    Agree with the rabbits, prefer chicken over duck. Ducks are messy creatures and some people are allergic to the eggs. So before you get a laying bird for eggs, check that you can eat them. Had quaill, but messy birds, small bones and not very usefull to turn kitchen scraps into compost. Another reason to prefer chicken over duck. On needing water, for breeding they need to be in water and to raise them for meat you need fertile eggs (and a broody duck). I am on the fence over goat vs sheep for milk & meat, i'd want small breeds either way and small milk goat or sheep breeds are not a thing in Europe anymore. Means the option is to crossbreed towards your own animals. And in sheep i want a shedding/rooing coat i.e. soay in the mix. If you start a mostly closed breeding flock/herd know what system to use to keep your genetics as diverse as you can. Plenty wil tell you that linebreeding and even inbreding are just fine and no risk, but i do see probems with both fertility and health. Plus if you start on that track when you do still have access to fresh bloodlines you may end up in a corner genetics wise if you can't get outside livestock (no money, can't find your breed, ... ). You can look up a system known as spiral matings (daughters stay in mothers breeding group, best son moves on to the next one). There is a conservation breeding method with one unrelated male and 3-4 unrelated females, but more tricky. If you breed closer together, you can see inborn problems show up from recessive genes (needs both parents to have them and pass them on), so you may be eating a lot of your breeding results. And usually among those are the favorites of the children or they have other wanted traits. Breeding is not easy in that regard at least.

    • @storybrookefamilyfarm
      @storybrookefamilyfarm 21 час назад

      @hillockfarm8404 thanks for your comment! Breeding can become complicated after several years if new genetics aren't brought it from time to time. It can be fun to selectively breed in order to add in different traits or colors, while also creating more genetic diversity

    I hope all the best for you and Tracy, we all have fears of what our parents we will also have. Both my parents passed before the age of 65, I'm now 62 & my sister is 72 and I have a few thinks I'm working on. We all always want more, I only have 1 acre and our house and I have two sheds on it. I think every day of buying something bigger, but I'm the main person doing it all, plus being 62 make me think twice about it. My wife wants to move closer to her children and grand babies, I want to move close to the mountains. If we do move I would like something in the 5 to 10 acre for a few reasons, one is we may build a small retail shop for my wife's second hand shop. So I'm un sure as I'm getting older and no of our children want a small homestead they all want careers, I work from home with a decent income. I do hear land in Virginia , west Virginia is very cheap. Go onto land watch you can use filters to help look at what you want. Also FB and craigs list, some places especially un developed land they will self fiancé you. There was a guy on here that would show you properties (landmodo)

      @packy0462 I also love the mountains, especially in WV. For a while, we talked about moving to WV once the kids were all grown, but now that Tracy has a job she really enjoys, that's been taken off the table. I'm curious to see where this newest twist in our journey takes us, and how it unfolds for us. All these difficulties as of late have to be happening for some reason that we can't see yet

    Lindsay just tried planqil myself and couldn't tollerate it been on MTX for about 10 years now, prednisioine off and on for about 6 just to get my numbers back below saturation levels. But i recently went on can't recall whether its humira or enbrell wouldn't do bios because i can't trust the system and it's not like if you have a reaction you can just stop taking it tomorrow, also as a bio and w a blown out overdriven immune response I may develop a tolerance to it eventually. I think on top of RA I also have psoraiatic and my biggest triggers seem to be stress and processed foods, other than meds what seems to help best beyond a good nights rest is ginger and tumeric seem to help a bit EVOO the good stuff not the blended BS as well as garlic seems to get the vascular inflammation out first as well as garlic beets are good for blood pressure but not inflammation so much. And good omega fatties and decent proteins, which kinda sux because everything is adulterated somehow now. Like your store bought chicken they add stuff like calcium carb and whatnot to bloat it out w water so it weighs out better. really tragic whats been done to our food system.

    • @storybrookefamilyfarm
      @storybrookefamilyfarm 2 дня назад

      @horseblinderson4747 I appreciate the tips and advice! Part of why we raise most of our meat, and process it ourselves is so we can be sure of what's in it, and what isn't in it. In my opinion, food is very much a medicine that doesn't need altered.

