DIY Bug Hotel for Ladybirds/Ladybugs.
Our cherry tree struggles to bear fruit due to all the blackfly/aphid infestation, so we thought encouraging other bugs to move it would be a good idea. With this in mind I decide to build a bug hotel to encourage the bugs who each bugs. It turned out okay, ish :)
I filmed this a long time ago, but our family dog died shortly after and I couldn't bring myself to review the footage until now.

Kintsugi on a Harry Potter Gryffindor Goblet

I've wanted to try the art of kintsugi for a long time. So when I broke my wife's favourite glass I saw the opportunity I needed. Products used*: Vallejo Glorious Gold UK: amzn.to/3x6QONM US: amzn.to/36ZxMym Superglue Accelerator UK: amzn.to/36Whx5f US: amzn.to/3x5tAYi If you've never heard of kintsugi before it's made up of the two words for Golden and Joinery in Japanese. Titan TTB705BDS from ScrewFix 80mm electric band saw initial review and tests

I got hold of this TITAN TTB705BDS 80MM ELECTRIC BAND SAW after fiddling around with jigsaws and scroll saws to cut through thick wood when I should have just cut to the chase and got a bandsaw in the first place :) My other channel, where I'll next be using this in anger on a guitar build: ruclips.net/user/chrisfranklyn Overall I'm impressed for the money and I'm convinced it'll help me along ...
So I made some iphone/tablet folding stands

The kids have these Amazon Kindle Fire tablets. Not a patch on an iPad, but during the periodic sales they’re about a tenth of the price. The first thing I did was to mock up some ideas in SketchUp, they were okay but not really what I was looking for. I liked the idea of one based on a Viking Chair, but I wanted to make something smaller and that would fold away when not in use. The idea I cam...
So I started with an oak table end ended with walnut... restoration.

I've had this old oak veneered table laying around for years getting more and more abuse and decided to give it some love. The end product looking lovely. With Colron Walnut Dye and Ronseal MattCoat polyurethane on the base and Osmo Wood wax and PolyX on the top. The top that has now magically turned from oak to walnut. Previously anything I've veneered hasn't worked, but these iron on ones wor...
So I made a wooden Union Jack - Make A Flag Challenge - #mafc2020
Просмотров 2944 года назад
I made this in response to James's Man Cave's Make A Flag Challenge, it's not my finest hour - but I had a laugh making it. Made from recycled board and finished with Osmo primary colour Wood Wax finish. For the playlist of other people doing this, see here: ruclips.net/p/PLZ6tauqrh0M2WHau1DSzUlUSohb6wpXgX
So I made a physio step stool.

Thanks for watching. This is a project where I made a step stool from cheap timber found in any DIY or lumber yard. Glued with Gorilla wood glue, stained with Crimson Guitars wood stain and finished with Wilko Danish oil, if any of that matters to you :) The method of joinery here was inspired by Mike Montgomery from Modern Builds and the outdoor bench he made from 4 by 2s. His bench was direct...
So I made a some book shelves (feat Osmo PolyX and Wood Wax finish).

