  • Justin has picked up another payphone...and he has this one programmed and functional! The phone is a Nortel Millennium from the 1990s, and you'll get to see what's inside, as well as some of the tricks Justin has done to get it to behave the way he wants!

Who would have thought that a payphone could be interesting.....and that someone would have an active development project to support this particular model. I enjoyed this one, thanks for sharing!

Finally, someone figured all this out. I did find Hart's Millennium Manager source file's on Gethub. I've been looking for this information, 8 years now. I have 4 of these phones. 6 years ago I hooked up a 2amp 24v supply and wired it to my home phone line and it worked. I didn't know anything about the Millennium Manager but I was skeptical at first. I know payphones are a managed utility so I👍 played with it on and off for a week. when i left it on and connected, 2 days later it displayed OUT OF SERVICE. So I packed it up and its been stored for about 6 years. I keep checking the web for morinformation and I'm happy to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Following the Nortel payphone history, finding support for these didn't look good. Now I'm going to have to learn how to set this up. Running this Millennium Manager is going to be a challenge. Wish me luck, I'll need it! Great video and good job Justin. I was thinking about selling these but now I'll try to get these going. Just Awesome! 👍👍

Hi there, and thanks for the comment! Howard is pretty good about responding to requests for help on GitHub, he helped me out quite a bit. I think he's actually got a version working now that runs on Windows too, if that makes things easier for you. Your phones likely started displaying OUT OF SERVICE because they were not able to connect to a server. You can configure how many failed connection attempts can be made before the phone takes itself out of service. mm-manager by default sets this to 0, or unlimited, so in theory, once you program a phone with it, it will continue to function without further interactions with a server. Good luck to you, I hope you are able to get your phones up and going! -Justin