    I realize this is sort of late to comment and you may already have a diagnosis, but… I think you may be developing Dupuyutren’s Contracture, also known as Viking’s Disease. It is much easier to treat when it is in its early form, as it is a thickening, contracture and fibrosis of the palmar fascia. It’s from overuse and having Ehlers Danlos, it kinda makes sense to me. Look it up and think on it. It may be better to bite the bullet and go to the doctor now rather than wait for it to worsen and not be fixable. It doesn’t go away on its own and is a progressive thickening and eventual pulling of the finger down into the palm. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as the old saying goes.

    1) always be yourself 2) dont post everyday, when you dont give a video 48 hours of breathing time, it confuses the algorithm in which one to promote, so the confusion of why one gets more views than the other could be from posting sooner than 48 hours. 3) Regardless of who you are or what you believe in, always be yourself. Im also ADHD and ASD so i've been the buillied 'weirdo' all my life. Im also a born again Christian, but i never expect anyone to have the same beliefs as me. I watch channels based on if i like the person. I like you, that's why i watch you. I dont care what you believe, if its the same as me or opposite of me. Im watching you because of you, not because of what / who you worship. its WAY to stressful to try to be something you're not. main thing tho is I think your channel will grow at a more rapid rate if you dont post more than every other day. i hope that helps. ps, you're awesome and thanks for being honest. it comforts me so much to meet other AUDhd-ers. Thanks for the tour! For your full sun area next year you might plant sweet potatoes or corn. Sweet potatoes do especially well in poor soil and hot conditions, but they do need a long growing season. Corn needs lots of nutrition but there are varieties that only need 100 days so they are easier to fit into a rotation or short season garden. On the next garden tour please let us know what growing zone you are in and how long your growing season is.

    • @storybrookefamilyfarm
      @storybrookefamilyfarm 8 дней назад

      @Rae-yv7md managing pain for me is a very tricky thing. My body, due to having POTs, doesn't handle narcotics well at all. They drop my blood pressure too much and make me feel incredibly ill. I meditate a lot and try to mind over matter most of it. Sometimes Ibuprofen will help a little, sometimes CBD oil will do a little too. I am lucky enough to live in a state that has now become fully legalized, so I've been looking into and exploring using "herb" to see how that helps, but with having POTs, it tends to cause a lot of dizziness and unpleasant side effects also, just not as bad as taking a painkiller.

    ❤ This sis my first time watching any of your videos, and as such, I know absolutely nothing you, your preferences in activities (aside from bow hunting and raising goats), or your plans for the invasives. I really appreciate that you've done as all intelligent humans have, and chose to see these briars and brambles as a windfall rather than a scourge. As such, I have a wonderful suggestion that might be a whimsical and easier alternative to digging fence post holes. I've recently seen a few videos of people using thin, freshly cut willow branches (aka switches) as growing fences. They simply put the cut end of the branch into the moist soil, at around 6 to 8 inches apart, and weave them together like a chain link fence or basket. Over time, the branches take root and grow into thicker and thicker fence walls. This would help to contain the berries to a designated area with a free (if you prune your own branches) and 100% eco-friendly alternative to metal and dead logs that would supply you with willow branches year after year. Since willow loves water, it also reduces soil erosion and excessive muddiness, which is always a bonus when tracking and hauling deer. It's also a great feed for goats and deer too!

      @Secret_Squirrel_Scottishgamer nothing spoken about in this video sounds like bipolar... I'm unaware of your background and credentials, or if you've ever researched the condition or not, but bipolar disorder is characterized by having alternating states of mania and severe depression. In the world of social media, everyone loves to toss that term around to describe anyone who changes their mind often, or has fluctuating energy levels, or has a bad day. If only society knew how damaging it is to just toss terms around all willy nilly, then maybe people would stop. But until then, no Dr. Secret Squirrel, nothing in this video points to a mental health diagnosis of bipolar disorder 1 or 2.

      @@storybrookefamilyfarm I said it was a bit like bi-polar not bi-polar itself... basically what i meant is one day you can feel great and the next feel depressed.. the day you feel great is so good you feel like your on top of the world the day your depressed well you know what I mean. The situation where you describe one moment being happy with where you are and then another moment not being happy where you are draws a few parallels with bi-polar. I don't need credentials to point this out it wasn't meant to offend but the way your kind of answering what I said sort of affirms my initial comment.

      🤦‍♀️ I'm not offended by any means, I was hoping to help provide more education to the general public on a serious mental illness that is oftentimes misunderstood. My knowledge of mental illnesses doesn't come from me having them, but from me actually researching them in order to help better take care of others in the world around me.

