We were based on Long Island, the company that bought us moved all of the company's assets/production to Nogales Mexico where the purchasing company had "its" production. The product produced cost more to make in Mexico than on Long Island as the product failure rates went through the roof exceeding 15% where as it once was well under 1%.

My father used to work for John Deere. Now even I won't buy a John Deere. I hate to say this but John Deere used Yanmar Engines in some smaller machines, and they worked well. That's what I'd buy.

Later, the lawsuits began and John Deere losing and costing the company money. What is the CEOs solution? Move the factories to Mexico, so he can continue to personally make multimillions. Eventually, when things start to get bad enough, the CEO will lose his job. I've seen this same type scenario multiple times play out, when a leader gets too greedy.

So there is now a reason why you would want any piece of JD equipment stripped of its JD electronics and fitted with a standard PC that can take over the bits that have to have a computer and the rest returned to something more simple and fundamental. Like a lever or a straight forward switch. I have a feeling that 2 years with one of JD's machine and a couple of good reverse engineering techs would have tractors and combines and all the gear in a state where the electronics is a much cheaper and easy spares situation, where the computer OS is stick a DVD in the drive and put it back to default and make it so it lasts 20 years. You could have a generic control hardware system where you could buy the same hardware for every piece of machinery you own and have half a dozen of them as spares. Better still why not use a Raspberry Pi machine to do it all?

Trump should encourage states to stop state purchases of John Deere for equipment, if the CEO wants to be so wealthy and move the plant to Mexico. State contracts all across this nation has made John Deere excel above other brands.

I am wondering how the U.S farmers will function if John Deere decides to drop the U.S market, and sell into the expanding BRICS market instead. Trump has absolutely no idea about how economics works. The only people that tariffs hurt are those applying them. You only have to look at Europe to see how much damage that their (suicide) tariffs have caused to the European economy and has barely made a scratch to Russia or China, in fact it has helped them to form a stronger BRICS.
