New bass and trying out Weed Wacker Strings

In this video i try to bump my strings with a high C string but immeadietly notice a problem. The strings i am changing to are Thomastik Präzision strings. I play through a Krivo magnetic double bass pickup plugged into a Shadow RB Pro preamp where i mix it with a slap ...

    is it that the holes on the bridge are beveled or is it the holes are to big for the posts? I have the same problem "B" String rattle. If this is such a problem what's it with Gretsch not fixing the problem?

    • @samuelzetterman
      @samuelzetterman Год назад

      The rocking bar bridge intensionally has holes that are larger than the posts and beveled so that it can rock back and forth when you use the bigsby, hence the name. (Worth mentioning, the posts on my guitar are just sligthly narrower which eliminates some of the rocking but to solve that you can just use the included base.) I think the buzz comes from the generally loose fitting construction of the cheap t.o.m. style bridges on their budget models. Thus giving you a reason to buy a higher end model.

    • @viperBSG
      @viperBSG Год назад

      @@samuelzetterman thank you yeah the Saddles are to loose they need a spring on each screw at least. But I refuse to play that game just buy a better bridge for as cheap as you can and be done with it. Play Guitar not work on it or have problems all the time. I tried for a while with just cramming cut ur pieces of rubber and junk in there to keep it still but after a while you just end up bending the retainer wire and it just rattles again. the string/pickup experiments with upright bass is such a crazy expensive journey! I'll save you some money and tell you that your bumped steels sound much better than bumped guts. Would love to hear a demo with the pickup plugged directly into the computer. I used a combo of Stringcharger magnetic pickup with K&K Rockabilly system live and loved the sound and the volume without worrying about feedback. But I settled on Presto/Eurosonic strings

    • @samuelzetterman

      You should push the whole bridge forward a little. If your bridge is pinned you might need to pull the pins out to push it forward.

    • @konjunto2477

      @@samuelzetterman i didn't know one could do that. I thought pinned meant you couldn't move it

    • @samuelzetterman
      @samuelzetterman 2 года назад

      @@konjunto2477 a lot of people dont like the pins and pull them out annyway, most gretsch users prefer double sided tape. There are two types of pinned bridges the real "pinned" bridges have two metal pins that can just be pulled out with plyers, and the "secured" where the threaded rods that hold the bridge go all the way through the wood base, those can be screwed out a bit with a small allen key.

      @samuelzetterman Thanks for the informative & helpful video. I know it's 2 years ago now - and I've never worked on pinned bridge, but if anyone reads this, MAKE SURE to CHECK if there is paint/top coat finish around the pins. If there is, use an xacto knife to cut a separation around the pins and the paint/finish before you pull them. Otherwise, the paint and finish could likely pull up with the pin and chip or crack the paint & finish around them. Again, however, I haven't seem one of these in person - just a word of caution.

    Hi good video. I have a Gretsch G2410TG with the Vibramate String Spoiler for easier string changing. I ordered a Gretsch Bar bridge like yours i'm hoping that it will help a little with B string buzz at the first fret, also i'm hoping it will help with the B and High E strings jumping of the birdge saddles when I finger pick or pull up on them to stretch the strings out a bit I.'m thinking the Vibramate might be the cause of the strings jumping off the Bridge saddles. Any and all comments are welcomed. I don't really want to remove the Vibramate but if the Bar bridge doesn't fix the issue I might have to. Thank tou.

    • @samuelzetterman
      @samuelzetterman 2 года назад

      It could deffinetly help atleast a bit. The strings stay in place better than on the TOM style bridge mine had originally. The E string does still jump out ocationally. Imma have to look into if the string spoiler is the cause of the problem, but i wouldnt actually think so unless youre doing some major dives with the bigsby.

    Hey nice. Thanks for the helpful video. I have a G2622TG P90s. I think the buzz in my G and B strings is due to its original bridge. If youre picky on tuning stability go for a tune o matic style bridge (tom). But you might need to check measurements. Try going to gretsch-talk.com and asking some questions. Hi again! So, I bought one of these, and I’m happy. But it was a close thing; the pins were slightly closer together than the holes on the new bridge.
