Shop Therapy

Many of us get some much needed therapy from being out in our shops building stuff. This is what this channel is about. Creating things is my therapy!
Fusion 360: Jars With Threaded Lids (For 3D Printing)
In this video I show you my method for making a basic jar in Fusion 360, with a threaded lid, for the purpose of 3D printing.
I am using an educational licensed Fusion 360, but I believe the free version can do everything I show in this video.
I made this video in one take, and it was unrehearsed, so excuse the messiness of it all. Hopefully, if I have more time to devote to making videos, I will be able to make more polished tutorials.
If you have questions, please leave me a comment
Have a suggestion for another video!? let me know down below!

Fusion 360 to 3D Print: American Flag
Просмотров 32814 часов назад
I’m new to making tutorials, so bear with me here! Audio kind of sucks, and I’m a little scatter brained at times - lol. This wasn’t rehearsed and I did it in one take. Eeek In this video I will show you how I design my flags for 3d printing. They are printed flat, heated in the oven, and formed using a mold. There is a short video added at the end of the Fusion360 tutorial showing how I form t...

This works great with simple models, but doesn’t always work great with large or complex models. If you have questions or suggestions, please let me know in the comments!
Recreate an STL file in Fusion 360
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.День назад
Someone wanted to make changes to this STL, and was wondering if I could do it. Sometimes you can convert STLs in Fusion360 easily and edit them. However, that doesn't always work, as in the case of this file. In this video I'm giving you a glimpse on how I approach this task. This is a one-take, unscripted video, so sorry for how unorganized and scatter brained it is. Hopefully you can pick up...
Fusion 360: Pattern on a Curved Surface

I don't usually make tutorials like this, so excuse the messiness of it all. I did this in one take, and did very light editing! However, this should get you the tips and tricks you need to create your own patterns on curved surfaces!

