nicely done timmy..... you are a master of 80s tech
I found your channel in a very famous german magazine called "Der Spiegel". Entertaining, thank you!
Enjoyed the fox hunt video!
Thank ya!
Less talk and more play
Well, there is a wonderful story on Tim and his brothers in one of the biggest German magazines. Or maybe the story ist more about the "silent US", that majority of land between the Eastcoast and the Westcoast, that vast land full of nothing and a few Houses made of cardboard. And also a bit about Indiana. I also had to decide between ZX Spectrum and C64 when I was young, and i celebrated that article and the portraited people a lot - as well AS i did that youtube-channel, i could elaborate in most its content from experienced. Enjoy the fame.
Thanks for watching. Yes, that story is indeed interesting, isn't it? We ought to take a look at a ZX Spectrum here on 3OTD, I don't believe we've ever looked at that one. -Tim
High voltage even if it's unplugged! As a14y old in High School I made an apprenticeship in a TV repair shop and the first thing they told me was not to touch that connection to the screen and when my teacher visited me in that work shop I showed an open TV to him, unplugged it and pointed at that connection and said to him that he should never touch it...⚡⚡⚡I said that touching it!))) lesson learned!!
I played LORD when I was a young boy and now almost 30 years later I still find myself coming back to visit this wonderful fantasy world.
Nice work. Do you happen to know where I could get a speaker for a 1802 monitor? Different
Sold my Jupiter 8 for one of these and a DX7. Regretted it ever since. ☹️
This was my families first computer… it had very little games for it. So my dad bought a Commodore 64 not long after. And we had that till the Nintendo and an early pc came in.

