How to Extend, Shorten, and Retime Music PERFECTLY in DaVinci Resolve Using Fairlight
This tutorial shows how to retime your music perfectly without having to zoom in to microseconds of sample rates and matching waveforms together. Using BPM techniques, cutting and splicing is significantly easier to adjust your music to get the length that you want if your track doesn't fit naturally.

Is davinci resolve enough to podcast or do i need also riverside ? Most of the time I will be doing only solo podcast
@@DanielSantos-o3k Resolve is all you need for the editing side. For recording, specifically with remote podcasts, you don’t need Riverside. Riverside does have several convenient features, but nothing you can’t do with free software like OBS, NDI, vdo.ninja, and other tools.
Great video! You broke everything down in a very digestible way and I learned a lot. I found your video looking for a new way to process audio for podcasts, and I came away learning so much more! Keep up the great work!

Thank you, Tim, for creating such a detailed and incredibly helpful tutorial! I did notice one discrepancy, though. When I typed 'base,' the only option that appeared was 'media storage.' It seems that 'clip' is no longer available as an option. Just wanted to share this in case it helps others! For reference, I’m using DaVinci Resolve 19
Ah, yes, this changed in Resolve 19. That shortcut is now just called "Auto Align Clips" because they added functionality to that option. Thanks for mentioning that!
Hopefully this reaches anyone still having the problem. In OBS, I clicked on the settings for my Cam, then clicked on Configure Video, a small white window will appear, click on the Camera Control tab, and the Exposure was set at -5 and a checked box. Click the box and uncheck and it completely got rid of the waves without downloading anything. Hope this helps! Happy Streaming!
@@LordeHartshorn For Logitech or other webcams with similar control, this typically sets the shutter speed at 1/60 I believe, so it can solve the issue if you’re experiencing flickering with LEDs that have a 60hz refresh rate, but anything that varies, especially on LED dimmers, that speed can change causing the flickering problem.
Subscribed. . . Great info. I really need to learn. Thank you PS: Please adj. your mic settings. Your deep voice is difficult to understand at times. Maybe a little De-Esser to clean up the vibration. Changes as you turn away from mic, so be careful not to reduce mic sensitivity.
Thank you! And yeah, I suck at EQing. I’ve gotten better at it lately, but some of the older videos definitely suffer from bad EQ.

@@ballonist208 Thank you so much for the kind words! Hoping to continue making a lot more videos really soon!
Since you helped us out let me help you out. 25+ year audio engineer here! Your voice is lacking brightness in the 2000-3500 ish kHz range and if you were to add an EQ to your vocals you can boost those and you'll sound a million times better! Your microphone sounds a bit muddy and adding an EQ to brighten that range will make your mic sound perfect!
@@Mista808 Yeah, I suck at EQing. LOL! I’m still learning how to get it where I want it without destroying my voice, but I appreciate the feedback!
@@CameraTim Your microphone doesn't sound bad by any means, but a quick addition of an EQ and you'll be Golden 1 Credit Union! Your microphone is only lacking in the 2000-3.5 kHz range. Don't boost higher than 4k or your S's will sound a bit too harsh. It can be easily corrected with a deEsser but I don't wanna throw a whole vocal chain at you. It's not necessary!
@@CameraTim Any clue why it's saying "OBS does not appear to be located in this folder" when I try installing this shader to my PC? Thing is.. I know for 100% fact that my OBS is installed to this C: Program Files/OBS/BIN/64bit folder yet it's giving me the business!
@@Mista808 My guess would be that the OBS folder should actually be: obs-studio. On my PC, this is the file path to the obs64.exe: C:\Program Files\obs-studio\bin\64bit So probably when installing the shader, that's the exact file path the installer is expecting.
@@CameraTim That's exactly where mine is located. I don't have it down in my task bar because I've been lazy and I manually go to this same folder anytime I stream. obs64.exe is IN THAT FOLDER and I'm staring right at it. I can open it and use OBS. Everything regarding install is in that same folder. Yet this damn plugin pretends like it's not. I'm going mad! Saw someone else with this same issue and of course nobody posted any resolution. Ugg.. The one time I finally set some time in my day to finally start grabbing some plugins for OBS and of course this barricade blocks the easy path! Always! Thanks.. I guess I'm screwed or will have to completely uninstall/reinstall (which is the LAST thing) I'm trying to do!
Do you have one for circle? I don’t like the rectangle or square look.
So I don't have one for a circle directly, but you can use the circle-mask-filter shader before you add the gradient shader, and that will basically give you the result you're looking for. It is slightly janky because the gradient wasn't designed for circles, so the corner radius doesn't really react perfectly, but it does work.
@@CameraTim Thanks man. Cool video for sure. I'm looking for a circle template. I don't want too much BG showing.
@@outbreak_monkey Makes sense, let me know if you have any issues with the circle-mask-filter solution!
For any one that plans to edit a podcast, when calling the edits of frames you might realise that command v might not work, rather right click and select paste with attributes
@@TLCMEDIA1 I believe that shortcut is Alt/Option+V. What part are you referring to when you say “calling the edits of frames”?
@ I meant after copying the settings. When I tried pasting the settings, At least I was doing the command + V and that was not pasting the edits but I was able to get it using the right click and then choosing paste attributes. Just thought I’d share in case someone might be in the same situation as I was.
@ Ah, right. Yeah, pasting attributes is the Alt/Option+V shortcut. Can definitely be confusing because you copy the settings with the normal Ctrl/Cmd+C shortcut.
Hi! Great video! I am an aspiring podcast video editor. May I please ask if you have sources wherein I could download videos with multiple camera angles? I would love to practice on these assets. Thanks! 🙂🙂

