Suzy's Crafts
Добавлен 28 авг 2018
Hello, I'm Suzy and I love doing découpage and other crafts. I created this channel to share how to do those crafts with you, and I really hope you enjoy my videos and get something good from them.
A little about me... I live in Auckland, New Zealand. I'm a mother of two grown up boys and two cats. I grew up surrounded by beautiful antique furnishings, as my mother is an Antique Dealer. I think my love of these beautiful antique items transfers over into my crafts, which often have a vintage or antique aesthetic.
I live with a chronic illness, which can be unpredictable. I don't know how my body will behave day to day. But crafting is something that relaxes me and I can do it whenever I'm feeling up to it! It is a wonderful thing to be creative and make beautiful things!
Other hobbies include, gardening and DIY, when I'm up to it!
Anyway, let's get those creative juices flowing...

Check out my vegetable Patch & how I garden with a bad back and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome 2023
A tour of my vegetable garden where I talk about how I created it to help me garden without pain while living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
I realised after filming that I didn't talk as much as I meant to about how the garden works for me with back problems and body pain. Sometimes when talking on the fly without a script I miss things 😊. The main point to help with back problems is the hight of the beds but also the width. These beds are 1200mm long x 600mm wide x 1000mm high. The hight is perfect for me as it is waist hight and the width not being too wide means I don't have to lean over the bed or reach out towards things. That is a big help too. Basically just having everything within ...

How to decoupage a jar from scratch with paper napkins
❤ Very pretty! I wouldn't put any spoil directly into contact with this lovely pot, I would instead just slip a plant in with its plastic container instead, even if the pot is sealed. Looks very springtime! ❤🌷🪻
Absolutely fantastic. I love it. Ireland. Where is your website for Rice paper???
Thank you! I don't have a website anymore but you could search Stamperia papers or search découpage rice paper on Google.
You are an excellent teacher. Thank you for sharing your skill. You inspired me to make one.
Thank you so much, you're very kind. I hope you enjoy making your own pot.
Thanks for the video. Your voice is quite soft and goes in/out in terms of volume. Just an fyi.
Thanks for the FYI. I have struggled with a quiet voice all my life. I haven't made a video in a while but have purchased a microphone for future videos. Hopefully that will help as I was just relying on my cell phone mic when I made this video.
have you a recipe for chalk paint please
Hi, sorry no I don't know how to make chalk paint.
❤so pretty! I’ve never tried the rice paper.
Thank you. Its worth giving a try. Very easy to use. 😊
Beautifully done ❤
Thank you.
Where did you get those lovely napkins?
www.napkins-wimmel.us they have a huge range and ship internationally.
I enjoyed your video. May I ask why you say not to use the baking paper more than once? Others say the same but I reuse it all the time and have no problems. And I use both front and back sides. So I'm just trying to understand if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks!
Just do what works for you. I find it gets crinkly from the heat which and makes it hard to get a smooth finish. Also can get wax on it that transfers.
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you 😍
Love the bags!
Thank you. 🥰
Love this. Ill be giving this a try.❤
Great to hear! 🥰
How did you transfer the napkin print to I assume a Laserjet printer in order to use the rice paper? Lovely idea. MountainAngel
Hi, no need, you can buy the rice paper already printed. That's what I do. Search "stamperia" for some pretty papers.
Perfect.please what kind is your paint?my acrylicis not so fluid😢
Hello! I usually use chalk paint but acrylics are fine too. Perhaps just try a different brand.
@@suzyscrafts thank you♥️♥️♥️♥️
Do you put the sticky part of the cling wrap onto the napkin to smooth it out
Hi, both sides of the cling wrap are the same here. Do you have a brand with a sticky side? I wouldn't put anything sticky on it.
Very beautiful ❤️
Thank you.
Suzy, I'm having problems with the saucer. Should I seal it , paint it then decoupage it or no decoupage but seal it. I've sealed it with mod podge, painted, napkins, sealed and it wasn't waterproof. Ideas😢
Hi, i don't usually bother with saucers. Mod podge wouldn't be strong enough to seal it. If you plan to put live plants with water. I think you would need to use an oil based varnish (will turn yellow over time) or a boat varnish. Best if putting a live plant in your pot to keep it in a plastic pot as a liner or seal the inside with one of the above mentioned.
Beautiful! Love your garden! I hope your back is feeling better and that you can do another video soon... Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks for watching 🥰
Thanks for the video, first time with decoupage. I have a question: Why don't you use a scissor to cut the napkin? 🤔
Good question. I find if I cut the napkin rather than tearing it I end up being able to see the hard cut lines once I'm finished. Torn edges seem to disappear into the painted surface more seamlessly.
@@suzyscrafts Good tip, thank you so much 😀
Really nice!!
Thank you!
To separate the layers, put a little glue between your index finger and thumb and press the corner of the napkin. The layers will separate easily.
Good advice.
Like that idea, mod podge isn't cheap.
