Custome pull start on B&S Opposed Twin engine

What do you do if your battery runs dead in the middle of the woods? With this mod installed, you pull out the pull rope, start your engine, and go home or keep on ropin! I show you how to do this mod on an B%S opposed twin engine. i hope to post another video before 1/5/14. thanks for watching. don't forget to subscribe.
It’s been 9 years what are you working on today?
I am a ASE Master tech, I have a Brick nose f150 and a 68 mercury cougar, and i still have this old tractor! broke this transmission a few times by now. all still built with this gear jam locker.
@@restore56 that’s great brother! Keep on keeping on 👍🇺🇸
Nice I'mma do this with an old transaxle pulley, the starter is always sucking the battery dead.
It's gonna make my race mower a whole lot more reliable
Sold me on welding it up. Much easier
Not looking too ez there maybe change the title of this
Well, considering you don't need to fabricate or weld anything, the. Skill level is relatively low.
Hi !!! i hade to stop in a midle of the video to write a comm.....My fully respect for you kid......just because you hade hard time to put the pieces together , you didn t cut the video....yu let us see.....thank you verry much for that!!!
you need yoga,,training....
Easier just go weld it...
consider at this time i was in middle school, and did not have the funds or skills for a welder. this was a solution i found online, and posted about how i accomplished it. its a compromise.
Need suggestions for adding an extra ground to my grandpas 93 Sears Craftsman 18hp opposed twin. It’s a speed…not sure if it has a parasitic draw occurring or if the battery is draining faster due to starter age? The battery that manual called for was 230cca which I have sense replaced with a 275cca…should I return and get 300cca? Appreciate any feedback…and Thank you for the informative content. Your videos and workmanship has really evolved.
So it cranks ok when battery is charged, but battery died quickly, does it die after one or two starts or after several? Am I understanding the main issue correctly?
@@restore56 Trying to determine what would cause the battery to not charge correctly while on the mower? Before the motor fire up (not instantly but a few seconds of turning the key). About six months ago I began noticing that while trying to start the motor I felt the negative cable grounding bolt located on the frame was really warm (left side next to battery). Also appeared that the battery would need to be charged more frequently in order to get the motor fire up. As of late the motor will only spin but not actually fire up. Had the battery tested and it was dead…it was only two years old (Walmart 230 CCA). I read reviews stating their lawn tractor batteries have a short life span although I remember other lawn tractor batteries lasting longer ….so I bought another battery that is 275 CCA but have not yet installed it as I want to make sure I have wiring/ground concerns taken care of. I’m not entirely sure if the battery draining was caused by starter beginning wear out, ground issue or if the battery cca were not high enough thus straining the battery etc….apologies for be long winded response. Open to suggestions for adding an extra ground strap (size gauge, where to mount it etc) also any areas to inspect….Thanks again
How did it hold up?
Held up great! Ended up breaking the trans case. But the diff held and didn't cause the damage. I've since put some striker tires on it, and was pulling vines with the tractor. Ended up hitting hit a little to hard. I've rebuilt it with same axles and diff, with some bearings on the axle shafts this time.
@@restore56 wow that’s really good I’m definitely doing this
Brother you were pretty professional here....I would have smashed it off the table the 3rd or 4th time it wouldn't work lol good job, keep up learning and building
Did one of the main upgrades you should do is a pull start locking deck pulley and bolt it to the fly wheel cuz you got any reston56 on RUclips that shows how to do that
Yah but how will that off balance weight do at about 115 mph?
Probably not to well at all. It might just uninstall itself in about 13.762 seconds flat. I'll let ya know once I get wound up that high!
@@restore56 ;) thanks for the vid it was very helpful
Didn't anyone one else get the subtitles you need lmfao that shows how old my tractor was because that's what it had in his penis killed me still laughing 😂 🤣
Cuz that cool man
Let me know when it works
keep in mind the dangers ,i met a kid in the hospital physical re hab ,he cut his hand under a mower while dis loging a rock that stalled the thing. he was twelve at the time. the blade split hes hand all the way to his wrist bones. add that story to your safety lessons.
u need to put a cage over it with a hinge cuz it ll catch ur shirt
Would not be a bad idea, but typically leaning over the engine while it's running would be il-advised normally hahahhah
dang kid youre smarter than most adults ive ever known, most not all
We’re do you get a spider gear like that
Stole it from another transaxle. Note that there are two different sizes, I believe it is 16 tooth vs 13 tooth. The 13 is stronger, but difficult to line up properly.
Honestly, I'm in the case as of now, broke it with a little bit to hard of a clutch dump hahah. I could remake this video if I get up the motivation.
Ok thanks
NOT---SO EZ locker.... Lol 😂😆
Definitely should change the title.....lol
lol, I just welded my dif the "traditional way", it broke in like 2 minutes. (probably because I was using a stick welder with rods that were for mild steel. so I just welded all the spider gears together and it seems to be holding up. good idea with the added spider gear.
restore56, you can delete this comment if you want; I have a video coming out soon on it. and some serious testing. incomplete video sneak peek!: ruclips.net/video/tDu44sSTO-s/видео.html
How long did the welding stick together and what's the point of locking it up once i know why people do it I'll understand better will I mow the yard faster or what
@@Mike-su8si it will make your rear wheels spin at the same speed all the time so it wont give more torque to your outer wheel when making a turn and ut wont tear your grass up
@@botskifani22 alright thanks for telling me.