relink to new files is greyed out when you trim the clips.
Is there a different scenario you're running into than what's described at 10:25?
I guess it creates the .drt for that reason.
@@shmirdonkin Yeah, it gets confusing when it inexplicably grays out the option, but then you go to Entire Project, switch which Used Media option you’re using, go back to the Timeline menu, and now the Relink option isn’t grayed out. My guess is the devs have no idea this is a thing.

I have been trying to find a way without cutting the clips apart for days. Thanks
@@timgrezlik746 It’s hard to say exactly without looking at your node tree, but you’ll likely need to change your Polygon mode to Subtract so it cuts out anything inside of it but leaves the rest of it in tact.

@@dylankuzmick3122 Thankyouverymuch and stuff!
Thank you so much, was struggling with this. Do you perhaps have a link where it shows how to set it up with channel points/ bits to change the color and where you can set it up to change when someone subs?
@@ericthevirusttv Yeah, there are quite a few softwares that’ll do it. I don’t necessarily have a direct link to this exact thing, although there probably is a video on it. The two softwares I’d recommend for this would either be SAMMI or Streamer.bot. Nutty, Andilippi, and Falinere have tons of tutorials on these tools, so I would check out one of them that mentions the Move plugin from Exeldro as that’s going to be the best way to trigger the color change, then one about If Statements, where you can set a condition for a command to change to a certain color based on whatever condition you want.
NDI was too heavy and the quality was too low when it came to routing audio between computers. VoiceMeeter was great for that - I can use the same headset and mic on my gaming and streaming/work computers. I came across this video because I've spent several hours trying to simply get a webcam feed worth using. It's a ROG Eye S, which is a really good camera, but it can only get about 10fps out of it when the camera can do 60.
@@legen_dary42 For routing audio only, I’d take a look at the Teleport plugin. That might give you a better result. If you’re also struggling with the camera feed, a couple suggestions would be to use ethernet if you’re routing to different computers, that’s basically an essential. And then you can also try the Teleport plugin if you’re going from OBS to OBS, or try the Screen Capture NDI app instead of the Dedicated NDI Output. Not 100% sure if that’s what you’re using, but for some reason, the Dedicated NDI Output filter is for some reason the heaviest processing-wise out of all the options. If you can provide more details on what you’re trying to do with the camera feed specifically, I may have more suggestions.
Or go to premiere and do it in a second automatically . Not hater , love both :D
@@allpfilms6319 So even when I was using Premiere/Audition, I still used this method because I found myself spending more time getting the Remix feature to work and use the parts of the songs I wanted than just doing it manually. What if you have sequential clips (e.g. Act 1, Act 2...) from multiple cameras? Do you label all clips from each camera CAM1, CAM2, etc, or do you label just the first sequential clip from each camera (so that the Sync Bin contains only one clip from each camera)? IOW, can the Sync function assemble multiple sequential clips from each camera into a correctly ordered multi-cam timeline?
@@QuicksilverSG That really depends on your preferred workflow. I would personally label all specific camera clips the same, and if I need to create different sections, I just use different folders and different sync bin for each folder group. Or in your scenario, you could still label them all the same, do the sync bin once, then separate each section accordingly and make multiple multicam clips.
@@CameraTim Thanks. @5:26 (Select Multicam in the top middle pane on the Edit page), when I do this, the middle pane remains black unless I mouse over the active timeline in the Master bin. This is dysfunctional, however, as it jogs rapidly through the timeline, depending on exactly where the mouse is positioned over the timeline icon. Likewise, if I mouse over one of the clip icons, it flips out of Multicam view and jogs through that clip. All this is useless. Is there a way to turn off the mouseover mode and just display the multicam view when I select it?
@@QuicksilverSGAre you potentially referring to the program and source viewer bug where the source window disappears when the inspector window is open while the timeline is selected on a single display view? Or is this an issue with the timecode of the multicam clip itself based on where the timeline is referencing the source timecode of the multicam clip? Just want to be sure I understand your issue.
@@CameraTim I'm on the Edit page, as displayed @5:29 above. The Inspector window is closed. The timeline's timecode accurately shows where the playhead is currently located. I have a multicam timeline with three synced camera clips and one synced audio track on the timeline. Everything seems to work properly except the top center window stays black when I select Multicam in the drop down menu below that window. The only time anything displays in the top center window is when I mouse over one of the Master bin icons, which is apparently some kind of display mode I don't know how to turn off.
@@QuicksilverSG When you click the three dots in the top right corner of the source window, do you have Live Media Preview checked?
Thank you so much for this video! Super helpful! I have one question. In your remote recording example, if you had only two people talking, would it make sense, to create a separate clip with the split screen view, give that your multicam no.3 and then switch between the two full screen views and the split by just hitting the number? How would that go? 🙂
@@jariluoma118 That would work perfectly fine! You’d just make your third layer in the multicam clip either a Compound or Fusion clip and that would work.
@@CameraTim Thanks a lot! I'll have to google how to make a compound clip, or what a compound clip is, but I'll figure it out.
@@jariluoma118 It’s like a Nested clip. It’s essentially grouping multiple layers into a single layer that “compound” into a single clip. So anything you do to the Compound clip affects the whole image, but you can always open the Compound clip and edit what’s inside of it, and those changes will also be reflected on your normal timeline. To make a compound clip, you just highlight all of the clips that you want to put into a compound clip, then right click, and then hit New Compound Clip.

