    It always strikes me that the Bennetts are not the only family with unfortunate relations: the Bingleys have the sisters and the Darcys have Lady Katherine.

    I only just found out this existed, love the fun of it along with the odd apology for coffee slurps and accent slips .. Wonderful, simply wonderful. The best Lizzie and along with Rosabund Pike the best narrator of Pride and Prejudice.

    The look on Mr Darcy's face in the BBC production when Lizzie said that her feelings had changed said to me "I might be a married man after all."

    In the 1995 BBC production, I think that Elizabeth's saucy speeches were what attracted Mr Darcy's attention to her. He was probably tired of those who tried to attract him because of his wealth (such as Miss Bingley).

    Darcy must have known that proper young ladies, like Jane Bennett, didn't show their feelings in public (unlike Caroline Bingley)

    I wondered why the Bennet girls didn't have a governess. Kitty and Lydia might have been corralled a bit if they had had one. Oh, wait, it's a story and the story wouldn't have gone forward if they had.

    It amused me to hear Mr Collins so frequently talk about how much money everything cost. It was considered to be a sign of very poor breeding in those days. (gathered from reading Georgette Heyer).

    I feel so honored to hear you say that you enjoy the feeling of community with your listeners. I was homeless in 2020 and I got housing in November 2023. I didn't become familiar with the 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice until a few weeks ago. With everyone else, I greatly admire your depiction of Elizabeth Bennet. I enjoy visiting with you in your home and I love Dorothy and Violet. It's so much fun to have them join in the group. Thank you.

    Personally, I think that the Bennetts were not the only family that had unfortunate relatives: Miss Bingley's attempts to undermine her rivals by cutting them down and throwing herself at Darcy's head didn't reflect well on Mr Bingley.

    What I want to know, Ms Ehle, is if it was you who sang at "Pemberley" in the 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice, or did you lip-sync?

  • @susanmercurio1060
    @susanmercurio1060 2 месяца назад

    In the BBC production, Darcy commented that Jane's reserve kept him from realizing that she was in love with Bingley, but in the Regency era, young women were not supposed to show their feelings in public. They weren't supposed to wear their hearts on their sleeves.

    I'm convinced that Mr. Darcy is NOT Arrogant and aloof, but takes awhile to get to know people, and warms up once he grows more comfortable with people. He admitted at Rosings to Lizzy and Col. Fitzwilliam to not having the ease of manner that most people have. He's Shy in a situation away from home & people he knows well!! Yes, he had a bit of prejudice regarding "the savage" company to be found around Netherfield, but he still kept visiting his friend Bingley there.

    Elizabeth lives! What a treat to meet with her after all these years. You have delighted P&P novel devotees by giving us another glimpse at the greatest portrayal of Elizabeth. That you can just find her inside so easily is mind blowing. I have enjoyed your other work over the years but do have to remind myself that you’re really Jennifer not Elizabeth. Maybe actors don’t like to hear that but such was your portrayal. Thanks for sharing this.

    I’m with Jennifer! I thought Mariah was so adorable the entire series. Her spinning around was great. Her reactions in the background at Rosings. All her excitement during speaking parts and how adorable when she announced that Col Fitzwilliam had been waiting for half an hour. But she acted the “make haste” brilliantly and it’s one of my favorite scenes in the series as well

    I enjoyed this so much! But it was a bit weird for me to see our beloved Lizzie wearing long blonde hair and modern clothes while she read the ending to us. I guess this just shows how deeply invested I was in Jennifer Ehle’s great portrayal of Lizzie in 1995 P&P. Jennifer will always be Lizzie to me.

    She delivered that famous line so beautifully in the series. And it’s funny that it is this side of her that Darcy really never sees. The closest to this side that he got to observe was when they were with Col Fitzwilliam.

    My God, what an unbelievable and generous gift.. It felt like watching numerous extra scenes of my most beloved movie, as if the BBC adaptation greatly expanded in my mind. I was born in a small Siberian city, and about 11 years old when the miniseries first aired on Russian TV. Will never forget how it felt - a mix of awe, admiration, surprise and excitement - Pride & Prejudice was like first love, which also showed me the fascinating world of English literature, culture and history. It made me a passionate fan of the English language, and through this greatly influenced some of my life and career choices. Art is such power!!! And P&P 1995 is a timeless piece of art, like a Da Vinci painting. 27 years later it’s still my favourite cinematic production, and Jennifer Ehle is still the most beautiful and talented actress that I have seen on screen🥰 It’s funny to think now, how in the 1990s we practically had no internet - only a slow dial-up connection, interrupting when someone in the family wanted to make a call. And in these conditions I was stubbornly looking for any piece of extra info on P&P on the web - an article, an interview, some fan art.. can’t believe there was even no youtube back then😄🤦‍♀ And now I’m a proud owner of the original DVD, can listen to dearest Jennifer Ehle read P&P to us in her car and even have the honour of thanking her directly in the comments. Incredible and amazing. I am sending million thanks, deepest gratitude and love to you, Jennifer. Your Lizzie Bennet will forever remain my huge inspiration. And also sending much love to every other soul who was as profoundly affected by this series as me - we must all be kindred spirits in some way❤🙏☺