I know this is an old video but, why is it called EZ LOCK? didn't look very Ez to me!
Mainly the idea that you don't need specialty tools or major skills to do it. Mind you also this was long time ago and welders were a little less cheap and easy to get. Just gotta fiddle with it for a bit haha
Hey, screw that homework, you've got youtubers waiting. Yeah. Peace
"So u grab a big ass screw driver"😂
Has it ever broke on ya yet? Just curious because I want to rin this set up at 25mph
Nope! Still trucking. I run about 12 mph top, but it's holding up good. I've since put 23in stryker atv tires on, and those have been sweet, and no complaints from axle
@@restore56 awesome! Thanks for the video and response!
should of practiced a bit more before posting but yeah i'll stick with the welder..
Yeah man, i getcha. I was like 15 then, now i can weld good enuff to get the job done, i probably will weld my next one hahha
Can you explain a little more on why you dont use 2 to jam it
Due to the heavy duty version of the pearles used spider gears that have an odd number of teeth, and that makes it almost impossible to fit two extra in. If you use the even number spider gears, you can fit two
@@restore56 is it better to do one or the other
Just keeping it real I like that. You didn't sugar coat the video and make it look all easy breezy .👍👍
you have exactly what makes a master mechanic,PATIENCE,all good things come to those that wait, good job, never wanted to weld inside of a gear assembly, take a bow
I will though but mines a bit newer than that one and I'll clamp it to hold things together then start welding away and block other stuff with pieces of wood so weld splatters don't hit but first before welding anything take off all the rubber seals on the axles
@@Mike-su8si excellent, the spatters is what knocks out bearings and bushings and especially seals
@@strattuner I know
Good job fella....I watched this just done mine ....
you kids and your trans axles...
What can I say? Mud mowers are badass machines 😂
windshield wash antifreeze in the back tires for plow traction/
Not a bad idea!
Thanks for showing this, I'm not the best welder and don't want to mess up the transaxle. PS I never thought of using a nother spider gear.
Good job kid nice work, a little more prep and some editing ur on ur way to be something great keep it up brahhzzzz
Good video.. Thanks for sharing
The spider gears are a bitch
RIP Murray transaxle
You're a smart kid!!!! Thanks for sharing!
thanks! now that im older though, i would make some tube steel spacers to hold the pulley off the fly wheel, hard part would be balancing that well enough not to vibrate your socks off
Thanks for sharing but it looks hard
It's not as much difficult as it is just being patient with it, Id say it's a pretty good option for those who don't have access to a welder
You can swear if you want to. I don't mind. Thanx ! Oh, and I love it. Very realistic. Problems and all.
Just takes a little practice but is a great way to do it
That is a great idea. I always welded the spiders to the ends of the shaft but if you don't have a welder handy or whatever, I think this idea of yours is better... good video
Thanks! i cant take all the credit, i know doc sprocket did it with a peerless 920, but with some persistence, you can lock it with the heavier duty gears. i do plan to remake this video with clearer instructions and better views. and less breathing hahahah
forgot the two bolts underneath ??? lol...
Hahaha For the broken case? No I didn't forget those, while putting the top half on one of the bushings with the tab on it rotated and caused it to crack once it got in a mud hole hah
@@restore56 aww no brah huh lol.. that bites...hahahhahahq.. ima do what you said man on my tractor isa beast... "widebody"... I kill rear ends... but your locker idea looks really cool... ima do that because I've tried almost everything else and I break cases in half like cutting a sandwich with a knife lol... thanks for such a classy video man...its really gonna help me out tomaro.. thanks again brah.. i subd earlier...
Did this work? And why no video of it working? Couldn't you just move your ass to the side of seat where your tire spins
Yes this works, and is still working. In some situations shifting your weight is not sufficient to provide enuff traction, or if you want to show off and do some doughnuts In the sand
where you stopped is where you should have started. you know you blew the video so after you figure it out toss the old vid and go again. don't put out something that you already know is bad. people see all the bloopers and, as the Japanese put it, you 'lose face'. good try, but next time don't show all the 'not for prime time' stuff, ok?
i though this was okay when i posted it. i realize now its bad. i do not have the time resources or space to remake this video into something better
You removed the thrust washer? Not good....wear...wear...wear...BOOM!!!
You're an idiot you should have looked at all that stuff before he started fumble fucking around with your fingers it's called being a mechanic
oMG!!,
Yes? haha
I've been in a few transaxles myself and it's not always easy.
no its not easy at all with the i think it was 13 tooth spider gears. might be mistaken, but if you have the i think 16 tooth gears its alot eaiser! haha
AWESOME & GREAT + FAST + EASY SOLUTION...!!! PLEASE ALSO IGNORE THE RETARDS THAT DIDN'T THINK OF IT. BUT THEY ARE HERE WATCHING THE VIDEO! LMFAO !!!