How can you make a podcast styled video using Davinci Resolve, with a 2-screen view but, when you do the interview using Zoom Meeting to record it, it leaves you a file at the end of recording with both the screens already put on 1 file together already?
@@monster0033 So I actually covered this in my ResolveCon presentation, but basically in your multicam clip, you can duplicate the layers, then you can use Fusion on each clip and add a Transform node to position them accordingly. So that way, even though you’re using the same clip, you can still cut it in the timeline as if they were different clips.
@CameraTim thanks, I wish Zoom would send 2 video files for each camera is on the meeting at that time that you chat with a person. It would make it easier in editing.
@@monster0033 Yeah, it’s really annoying to work with. That’s one of the very few things I actually preferred Microsoft Teams for because I had access to an NDI feature which allowed me to pull every video source individually (although audio wasn’t separate at the time I was using it, not sure what state it’s in now because it’s been a few years). However, I do believe Zoom actually works with NDI now, so I would look into that because apparently you can pull individual video and audio ISOs now. That would solve your problem.

As a new user of Davinci Resolve 19, I think you did the best I've seen in explaining how to create the multicam sequence and edit, however, it's still too complicated and especially if you don't use this a lot. Too many options and for one reason or other if you forget that source has to be set to multicam and program to dual monitor. If one forgets these subtle settings, you hit a brick wall. A far easier product for doing Multicam is made by FutureVideo, called Multi-View HD Pro 2, which makes multicam so much more intuitive than any of the timeline editing programs. I often first make my multicam clips with Multi-View HD, and then if needed I will import into my NLE. For previewing, and doing live replay it's great.

what do you think the speed copy by Davinic Resolve Clone Tool vs ShotPut Pro?
@@kampucheapicture855 So the copying is really less dependent on the software and more from your hard drive speed and checksum method. I haven’t tried ShotCut Pro’s (assuming you meant ShotCut) method, so I can’t really speak directly to that unfortunately.
@@CameraTim I have tested with Davinci Resolve Clone tools it takes so long for offloading files as I noticed.

