Hi there! I’m Scott and I’m a fix-it guy. I live a fix-it life! Welcome to my channel where I document and share all the fixes I run into in my regular, everyday life and offer instruction on how you might do it too. Whether it is a computer problem, a home appliance issue, a household maintenance chore or repair, a gardening problem or challenge, or maybe an automotive or mechanical difficulty, I like to try and solve the problem myself. I also have fun trying and learning new skills. I take on projects knowing I’ll learn something new, and I always gain an appreciation for other people who are talented in that specific field. Heck, this whole channel started because I thought it would be interesting to learn something about making and editing videos. Please subscribe and enjoy the fun of fixing.

Fedora Hat Repair / Complete Rebuild
I was scared to death to reshape my fedora. Thank you so much for showing how easy it can be done!
I'm pleased it was of help 🤠
.
Always buy Japan ( TOTO) brand when it comes to electronics or devices. They’re always 100% durable reliable. Japan cars also! ❤
Why remove the inlet valve?
The valve wasn't shutting off and therefore need to be replaced.
Thanks for posting! This was a great video with simple instructions. I know I need to repaint the porch of my 100+ year old house, but it's intimidating! Can you tell me what that cute little scraper is that you used? We have many boards by the front stairs that need some attention. (They're definitely cupped, but I'm hoping they don't need to be replaced and can do with a simple scrape/filler/prime.) Can you also confirm that the DAP Acrylic Latex Caulk is paintable? Again, thanks so much!
I've had that little scraper for 30 yrs; there's no brand name on it. I'm sure you could fine something like it at the hardware or paint store. Yes, the DAP caulk I used is paintable. Just look at the labels carefully when you purchase because they also make some that are not, so don't get them confused. You can do it!
It looks as if the structure is being supported solely by the perimeter footing. That tells me that the builder did a piss poor job of compacting the site prior to framing.
thanks. identifying parts is greatly appreciated
Glad it helped
Thank you! Super helpful!
Are the holes standard on all toilets?
Unfortunately, no.
Some close-ups would have been better for those of us who have never done this before.
Thanks sir ❤
Most welcome.
Great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it.
What state is this house in?
This guy is adorable.
😊
Handsome man...
😏
What does “hot lead” mean? Positive or negative? Thank you
The hot lead is the positive. It's the one that'll shock you if you touch it.
Whats the name of them blocks?
They are pier blocks, or concrete piers.
You care so brave to get in there.
I tightened my fuel cap and the light has now turned off sweet
Walter White did a Good Job, Painting that Porch!
If you wore a ballcap it would cover up your bald spot.
It's a must when outdoors!
Same thing, light went on after I filled gas tank, just one day after I got my car serviced with a hefty bill. Went back to the mechanic, and they couldn't turn it off. Found this video and got a new gas cap. The light went off about 24 hours later. Guess the air pressure had to adjust. Mahalo nui loa from Aiea, Hawaii.
Gilmour has a lifetime warranty. I just got mine replaced. I tried fixing my old one before trashing.
Wow, he didn't even wear a suit...He is soo brave because a snake, bugs or animals could have been down there... Meanwhile I would run from a spider or roach...I love him already!!! Real man here, definitely marriage material ❤😄
What I've learned in all my years of building repair is that both snakes and spiders don't live where there is no food source. No mice or rats means no snakes and no bugs means no spiders.
Good find. Those things happen, the wire clamp. When you take it back apart maybe a good idea to place a few drops of oil on the bearings. I keep our 40+ year old fans going with just a few drops of oil that otherwise would render them not functionable and to most folks, trash.
Good tip!
Hehehe, it has been another 3 years, how is the porch holding up? The "Great" at the end almost made me choke on my coffee. Thank you for this video. It is still helpful all these years later. I can't wait to tackle my little porch. :)
The porch is looking great! I painted it again and posted this little update: ruclips.net/user/shortsLbyhUZgiN5I?feature=share Best of success with yours!
How is it your flooring looks so clean, yet it's been there long enough for the earth to have settled so much?
Well, it's just a high quality ceramic tile which is one of the most durable flooring materials. There are a couple small chips where I've dropped something heavy, but the color and pattern hide those pretty well.
@@ItsFixable LOL I meant under your house. I've got sagging floors to fix, and my joists are old looking and have insulation hanging down, old wiring, etc.
Oh, I see. The house was built in 1975; it never had insulation under there, though the rest of the structure does. The ground movent was due to changes in ckay soil's moisture after years of drought, and an issue with neighbor's property flooding mine when a large pipe burst. But this clay earth has always expanded and then contracted with the wet and dry seasons. Back in '75 they didn't do all the site preparation that is common in developments around hear today. They just scraped it flat and started building.
🎉 subbed. Thumbs up. You're clutch my man. Thank you. This method works for newer models also that have keyless start. Just press the button 3 times for 1 second like you did and then turn on the car. Worked for 2023 Chevy equinox
Thanks for the sub!
You skipped over the part I needed to see and that was the washers and spacers. You assumed I would know that part. Wrong! That was why I watched your video.
I'm sorry I disappointed you 😔.
