When I do the Sot's Press I find myself having to raise myself up on my toes to get the bar over my head. I'm not sure if that's a mobility issue and/or strength issue. I plan on using a plate under my heels to see if that will help.

you fail to understand that if in you are in the middle of the soviet, barely living either working in the factories or lift weights on tv, they all would rather lift for a living not just for themselves, but thier family, they didnt do it for the love for the sport no, they did it bcaz they had TO,. they had no oother choice. hard life since birth so this may be why they can hadle so much bcaz its not about lifting the weights at all. it was to survive

Bulgarian weightlifting is literally just throwing a dozen eggs all at once at a wall, and the one survives, goes to the Olympics
The russians actually say that one's best bench press should be equal to one's snatch - therefore the bench program of 6 paused sets of 2 explosive reps should be done ONCE A WEEK at the exact weight of ones routine power snatch. Controlled descent, pause at the chest, and a solid lockout. As a strenght coheficient, your bench 1RM should be around 80% of your CnJ - it is a guideline for basic performance. To me, it helped me in the snatch and exploded my push press which made my jerk solid overhead while minimizing wrist pain.
I remember when I was a freshman in high school….
The things that fixed my early arm bend where fixing the rotation of my shoulders from the ground, getting my butt back in the squat (6'4" 70% legs) and the cue of "leaving the weight on the ground," but my absolute strength capacity was way past my technical ability.

Be careful using straps for snatch or cleans it's a good way to break a wrist.

The Bulgarian system is to turn the strong lifter into an Elite lifter. The system has brought results. It is brutal, but it works. Not wise to diss on it.

Of course it's not suitable for average people. In competitve environment you need to break that mental barrier over and over again in order to feel comfortable durung comp. Look at the latest Olympics. Karlos didnt miss a single lift and made a WR like he was going to get a cup of coffee. He was on holiday in France. Thats because he already overachieve that in trainings. He is ready for the next few records as of today...and only few can handle the damage.
After his olympic gold and record i would say that his already a Legend