So true, I love a budget saver.
I am in wonder of how smooth it looks. I cannot even see the napkin edges at all. Beautiful work!
Oh you made me smile! 😃 Thank you.
Beautiful
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this awesome technique. ❤
You're so welcome. Thank you for watching.
I love this idea, thnk you so much 💗
Great to hear! Thanks for watching.
Thankyou❤❤
You're welcome 😊
Beautiful! Can you decopauge on ceramic plates?
Hi, yes that should work fine. If they are highly glazed make sure you sand them a little first.
Fantastic, thankyou. Here on Matamata there's not much to choose from.🎉❤❤
No problem. Happy to hear from a fellow Kiwi 😊. I think there are a couple of places in nz that send single napkins. Just Google "decoupage napkins nz". Or if you're near a King's Plant Barn or Plamers its worth looking there.
Where do you get such lovely napkins. This looks fantastic I'm going to give it a go.❤❤
Hi, I often find them at my local garden centre but for an online option you can buy from a company called Wimmel Napkins. They ship internationally and have the most extensive range you'll ever see!
Lovely!
Thank you!
So very pretty… thank you for this great idea…
Thank you. 🥰
Because terracotta pots are so porous, do you need to use a special sealant before applying the decoupage and PVA glue-water mixture?
I don't do that myself, but you could seal the pot with varnish first if you wanted to.
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Love this, very pretty and I agree what wonderful gift bags ❤very lucky person who receives either one of these as a gift ❤️ could you tell me what paints you used…are they just acrylic or multi surface and do you seal with the decoupage glue when you have painted before you put the spray varnish on? Many thanks x
Hello and thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed my video. The paints are just acrylic water based paints. From memory I used the decoupage glue over the paper before painting, then sprayed everything with a water based spray varnish. Hopefully I understood your question okay?! 😊
@@suzyscraftsthank you
You are doing so well explaining everything, thank you
Thank you 😊. It's sweet of you to say.
It’s so beautiful
Thank you 🥰
Thank you 🥰
Hello from Portugal ❤ I just found your crafting site and really enjoyed watching you make so maybe beautiful things😍. You explained decoupage better than anyone else has, and have given me the courage to try this for the first time. Thank you Suzy, please keep up the wonderful videos. May GOD bless you, and keep you healthy 🙏
Hello and thank you for your beautiful message. I really appreciate it, and I'm so happy to hear you've enjoyed my videos and will give découpage a go. I have more videos planned, when time permits. At the moment life is a bit busy, but I will get back to recording when I can. I do hope you enjoy doing découpage as much as I do. 🥰💖🌷🌸
@suzyscrafts 😉 You are very inspirational , thank you for your reply and kindness. I look forward to sharing my future experiences with decoupage, and for your future videos 👍😍 take care.
You are very sweet. Thank you. 💖🌸🌷
It's beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
Good noite , very well done, lonely bags
Thank you.
I will definitely give this a try, it looks like a lot of fun and will make really cute Christmas/Birthday gifts, thanks for sharing !
That's great! I'm sure you will enjoy doing this.
Lovely project and so cute😊 Thank you for sharing 🎉 What kind of glue are you using?
Thank you! Here's the link to my glue ruclips.net/video/MIVBNYScG8I/видео.html
Great for me! Question: If I wanted to add a bit of gloss to this glue, do you have any ideas for that?
Hi, you can add a tablespoon of water based gloss varnish to give a gloss effect.
This is lovely! Spring is here in Colorado, and I will get a pot to decorate.
Great! I'm sure your pot will turn out great.
Hi, my first time exploring decoupage on flower pots. May I ask if there is any particular type of paper napkins for decoupage or just regular paper napkins? Thank you very much for any advice 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Hello, just ordinary paper napkins are fine. I don't recommend the very cheap ones from dollar stores, as sometimes the colours run.
This garden is beautiful! I just found your chanel and have watched several videos. You work is soo inspiring. ❤thank you so much for sharing. I hope your feeling well and blessed today
Thank you so much. All your comments have brought a smile to my face today. 😊
Stunning*
Thank you!
My desk, my drawers, my ahed doors! Im definitely excited about the possibilities!
😁 So good!
If you use the same jar everytime you could mark the jar at the 1 cup of glue level so as to have less mess😊
Yes, I think that's a great idea.
So beautiful😍😍! I love this idea. Ive tried painting terracotta in The past but didnt varnish inside and out so my paint bubbled. hopefully this way the artwork is protected from the moisture wicking properties of the terracotta.
Some people even varnish the whole pot inside and out before starting for extra protection.
@@suzyscrafts im wondering about the varnish, if theres a spacific kind that works best
I tend to use water based varnish. Simply because it doesn't yellow over time.
@@suzyscrafts thank you! Ive looked a bit at home depot but didnt find the right thing so ill try again now that i have a better idea. I hope the sun is shining on your beautiful garden today🧡😊💐
Thank you. I'm sure you'll find something at home depot.
