How to install SABnzbd and qBittorrent - Part 5 on automating your plex server
This tutorial covers installing SABnzbd and qBittorrent on a QNAP NAS using docker via Portainer. I show you my personal settings and discuss features in SABnzbd and qBittorrent. I setup a test with a usenet client and indexer and demonstrate how importing works with hard-links and atomic moves. I include importing VPN settings into qBittorrent and running a duplicate container configured as "VPN only" if using public trackers

    Small question, maybe somebody have an idea: I have a plex server running and i'm connection remotley to it. It have enough power for transcoding but I would like to pull the full 77Mbit/s stream. I only get at best 55Mbit/s so you can imagine it's quite miserable to watch... I don't have any limitations configured and with a speedtest I get in the worst moment an upload at server sight of ~180MBit/s and download on client side of ~900MBit/s. Does somebody have an Idea where the issue might be buried?

      When I built the system, I purchased 8 drives together. My plan was to primarily use the storage for media hosting, so I didn't need things like snapshots or qtier. Hence, the static volumes since I back up my container settings to a portable drive. Here's an article showing all the options and their features www.qnap.com/en/how-to/faq/article/what-is-the-difference-between-static-volume-thin-volume-and-thick-volume

    Awesome video, but there is one item to be aware of for folks interested in using their GPUs. I'm using an intel N100 based mini PC, so am using QuickSync. When I followed the direction at the 18 min mark, and added the --device-/dev/dri:/dev/dri under the "Command & Logging" section as noted in the video, my plex instance would throw and error saying that it couldn't find the directory or file in the plex log and then it would kill the plex process. However, when I went to the Runtime & Resources tab, scrolled down to Devices, clicked "add a device+" and then added /dev/dri to both the "host" and the "container" entries, then redeployed the container, my plex container started up fine and I was able to use the iGPU built into my N100. Hope that helps others.

    Hi there I am trying to set up a system for streaming media, home assistant, some containers and light virtualization. I am thinking about running TrueNAS Scale on Zima Board or Blade with Plex container. I am a bit worried about transcoding 4K tho. Is it possible to run this system I described and still being able to access and display 4K content from other devices? What about Dolby Atmos? Thank you very much :)

    • @mrbuckwheet
      @mrbuckwheet 2 месяца назад

      If you run trueNAS scale you cannot run docker without setting up a VM and installing a version of Linux OS. What I've found is people with backgrounds in IT recommend running truenas, and it tends to overcomplicate things for no reason. Keep it simple as everything you want to do and more can be setup with just Linux. If you are the only one who will be accessing everything on your self-hosted system do not make things harder than they need to be because when something breaks it's a pain in the ass to fix. As for the Zimaboard specs show an intel celeron so meh. I would recommend either building you own NAS or purchasing a prebuilt from a manufacturer. Intel 8th gen and up will have no issue with transcoding 4k. If you use a cpu older than that you will prob need a GPU. Treat the process of building/buying a nas the same as a gaming pc or anyother big ticket purchase as that is exactly what it is. Save up and future-proof some of the core pieces. You'll thank yourself later

      If I may, I just ran accross the same type of issue two days ago. It's probably because the path you set in sabznb doesn't exist in sonarr/prowlarr. (or you have a permission issue, that's easier to fix) I'd advise to re-compare the folders suggested in the Trash guides to what you've set in your containers and ensure you have the right paths, so the Sonarr/Radarr containers can access the path you set in sabznb. (I had to read it two more times before figuring how my folder layout wasn't exactly right)

    I got all three *arrs installed, but when I click the Published Port links in Portainer it says unable to connect. Any thoughts on what I screwed up?

    • @mrbuckwheet
      @mrbuckwheet 3 месяца назад

      When clicking on the published port link does the IP address in the new tab match the IP address of Ubuntu? If not in Portainer when on the home tab there is pen icon to edit your main docker environment. Enter Ubuntu's local IP address in the "Public IP" field. Now the links should bring you to the correct address. Make sure your Ubuntu instance has a static IP assigned by your router too. You want that IP address to never change so any connections, bookmarks, and other devices/apps accessing Ubuntu will always be able to find it via that IP address on your local network.

  • @terrymoynahan6161
    @terrymoynahan6161 3 месяца назад

    Quick question.... On portainer, should the 'External' network under 'Network list' have the same IP address as the server. In your video, your localhost is 192.168.0.34, yet the 'external' ip address shown around 26:30 in the above video is 172.18.0.0

    • @mrbuckwheet
      @mrbuckwheet 3 месяца назад

      Nope. Portainer is creating a subnet for docker that will have its own local IP range. This is still an internal network that can only be seen/accessed by the localhost. Its basically a virtual switch with a NAT layer that if allowed we can still expose apps/containers to the internet. I use the "External" name since anything in this network has the ability to access an external network (provided we allow it to)

    Curious if you're not one bit concerned about the legality of all this? Are you rolling dice like everyone else, or have you found a legal loophole? In terms of offering an intranet streaming service to users (paid for or not). Genuine question.

      There's always a risk with anything you do. As for the loophole there is none. I could get canceled tomorrow TBH. However I do practice smart sailing and abide by the TOS for the apps I use. I do not share access to my server with anyone I do not know. Only users are my friends and family. Yes posting a YT video showing all this seems contradicting but I am trying to show what's possible and how to do things properly especially since I remember what it was like for me trying to find an answer or instructions on how to do this. A lot of the tutorials/guides leave out key aspects or are just plain wrong. An example of this is any Docker compose file from any guide on setting up Radarr/Sonarr that has a /movies or /tv mounts and a separate /downloads mount is wrong. You should be using one mount for your media folder like /data or /Media with subfolders inside.

      Wow, that was a little trickier one. I feel fairly confident, it's just hard to see until things start running. I'm a little confused after doing all the setup, how I use these apps in (with) my Plex app. Right now, my Plex has a few streaming services I subscribe too, when I search for movies or tv shows will Plex now also use Sonarr and Radarr? Thanks! Jason

      Witg plex only if you add it to your watch list will sonarr/radarr add it to be monitored. For now use the search option in sonarr/radarr to monitor media since you will have more options to choose from. You can also use lists from trakt, tmdb, and imdb to import popular, top 250 or personal lists you created

    ***** This tutorial uses Ubuntu as the testing environment and follows the folder structure for Ubuntu. If you are using a QNAP or Synology device then the "-v /Container/Portainer:/data" @ 21:38 will need to be changed. Qnap will use "-v /share/Container/Portainer:/data". Synology will be "-v /volume1/Container/Portainer:/data" depending on how you named your volumes. Terramaster will use "-v /mnt/md0/Container/Portainer:/data" md0 represents volume 1, md1 represents volume 2, and so on.

    In your Part 1 video, you say all the Containers should be installed into a single shared folder for ease of management, which I agree, but then for Watchtower you don't define the location so they get installed in the wrong place. So for anyone with a QNAP, if you're having trouble, use this command line (assuming you have things structured like @mrbuckwheet does): docker run -d \ --name watchtower \ -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock \ -v /share/Container/Watchtower:/config \ containrrr/watchtower

      You do not need to add "-v /share/Container/Watchtower:/config". Watchtower does not need a config folder because there are no settings saved. It just runs. All settings are defined in the Environmental Variables. Watchtower is one of the examples where a container does not need or have a /config folder specified. Remember to look at the container's instructions and only mount/bind folder paths if the program calls for it or you need the program to have access to a folder.