@@kampucheapicture855 What I would do in this instance is do a copy with the MD5 checksum in both Resolve and ShotCut and time both to see the duration. Ensuring you’re doing the test on the same footage and transferring to the same location.
Could you provide the effect that you made
@@ramyesam8501 When my life eventually slows down enough to when I can actually put up a product page, I plan on making it available (and a little more refined). I hope to make that sometime in the near future, but definitely can’t promise anything.
Everything I have to know about??? I was looking for how to deal with proxies when I want to export my video. I didn't come across it. but I did get close ups of your face. 😡
I guess I might’ve mentioned it in a different longer video, but any time you’re using proxies, Resolve will automatically export with the source media regardless of whether proxies are enabled/disabled. The only exceptions are if you specifically enable using proxies on export in the Deliver page, or if you have them enabled while using Saver nodes or using the source media for any sort of data in Fusion.
This was my next big stop and WOW!! But I have a question! I have 3 camera angles. I loaded them into a sync multicamera clip thing and started building a series of edits from that combined object. Everything was great UNTIL: Camera 2 ended short of the others. My Camera split files. So I went back into the multi file timeline and appended the next clip to the end of Camera 2. But when I go back to the timeline, that addition doesn't show up. How can I refresh the multi in the edit timeline to reflect the change? Can I? I hope I'm making sense. Basically the source mulit file was altered but I don't know how to apply that altered file to the edit timeline. (sorry those terms may be wrong?) I had to delete it and do all my camera switches over again.
@@80211Denver It’s awesome to see you’re making the rounds on the videos! Haha! As far as the question goes, that’s puzzling because auto-updating is exactly what the multicam clips are supposed to do. That’s why I do all the color grading inside of the multicam clip instead of the real timeline. The only reason I could see the auto-update not working is if you were using Render Cache. If Render Cache is on, it might be saving the state of the multicam clip in the normal timeline and not recognizing that something has changed inside of the multicam clip because no effects or edits were made in the normal timeline. That’s my best guess though. The only other possibility would be if you were referencing the wrong multicam clip, but that doesn’t sound like it would be your issue.
I''m JUST getting started and media management is the hardest bit for me at this point. I have SO MUCH from my biking trip and I just want to break it down into smaller chunks that I can chew on. This helped SO MUCH. Just make a folder with all my crashes that i can play with? YES. I dunno how I found this but, yay.
That’s amazing to hear! Anytime I can make somewhat complex or confusing concepts more simple is a win in my book.
@@CameraTim It was a huge aha moment after watching so many other videos. Right subject, right time. There can be more than one timeline? Oh Editing is non destructive to the source.. Oh storage patterns in the folder structure -stuff you might take for granted just came together in this thing... first time I felt like I "got it"
@@80211Denver I’m so glad I could create that aha moment. There are so many tools out there that do amazing things that are heavily underutilized.
Tim, still going through the video and it's very good. I have a situation I'm in... I purchased a ton of B-Roll from Storyblocks for a music video that I shot in S-Cinetone which is essentially Rec.709 (Scene). The Storyblocks footage is roughly 12 different cameras (some I need to color grade a bit) and I have no clue what cameras they used? What would you suggest doing? I really appreciate any help you can provide. 🙏
@@OfficeofthePacific So if you don’t know the cameras they used, it’s going to be a little difficult to guess what it is if you’re using a log profile. You can always try and see which ones look the most accurate and get at least somewhat close. If they’re Rec.709 footage though, that’s a lot easier of course. In terms of matching, one thing I didn’t mention in this video because DCTLs are a Studio-only feature, but Tetra DCTLs are amazing because they provide clean red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and magenta adjustments for each color channel. So utilizing a Vectorscope to see what colors need to go which direction when comparing the footage is the most ideal. The key thing is you want to make sure you’re putting all the footage in the same color space (most likely DaVinci Wide Gamut unless you have a separate preferred working space), that way the tool performs uniformly across all the footage, regardless of log or 709 profile. That would be at least a solid start.
Why are you saying it's 4k ... When the Livestream is not outputing 4k😂😂😂
The webcam capture is 4K, so the capture itself contains 4x the pixel information that a 1080p capture would, leading to a sharper and more accurate webcam image when scaled down to 1080p. That’s likely all I was referring to. (If there’s a specific point in the video you mean, let me know)
doesnt work with chromakey!
@@kotya_playing Did you apply the filter before or after the key filter?
@@CameraTim i am gently taking back my question, like nothing happened
@@kotya_playing I’m definitely not replying to this comment. 😉

This is the best video on NDI. Really well done man!
@@alexandercato7400 Thank you so much!
Can someone help me out? I'm editing a podcast horizontaly but when I change to vertical resolution so I can make clips of it at the moment I want to resize the videos they crop, is there any solution to this issue?
@@Prodigy1309 What I would look at first would probably be in your Project Settings > Image Scaling window. Depending on what kind of cropping you’re talking about, you’ll likely want to change your scaling options to Scale Image to Fit or Fill. If that doesn’t solve the issue, let me know.
