a rose that can grow as short climber or bush depends on how you prune it. I think it is best to grow it as climber coz you will get more blooms and it is not a rose that branch out well.

I don't think it was a deer because I have a fence around the area where it was planted. I am not sure if it was an animal or an insect. If you have any suggestions about how to prevent that please let me know. Hopefully the leaves will come back next spring.

They are delicate yet so strong and resilient. I love this kind of roses because of their wild delicate look, because as you said they are loved by bee and Co. and because they withstand everything unlike those roses packed with petals which in the sun will limp.. I cut respectively remove the spent bloom of the first flush but with the second wave of blooms I let the plant form hips so by Sept.-Okt. hips will form and take over the plant. Striking view not only when in bloom but those rose hips.