21:57 I like how the truck outside has bass but the synth is going through 4" speakers.
Great sounding synth, but incredibly cheaply made. The plastic on these just rubs off. Needless to say, too that there are a couple of cheaper, modern versions of it now. Get one if you must, but you're mostly wasting your time. Something like an Alpha Juno will murder it.
LOL the JX has double the oscillators/envelopes/LFOs of the Alpha. I guess it depends if you're more into pad sounds or hoover sounds.
@@RaquelFoster A classic mistake. The Alpha has phenomenal range. Put it this way. I had both, hence my comment on the JX-8P. I sold that thing, and kept the Juno. If you think all it can do is hoovers, you're dead wrong. The Alpha has 6 voices. If you are unable to make pads with that, that's on you. Thing is, it can do so much more.
@ Well I'll trust you on that. I'm just suspicious cuz I really don't like the What the??? hoover sounds. That got old real fast like the DJ air horn noise. And I mean come on how do you not make better pads on a JX when it's got double the oscillators! But I haven't played around with both of them. Honestly I mostly just think those VFD displays are pretty gangster/retro. But even then... I'm not a fan of the brittle early-80s plastic with a questionable silver paint job. It's charming on a 606/303, but the reason I don't have a Super JX is because I don't need a big silver plastic synth that weighs more than anything but a CS-80 and has a paint job that rubs off as easy as a 303. But I've been close to getting an Alpha mostly because it's pretty low-profile and would make a good master keyboard. But I'd probably want to send it to that dude who rebuilds the aftertouch...
@@RaquelFoster You are literally talking about ONE patch.
???
Yes I had this set when I was 9. First thing I built was the crystal radio. Probably still relative for introducing youth to electronics.
A choke is actually needed on a quad with coax and since its a lightweight antenna I made a sleeve choak ,1:1 for it which corrected the distorted pattern good . that antenna is a balanced antenna and naturally coax is unbalanced . This is important and a good way to check it is if its pointing right at the station you want to talk to , if not it has a distorted pattern and the coax is Radiating Along with the antenna The choke stops that.
totally my world!
Mfj had great run with amateur radio gear, good or bad, an we have seen with Heathkit, Browning, an not let us forget ( be honest), how many started out with radio shack parts an equipment, this stands the same as its getting harder to find good technicians to work on the equipment, as to look at how the amateur radio has not gained many new hams, to the hobby, or new have been chased off by SAD HAMS.
Congratulações belíssima antena realmente ficou muito boa além de excelente recepção e transmissão 73 pw8gts bons dxs
I have an audiomaster suitcase turntable, and i have NO idea why it won't turn. Any suggestions? Lol.
15:49 😂
I enjoyed the video, thanks. Columbus North is an excellent venue, our kids are students there. Pleased that the Hamfest has moved to the larger space. I recently acquired two G3 iMacs, an original 233 MHz Bondi Blue and a 400 MHz Indigo Blue. I’m going to see if I can put at least one of them to work in the ham shack for a bit of an old school vibe, but I might be limited to something as simple as using it for a large date/time clock display in the corner. I’m not sure if there is any other ham radio software for it. - Stan de WE3ACR
Question. Did the payphone report it's revenue through the tones it would get from the central office and thereby determine the amount to cross reference in the coin box? I saw a manual for a protel model and it had a key sequence that would tell the amount of money on the coin box and allow it to be reset to zero after a new coin box was inserted.
It was nice the way manufacturers included the schematic either inside the unit or in the owner's manual packet. They did this with TV's, also.
I was at the retro gaming convention in Portland and I saw the TI game where you fly in a sort of ... trench? and for the life of me I cant find the name of that game now. I saw the arcade (just found it called space encounters) I think the game was based on and now I cant find the TI game on multipole lists and videos.
I guess you mean PARSEC, that was considered TIs best game back then, at least in Germany. But compared to Commodore the games were simpler and there was less choice. The TI was more mathematical. But I think both were using BASIC as computer language, maybe later as well EXTENDED BASIC. My TI had 32kb and later with an extension module+16kb. Years later my father found a huge extension box on sale for it but that came way too late, a bit like a turbo for a Ford T model
Btw Dudes, I found the link to your channel here in Spain in the German article about Tim in Spiegel Online.
I loved to play LORD, BRE, KnK, TW2002. Also I found this video while looking for a game I can't remember the name of from the Late 90s/Early 00s, where you navigate a field of Space Trash and assemble a ship and upgrade it, while fighting off enemies, dunno if you could help me find it?
WOWWWW!!!! I cannot believe those devices John Houghtaling Invented were even mentioned in this video!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I'm studying these devices. They were called Magic Fingers, and the device operated, when a quarter was inserted into the coin box. There was a piece of equipment attached to the hotel bed box spring, and when you inserted a quarter into the machinecoin box, you had fifteen minute of tingling relaxation, and ease. I was not born into the 90s, unfortunately, but SERIOUSLY, I have always wanted to see one of those Magic Fingers beds. It's such a shame that John Houghtaling's invention fell out of favor. I mean, SERIOUSLY!! Those wonderful devices could have been maintained or even updated, and weary guests who had traveled on the roads all day could still have the relaxation that they use to back in the day. You'd lie in the bed, insert a quarter, turn out the light, and relax, and during the fifteen minutes, you'd either just lie there and enjoy the vibrations, until the session ended and then go to sleep, or you could at the end of the fifteen minutes, take another quarter, insert it, and repeat the cycle again. But these devices were one of a kind, and I think it's shame that they've gone away. THANK YOU TO THE INVENTOR, JOHN JOSEPH HOUGHTALING!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO PEOPLES' RELAXATION! You will be forever missed, and while I never got to see one of your devices, I wish that I could have, as I KNOW with my health issues, it would have helped me substantially. Now days, hotel rooms are cold unpleasant, and depressing places that I've been too many times to count, and to be honest, I avoid them if I can. I never knew the days when hotel rooms were actually pleasant!
The Tx81z is the rack version of the DX11, without the pitch envelope!!!!!’nothing to do with the DX7…please check 😬
This is the dumbest comment ever. He said DX7 because it's FM. And he said it was actually more like a DX100 because it's 4-op. These guys aren't exactly synth nerds.
@@RaquelFoster😂😂😂I was trying to be polite with my comment 😂😂😂
@@CngRAMBattery LOL sorry. I mean you're not wrong. On a different day I would've made the same comment as you but a lot more condescending/sarcastic.
You need to ask yourself why your bearings are so inconsistent.
Don't center the compass on your location on the map, put the edge of the compass on your location and draw your line down the side of the compass - use the side as a straight edge.
Since the total tape required is 112” why not suggest you initially cut an 11’ of tape before cutting the separate pieces? This would eliminate the risk of getting cut if the cheap tape lock fails causing a cut on your fingers, arms or face? If the tape is long enough for two antennas cut the second one, roll it and tape it for later.
Good demo of the speed difference. There's two primary reasons C64 BASIC is so slow here:- 1) It's an 'interpreted' language 2) The BASIC ROM uses 'general purpose' routines (because of lack of memory). If you were to do the same comparison but instead, fill the screen with a single character (using 40x24 BASIC POKEs) then you'll see the difference much smaller (still very large of course). The more ROM routines BASIC calls, the slower will be the comparison with hand-written assembly.
I have one my stepdad bought new that's unused, finding values anywhere from 50 - 200... What's realistic? I'm in Minnetonka Minnesota and will be putting it on Craigslist
Hey guys it's nice project , i have one question , can i transmit 50 watts on this yagi ?
I have done so many times with no issues, with it clamped onto a short pole for a mast. -KB9SNL
Thanx for your quick answer ,i wish you a good luck in your life and your hobby ..
Hi, I found my Prolinea 575e in the trash. I disassembled it and restored it. I upgraded it to P200, 3dfx Voodoo1, SB AWE32, 8GB IBM HD, network card and Win98se. Normally not officially possible, as P120 was the max. I had to do some soldering (clock-IC). I also upgraded the on-board VGA CyrusLogic (2MB) RAM and system cache (256k). I also installed a DVD drive. Everything works perfectly 👍
Cool stuff. They just don't make guys like you anymore! Betting you had chemistry in High school, too. ✊🏼📺 💛

The reason Fearchar keeps remarrying Violet is that he seems to be the only one with enough charm! Roughly 50% of the time, he gets kicked out early on with the message "RETURNING TO THE MUNDANE WORLD..."--but he just logs back on and everything's fine.👍 Great video!
This was the computer I had when I was a kid in the early to mid '80s. I had a lot of fun programming basic on it and I remember playing blasto and and tombstone City. Are the games like tunnels of Doom, hunt the wampus, and alpiner were a lot of fun. I remember backing up the games and saving them on cassette tape. For the time it was a rather outstanding quality computer.
Years ago I had a 6 element version. Just as good as a 12 element yagi. but shorter. Might be important where you live.
Only a couple months late this got recommended to me lol; Thanks for coming out! Would love to chitchat about tech stuff with you all!

I'm astonished that the cartridge could still function. Those old Rochelle salt crystal things had a bad habit of soaking up humidity and deteriorating to power..
We still have pay phones in Australia they're provided under a law called the universal service obligation so Telstra our phone company has to provide them to everyone the uso so we still have pay phones in Australia and now Telstra have made it so we don't have to pay for local or national calls and we can also call to pay phones because every Telstra payphone in Australia now has their own phone number
Just found one at an estate sale.. crazy to think it'll be 100 in a year!
