How f***ed are we if Trump wins? + Is Jeremy Corbyn MP forming a new party?
The Government’s rallying cry to the nation to help fix the NHS via a public consultation has not disappointed. In what is fast becoming the National Health Service’s very own Boaty McBoatface moment, Nish and Coco dissect the wild and weird policy suggestions flooding the website.
Then Jeremy Corbyn, former Labour Party leader and Independent MP for Islington North, joins to tell us how the left can make their voices heard in Parliament and whether a new leftwing political party could be on the horizon.
Later, with the US elections looming, co-host of our sister show Pod Save the World Tommy Vietor calls in to discuss why the Labour party is under fire for sending hundreds of staffers to c...

A key problem with the NHS isn't so much the money coming in, as how much of that money is going straight out again to consultants, private health companies, through PFI contracts, as well as the costs of running the vast bureaucracy required by the internal market. The NHS has been made a cash cow for shareholders. We need to end that - return to a publicly funded, publicly run National Health Service.

Can you please stop platforming this abscess of a man. He is the gruesome past of the left and has done more damage to the country than anyone on the left in history. He is the biggest reason we don’t have a truly left government now because he’s the poster boy for “the threat the left poses” when in reality left politics would be great for those country. By continuously platforming him you are preventing the UK from coming out from under the shadow of the asset stripper (Thatcher) and prolonging the neo-conservative plight. Just stop!

What happened in Australia was absolutely sickening. There are some really heartbreaking films that show the attitude of white colonialism. But WE did not do it and it was not done to people living there today. Our ancestors did an awful thing before we were even born and we are can only be accountable for OUR OWN actions and steps taken today. Shouting at King Charles that he stole their land is factually inaccurate and unhelpful. If you don’t want the royal family anymore than take steps to remove yourselves in a calm, logical and legal manner. In what other context do you start shouting in someone’s face about something their grandparents did to your grandparents?

Indigenous children were taken from their families, as part of government policy, and put into facilities started by the British government, well into the 1970s. And there have been instances even in the 2000s where, en masse, indigenous children were taken from their families. It’s not exactly in the distant past, and British Royal Assent is on every one of those policies.

How many generations of idealist politicians are going to rail against orthodoxy before they realise that the public almost always vote for the same old crap they always do. This will never change, especially now that so much of public opinion is force fed them through their phones by the vested interests who'll always win the battle at the ballot box. I love listening to Corbyn, he's the politician we need but will never have - the public won't vote for the best interest of the whole.

There are individuals and groups who dedicate their lives to studying the health and social care needs of patients, policies here and abroad, generating lots of ideas. Thank you for mentioning that it wasn’t only Australia that suffered genocide under British colonization. That amnesia is often present here in America. I find myself frustrated daily by history of any place in America only being acknowledged at the start of colonization. The belief that history only began when the white people arrived is still held by the majority. When I’ve brought this up to people, often I’m met with uncomfortable silences or a defense of God-given entitlement to this land. The belief that the genocide of Indigenous North Americans was ordained by God is still so strong here it makes me sick.

A short simplee scan of global history highlights many cases where personal and social profit for one group has led to the deliberate persecution or killing of large numbers of people in another cultural or ethnic group. In some cases this was the deliberate policy of a government while in others government officials ignored or colluded in those actions. I think there is a good arguement for a series of open and honest conversations about the historic and long-term lasting impacts of imperialism, colonialism, racism and slavery across the globe. Every one of the most prosperous nation on the Earth today, most of the middle-ranking nations too, played a part in the subjugation and exploitation of others at some point in history. We should understand better how the cultural, religious and social values of the past have shaped our world. We should recognise how they created the advantages and disadvantages of nations and peoples across the planet. We must recognise those "mental models' have not disappeared, continuing to influence political debates in this country and many regions of the world. This isn't a simple topic where laying blame is easy or worthwhile. Nonetheless, creating a future that addresses the problems of today and tomorrow begins with a conversation about our past.

I don't believe in these "legitimate concerns" I don't like this guest at all. "Where do you get the money from" . Using anecdotes of token migrants and minorities and respectable people like doctors who are supposedly anti migrant. The use of a scary big number without context of comparison to other similar nations numbers. The focus on changing language instead of the conversation itself. As if civility and whitewashing will make our nations treatment of these people any better. This was a performance with a clear goal. That was out of a rhetorical playbook step by step. It wasn't even argumentation. Deeply untrustworthy media performance by her. Please don't have her back on. I'm dead serious. This channel should be above this kind of obvious narrative trickery. Watch her space. She'll be selling more injustice yet I assure you. She repeatedly framed issues of living standards as issues of immigration even after that was established as the actual point. That's not legitimate concerns. That is deliberately misleading concerns. Immigrants are not responsible for lower standards of living or a lack of public funding.

Despite being a genuinely pleasant and reasonable man, it was this very character feature that makes him unsuited for leadership of a representative democracy like the UK.

On reparations. There needs to be reparations alongside decolonisation efforts in everything from healthcare outcomes to knowledge production (academia) to leadership roles to wealth inequalities, as well as national debt forgiveness etc. But we need an audit of exactly which private individuals profiteered from slavery and colonialism as well as money gathered by the state. South Dorset MP Richard Drax, for example, comes from a family who owned 30,000+ slaves over 200 years in Barbados, and he personally owns 2% of all land in Dorset (13,870 acres) with another 2,720 acres in Yorkshire. We shouldn't be making the public purse solely responsible for paying reparations when the vast majority of private citizens in the UK did not personally gain wealth from slavery, racialised segregation and other forms of colonist violence. There needs to be systematic clawing back of wealth from the Crown Estate and those with generational wealth rather than financing reparations solely through public debt. The fact that the state has historically already paid slave owners compensation at the time of abolition shows that the wealth of slavery sits largely with private individuals and generational wealth while the public purse was saddled with resulting national debt. That historical compensation could be clawed back through wealth taxation to finance reparations. A good place to start would be public education of the UK's role in slavery and other forms of colonisation to build consensus around recuperating wealth to fund reparations. For the past three or more decades the details of the transatlantic slave trade has been taught in state schools as mandatory curriculum, but broader education and criticism of the commonwealth and colonisation is largely absent. And if people of Mogg's generation are ignorant (wilfully or not) there needs to be a broader campaign of public education so the issue cannot be ignored.