EASY FIX: Out-of-focus portraits | Photoshop Tutorial
I’m self taught and have been using fusion for years now and this opened up a whole new world for me that I never knew about. I’ve been doing it the hard way for sure. Thanks so much for sharing, love the raw format because it makes it easy to follow along. Great job!
it's my first time seeing this method and it's not the way i expect but i think it's cool! one more tool in the tool box.
#tessethings wow HALLELUYAH PRAISE THE LORD
Thank you, very easy to understand!
Instead of saving as new bodies, save as a new component for each color and then it is much easier to color.....
What would be the difference, in regards to coloring them?
@@ShopTherapy623 By using components and exporting the step file to import into Bambu Studio, I reduce 1 white, 23 red and 58 black bodies in 3 components that can be colored all at once. I cannot figure out how to attach a picture to show it....
@@ogresden-de1xr ah so add all similar colors into one component? That makes sense. I usually import directly into Bambu as a 3MF - fairly easy to color as long as you label.
Well done, Thank you for sharing.
Watched a few now and this is an excellent video for your first one. Look forward to seeing more.👍
Just what i needed!
My mesh is getting converted to a surface. Everything inside is hollow. Do you know why that might be happening and how to fix it?
I would need more information on the steps and options you chose when trying to convert it
@@ShopTherapy623 It is an stl file. I did generate face groups and then prismatic. Initially I thought everything got converted perfectly. But when I started working on it, I realised that it was hollow from inside. I glanced at the browser and it showed the "surface" icon for it. I can't seem to understand how it got converted into a surface instead of a body.
@@samar5838 if it’s a complicated or large file, prismatic may not work, which is probably why you’re getting the hollow surface body. You can try “stitching it” under the surface tab. Otherwise you’ll probably have to use the Faceted approach
Thanks for the great video
NOTE You must have the PAID version of Fusion 360 for this to work. Disabled in Hobby/Personal version!!
If you have to use the "Faceted" feature, you can use the "Combine Face Groups" (under Prepare) to reduce the number of faces. This will take a lot of time if you have a complex model but you can clean it up to be more managable.
The option that you use Prismatic in Fusion 360 is not possible for me to use, since my version of this software is for private use (free), therefore it is not available. Do you know how I can convert the STL to solids with Fusion 360 and have them look as you explain in this video? Thank you.
very well explained, with examples about how processes and tools work.
Thanks! I hope it was easy to follow!
any tips for free users? prismatic only available for paid subscriber
You have to use the “faceted” option. It creates a solid body but is messy.
Great tutorial, I was looking for something like this, what is your experience with a tool intended for threading? Is it more problematic?
It is more problematic, but I have had good luck with those as well. The trick is to add more allowance between the threads. I usually shoot for 0.25mm, but that also depends on the size of the printed piece. The larger the jar/lid the less likely these threads work well. I can make a tutorial on that as well if you would like!
When you try to measure the thickness, you can use the measure tool, and in the Results section you can click on the XYZ delta part and it'll give you the distance along your X,Y, and Z, For the thickness of the base that's just the Z, and for the thickness of the walls you can do sqrt(x^2+y^2) .
Can you do that to the mesh, even though you can’t select any surfaces or edges?
@@ShopTherapy623 you can select the edges on the mesh with the measure tool, and as long as the surfaces match your coordinate plane then the x y z values will line up.
Thank you for this! I just got a scanner and have been trying to figure out a better way to go from mesh to cad and this is super helpful.
That's so much better than what I've done before. I was missing the "Generate Face Groups" step, and it just made the body with ALL the faces and edges, more than the faceted version. This is a great tip. Thank you!
Prismatic is not available on free edition
Yes, unfortunately. I didn’t know that when making the video, or I would have stated it. I’ve only ever used the paid version.
It is in the education version.
very good tutorial thanks !
Is this a new feature or a paid feature. I feel like I spent hours trying to make this work on multiple occasions and only ever got to the faceted bodies.
I wasn’t aware when I made the video - “prismatic” is a paid feature. 😢😢😢
@@ShopTherapy623 you may want to add that in the video notes.
Fantastic. Thanks!
Very helpful. Going to try it out tonight! Thanks!
ruclips.net/video/lhL48dcOodM/видео.html need to do the inside fillet first and then the external fillet in order to achieve the correct 50mm filet you were after.
Yes! I figured that out after the video! That’s one of the problems with doing an unplanned video!
@@ShopTherapy623 Thanks for sharing regardless. I like watching fusion projects and thinking about how I would do things differently. Fun little brain challenge.
I see that gridfinity plugin button!
Heck yeah!
What do you mean by Prismatic is not going to work? Did it error out?
Yes it errored.
Perfect timing for this. You covered a few areas I been wondered how you do in Fusion. Thanks!
Regarding the beval at the end, You needed to do the inside to 50 first then do the outside to 50.
Yes!! I realized that after the fact! Thanks for pointing that out! There are a few things I'd do differently now that the video is over! lol
Just a thought, if you extrude to a new component, then when your testing one will be transparent so you may get a more accurate look, you could also try changing the appearance off-cause.
Im not sure I'm following this comment. Do you mean when I was trying to extrude the hood down to the base/bowl?
thanks for this.
Thanks for being kind. Lol. The audio is pretty bad and I’m a bit scatter brained. However this wasn’t rehearsed, and I did it in one take!
I think it was fine for an unplanned video. I think some people may find it helpful to see the thought process behind what you are doing rather than just showing people the correct tool every time. Its also good for people to realise you might not always get it right the first time. I enjoyed it either way. I would not have thought to use the surface tool.
VeryTop.Parabens👏. Um dia chego aí...Perfect
Please increase the audio, you're too hard to hear. Thx!
Thanks for the feedback! I just recorded this with my laptop microphone. If I continue to do more "how-to" videos, I will think about getting some better audio!
at 36% volume (using headphones) I can hear it without any issues.
Seems to sound fine for me on my phone. Neat seeing this, thanks for sharing!
One enhancement would be lengthen the holder to except bits with flat on one end, Phillips on the other. Definitely would carry that on a key chain for in a pinch needs.
I have that already on Makerworld! Just search for Dfreshkremer
Dirty Stove in the U.S.A😂😉
That cuz we can afford food to cook
How did it become so soft?
It was heated
But, um… couldn’t you just print it that way in the 1st place?
Have you ever done 3d.printing?
why waste extra filament and supports when you can just do that after.. also takes less time in the long run
I have a flag that prints upright as well. This is faster, better quality, less risky, and uses less filament.
🦅🇺🇸
Cool, made Russia
I have a Russian flag on my profile on Makerworld. Just search for Dfreshkremer
Okay
Does it burn well?
The flag shouldn't be marketed. You disgrace the country.
The American flag is put on everything, even on underwear. I haven't seen a flag treated like a merch more than the American flag
@@aziz6227It is marketed as toilet paper by others! That makes me totaly fine with this very respectful marketing.
Lol
@josk5389 that's just horrible. And yeah, I agree. This 3d flag is totally fine
hella good idea
how many of those drawers are actually in use
Polly just that one 😂😂
where'd you get the cabinet?
Looks like a lot of wasted space for seven drill bits
Im not crying you are…😢 its beautiful
You can streamline this a bit by creating a tangent plane on the front of the cylinder and then draw a circle on it and use the pipe tool to create the torus shape as a cut extrusion. Then use the array tool set to feature to replicate that.
Yeah there are many ways to create your tool to cut the cylinder. The main thing I was trying to show was creating planes 18 degrees apart (360/18 = 20) so you can use those to "stagger" your pattern around the cylinder. This was an "off the cuff" tutorial, so it's not very polished! Thanks for the comment!
So are you printing the drawers as well? Any reference for STL file or something to try this out? When I do similar prints in ABS I always get swelling in between the middle most layer of drawers. Makes the fit awkward…
This system is called "Gridfinity". There's a whole community evolved around it. I am not printing the drawers. I'm just printing the grid and the bins!
Great design! Seen simple hexagon planter box designs around for awhile, but often they feel unfinished. Your additional corner pieces and top plate, dramatically improve the looks and structure of the planter!
Thank you so much! This will be my second year planting in it and it's holding up well! This year I plan to add some sealant to the outside to bring back some of it's color!
If you use it again within the 24 hours or so, that works. Let it sit for a month or so and the nozzle will still be clogged.