Thanks for the Video. Had a power outage here last week and afterwards, for some reason, the Damper Control wasn't working, so while the Feezer was staying Frozen the Fridge was staying between 45F-53F... Was able to get into "Service Mode" to run various tests (using the instructions in the Technical Diagram Paperwork from underneath Fridge by the Coils from a Plastic Pouch...). The Damper Control was reporting Open or Closed (and I could "command" it to switch) but it was always staying closed... Also didn't make any noise during the "switch". Took a plastic Bread Bag Clip to wedge into the Damper Door Opening to keep it OPEN temporarily and that was able to finally quickly bring the Temperature down in the Fridge. Eventually decided to see if I could remove the damper control to test if the Motor's Continuity was good/bad... While loosening it from the Tabs I think because the door had been open that the Motor (Door Tab) had been able to rotate back around. So when the Bread Bag Clip slipped/fell out, during my removal attempt, the door actually stayed open and cycled again. It does make some obvious noise now (and looking back that has been "normal" for a while, but it didn't do that during the earlier testing (because the Tab/Motor wasn't "under load"?)... As mentioned in the video, maybe the extra loud noise is because the motor is on its way out? It is about 16 years old/original to the Fridge (2008)... So I'm think it might just be best to just swap it out. If nothing else it might be quieter and hopefully won't "fail" randomly because of a loss of a power loss again. If "that one" fails I suppose I can old onto the original as a "backup"...
Interesting experience. Good for you for sticking with it! If that's the original damper mechanism, it has lasted way longer than most. can't lose for replacing it at this point.
@@ItsFixable Agreed. Have a replacement at the ready. Running some tests with some Wireless Temp sensors to "dial in" the Temp make sure I'm around 35-38F "everywhere". Hopefully no 32F or 41F cold/hot spots...
I bought a heavy duty one by Orbit. Super simple design. Just molded plastic. Lasted a single season with well water pressure. No way to fix it! I guess the lesson is: don't bother spending good money on these things 😂 Fun video!
Thank you 🙏🏾!!! The noise was giving me headaches every day.
I'm pleased you found the video useful!
I feel like I'm watching the Bob Ross of chainsaw maintenance. Lots of great information. Lots of happy little cutting edges.
Will the check engine light go away eventually? I didn’t tighten my gas cap?
Provided everything is functioning correctly, most manufacturers will reset automatically after a certain number of start and run cycles.
@@ItsFixableI hope so. Because Audi wants to charge me $210 + labor for a diagnostic
What bout a push start car?
very useful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Is this the Boya BY-WM2G
Very helpful bu it drives me crazy when someone uses an adjustable/ crescent wrench in the wrong orientation. Sorry, but I'm a little anal when it comes to proper tool use.😢
Sometimes it's the only way it fits. Too, what makes it worse, I'm left handed.
Great video ! Your helper looks a lot like mine .......
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the video! Quick question: Is it best practices to install the J57 ABOVE the post like this? I was under the impression that while it might work for connections, it’s better to install it below the post when it’s supporting something. A minor point, but was just curious.
Because my pier blocks were not properly centered under the beam, I chose to install the J57's on top. Otherwise connecting them to the piers would have been quite impossible. Ultimately, it shouldn't really matter which way they are installed; they function the same no mater the orientation.
I started driving in the freeway this morning and after 10 minutes my check engine light turn on out of no where.
im struggling with the brim shape of my fedora, its gone flat. any way i could put it to that style shape?
Well, if its a soft felt (rollable) you'll need to get a bottle of hat stiffener. spray the brim, allow it to dry, then steam and shape it. You may need to do this a couple times to build body into the felt. The steam drives the stiffener into the fabric. Too, they make hat forms for shaping brims, but you can use a string wrapped under the hat and tied on top to slightly pull the brim up as it dries.
@@ItsFixable Thanks a lot! i will give this a go and see how it turns out 🤠👍
Nice video How much you spend doing this.
I don't remember exactly now, but less than $1000.
How did you know how many turns to stop at, I wish you lived close to fort worth Texas so you could help me 😊
I knew how much the floor needed to be lifted, measured existing height from pier to beam, added the 7/16" (or whatever was needed), and turned until that measurement was reached. Then I checked levels along each beam and made minor adastments as necessary.
Regarding the chainsaw, great video! However on the botanical side, that is not yucca, never has been. That is sisal that has fibers.
Thanks; and actually the plant is a blue glow agave, and that correction was made note of in the video description.
In Germany the water connection is behind an drywallin 90% of installations..thats an serious problem. Also powerplugs next to watersources are not often to find because of safetyrules. After my Japan travel I want a TOTO😂
You need a portable air compressor to blow all that dust out of them coils from back to front and then from front to back a few times.
That's too messy an aproach for my house, but I'v seen other do that.
Great video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I have pillows by Scott Living? And it says dry clean only. I have dried clean them at home many times but because I’m such a picking cleaning mom, I want to try to wash them in the washer. I’m glad I found your video. I think I’ll try the washer and follow your instructions. Thank you so much. 🙏🏼
I hope it works for you!
Amazing, just what I needed! Thanks so much
So glad!
Looks great
Thanks!