    We have a 12+ qt insta pot in my house and I love just throwing a huge lump of whatever have fat, cartilage, as well as bone in there and letting it roll for like fifteen minutes, but then letting it sit on the keep warm setting to bask in the pressure for an hour or two or until it just settles down. Really brings out the brothy home cooked ness as well as the collagen out. Also a trick my grandfather taught me as a kid. Bag up your meat or fish or whatever in a gallon or whatever zipper bag but then put like a cup of brine soy sauce whatever you're going to use anyway in to take up the extra air space. But then deep six the bag under a sink of water and that will not only force all the last air out but your meat is now submerged and it's not exposed to any air. Will not freezer burn.

      @horseblinderson4747 ill have to try out that freezer trick! We usually double bag all of our frozen meat. That keeps most stuff good for a few years before becoming freezer burnt

    Not a professional, consult someone else w more credentials and or do your own research. If you can build your traps they're the best for stabilizing your shoulders and therefore clavicle. I'm aware you might have trouble doing so seeing you've already got an injury+condition. I'm currently wanting to crush leg day with RA & a bum ankle and it's really putting back my improvements I've already made. It's also problematic that unless you already have insurance as well as a provider it's nearly impossible to get seen at all much less in a timely manner. Please be careful and try and take, if not slower try to adjust your chill and not sweat it.

    In Windows, find your run dialog box, then in it run Msconfig. That will bring up your start up programs. Those are the programs that get loaded on start up and whatnot. From there turn off some stuff, such as old redundant anti virus programs, and if you have an iphone you're going to want to disable I tunes and the bonjour program I dunno Apple uses their phone to smuggle like 3+ different start up programs on go your computer which than make your boot up take years, then they spy on you with them and try to sell you a MacBook at 3 times the cost, meanwhile you leave your computer on all the time which lets them spy on you all the time. I run a Linux desktop so being able to help w either apple or Windows I only know so much but definitely turn off your start up programs you don't need.

    Weeds in the veg garden are only those plants i can't feed the rabbits or put in the pot for myself. Animal wise i pretty much agree, quail are cute, but messy (more so then ducks even?), with fiddely little bones and the eggs gave me tummy upset. Chickens are good for eggs and turning a compostheap, just protect them well since everything loves chicken. Smaller animals and breeds are easier when you get older, are alone or small household and since they all need a friend (or 2, 3, ...) might as well get smaller animals so they'll feel safer from larger numbers and need the same space as half or less of the big breeds/livestock. I had bantam chickens, shetland and soay cross sheep and still raise some dwarf rex for meat (no land anymore for the rest at least for now). Never wanted the big breeds of chicken, sheep or rabbit due to not needing large amounts of meat at once or wanting to wrestle an animal weighing more then me, they are strong enough already when weighing 1/2 - 2/3 of me as adults.

    Hey! This is so true! For the last 7 years we were also in a suburban property of just over a quarter acre, and like you also grew an hell of a lot on that small block, we also had chooks, guinea pigs, quails and in 2022 I bought a Nigerian Dwarf doe in milk with her kids for home dairy.... We absolutely fell in love and started looking for land to have more goats lol. We are now on 10 acres, and it's lovely, but I would love to have more wooded area, I absolutely agree that trying to garden a larger area is not easier, especially when trying to be a full time mum of 6 kids, with 2 toddlers at home, starting again is very hard. But you are right, we don't need 100 apple trees 😂 thank you for reminding me!!! I look forward to watching more of your videos!

    So relatable. Im in Missouri and am just starting growing flowers. I’ve been to the farmer’s market 4 times and all in all, I’ve not made anything. The flowers are melted and wilted within the first 15 minutes, and even if they do stay decent looking, everyone walks past them and races towards ready-made food vendors. It brought me to tears today but I did make a contact to sell my flowers (hopefully) to a florist. I hope this works out and I hope you and Tracy find that true happiness again in all your next endeavors. ❤ love from Mo….Cia

      @thevagabondsageinthewoods even up here in Ohio, flower vendors always seem to struggle. I've watched countless customers walk by a beautiful set up of flowers just to point out and ooh and aah about their beauty, but rarely buy a thing. Food truck vendors and snack/junk food vendors seem to do the best at markets. I don't think most people know how to actually cook food that isn't wrapped in packaging with microwave instructions on the back lol