It's been half a year since I uploaded a video and whilst watching this back my internal voices are screaming "NO ONE CARES" and "What are you blathering on about". But in the essence of preventing me stalling any further I've made this video so I can move on. Basically my son needed some shelves, and I wanted an excuse to buy some very expensive varnish/finish to try in the form of Osmo Poly-x...
As someone who only started woodworking last year I found it bemusing that Titan power tools don't come with a dust extractor connector. When I got my Titan Miter Saw it only came with a dust bag which quite frankly sucks (no pun). I later got a Titan Circular Saw and again no dust connector.
how easy is it to put together thinking of getting one
not a very good review by yourself . That would not be the reason to buy a band saw ,,,, better get educated soon !!
I have never seen anyone cut from the side. place should be in front of the blade. that is how you push the product towards the blade not pull it along.
I'm looking at buying one of these for cutting out wooden plaques, letter type stuff. Hoping this might be the one for the job 😂
I hope so. The best thing to do is to get a new blade with a tooth count suitable for the wood thickness.
The fence on the TITAN BANDSAW has always been a major issue. If u can get ur hands on a different one or maybe do something to make it not move so much & put a new blade on it then it's a decent little saw. I was hoping u would do a longer video on it bcos I've watched a fair few of these. Look at some of the other ones on YT to see how they did with the fence. The table wasn't really an issue on the other videos I watched tbf but the fence is a nightmare on them all. Maybe u should make a fence from a piece of wood and just clamp it to the table mate. U can get some really nice veneers from it that way. Check out PETER MILLARD's "10 minute workshop! videos on bandsaws if u need a bit more advice on these budget saws
Cheers for the comments, I tend to cut more freeform shapes so don't really need a fence at the moment but I would probably just clamp on a straight edge if I did.
Hi what colour tint did you go for? It looks like what I'm after
Hi, what was the colour of the tint?
*This is my second WEN tool and they are both great **MyBest.Tools** I needed to do some trim work around the house and needed a scroll saw for the intricate work. No complaints so far.*
Would this cut half inch steel ?
Thanks Chris, great video! Can you let be know the dimensions of the base of this bandsaw. I have a table that is 50cm deep so just need to know if this will fit on my table. Thanks!
Will it cut mild metal.
Looks like a fairly cheap and terrible band saw.
It's the cheapest one they do, and yeah cheap for a reason.
Forget it SimpleSimon, I just don't have the time for the stupid mistakes. ARE YOU A BUS DRIVER....for the afflicted?
Yes, get back in your seat.
WHATever you do, DON'T go on Dragons Den, they'll shred ya arse to slivers. Presentation boy'o , presentation, Christ you had enough time to rehearse it.
Honestly, I'm just an arsehole in a shed who thought he'd shit a video out and see what happened. I had no idea this many people would find it.
@@chrisfranklynmakes I thought you did real well! I even enjoyed you humming that little tune!
Kreatif temanku 👍👍👍🇮🇩
Thanks!
Hi Chris, A video you recorded earlier. Different and good idea for harmful flies and insects. Insect hotel. Even the name sounded interesting to me. I'm sorry about your family's dead dog. Thank you for sharing. I wish you healthy, fly-free and insect-free days. See you. Big greetings. Your friend Mehmet
Thanks for checking it out Mehmet! Next year we'll see if it works I think, might be too late in the season.
Excellent build for the creepy crawlies 👌👍🐛🐞
Thanks 👍
Nice little build, made a similar one with my eldest. Sorry to hear about Ollie, 16 is a respectable age for a dog.
Thanks mate, hoping it brings in the bugs!
@@chrisfranklynmakes It's not s bug it's a feature! 😁
Neat little build, Chris. should keep the kids engaged with wildlife. And sorry about your pet dog.. not easy when they move along.. 🙏🏻
Thanks! They're obsessed with bugs! We've got many ant farms in the house now :)
Fun little build. Sorry to hear you lost your dog, never a nice thing to have to deal with
Thanks mate!
Interesting repair, haven't heard of this technique before
I think there's a lot of potential for rescuing broken things :)
Kintsugi is great for hiding crimes! 😁 Clever trick to paint on the gold after the glue up, instead of mixing the gold in the glue!
Thanks, it's not very robust with the acrylic paint, someone could pull it off. But it's fine for decoration. :)
@@chrisfranklynmakes True. But considering kintsugi typically isn't used on everyday use objects, so as long as you are careful it's probably fine. As long as you don't consume paint flakes... 😬
plot twist - you broke your wife's glass on purpose, so you can get the video going. what camera did you get?
plot twist - it's my wife's camera and we've had it all along! It's a Nikon Coolpix B700 and it seems to be a lot better than my phone camera :) SO many options, I've got to learn what they all do. But I don't necessarily want to have it in the garage when I'm making sawdust or painting, so we'll see... Thanks for being on my much ignored second channel with a yearly upload schedule :) (I've picked up many guitar specific subs over there now, so I think I'll do random things here)
I bought this from Screwfix, The blade as supplied is too long. The tension is at its max as fitted, experiments reveal that a blade length of 61 1/2 inch is better. The blade supplied is 62 inches 1575 mm and is just too long.otherwise the saw is good value. Apart from the rip fence and the opening of the doors which is another story. Hope this helps best wishes Derek Rowe
Oh god, the doors. You could grow a beard unscrewing those! :) Thanks for the length tip.
Derek, take a look at this: ruclips.net/video/ip4CYW3ee-Y/видео.html I did what Jer suggested, just using a hand-held metal file/rasp - it worked a treat, fence now attaches perfectly to the table. Also, I bought a Starratt 1575 blade for about €12; improves the saw immensely
8.6mm to 8.9mm close enough !
Can I ask. I’ve bought this recently I’m a hobbyist and I still get the blade straying. I’ve tried increasing the tension in quarter turn movements until it’s fully tightened but nothing works. I’ve done the tracking six times even removing the blade twice. I have bought a new blade from Tuffsaws. Is there anything I can try at all.
I'm afraid I'm a beginner like you and it's frustrating I agree. If I work something out I'll let you know. I actually tend to cut going into the blade at a 10 degree(ish) angle these days. Since I got it the fence and guards aren't that useful now.
Now that you've added a blade from TuffSaws, does the blade still wander? Do you use a 6mm or 10mm wide blade?
How has this been and have you used it to cut any metal?
Really good. Especially since I got some new blades with appropriate tooth counts for different jobs. I've never cut any metal with it... not deliberately, I hit a nail once and needed a new blade!
Need candle wax the slots up make them run free
That's a really good idea... although they now make TIE Fighter noises when I push the mitre jig really fast. I'd be sad to see that go :)
Great review, I bought the same saw yesterday and set it up but I'm having trouble with the saw blade turning, when I try and cut a curved shape the blade turns and slows down! Any advice on how to prevent this? Sorry for the essay👍
Yeah, I've had a couple of stalls where the motor slows right down. Perhaps it's too week... or a blade with a different tooth count or adjusting the guide height? If it's pushing into the guide sides it might stall? I'm just guessing though. I've hope you had better luck since you posted that.
Great video, I had my band saw today, I've set it up but when I try to cut a curve the saw blade twist and starts to slow down! Can you give me any advise on what to do, thanks 👍
Would it be powerful enough to cut out a guitar body?
Chris, Would it?
Hi, sorry to take a long time... I've cut guitar bodies out of teak and one that was a sapele, walnut and maple laminate since getting it. So yes, it works for guitar bodies. Sorry to take so long to get back to you!
I bought one of these a year ago and have only just started to use it. It’s fantastic. I bolted a large 15mm ply on top of the existing plate, cut the line into it and it cuts so well and straight. I’m terrified 😱😱 of the table saw, so this bandsaw suits me fine 😁. Great review, thank you very much, enjoyed watching you 😊
Thanks for the advice. I have meant to out a stronger and perhaps wider table on top of mine too. Especially when I'm using it for guitars and could do with the extra support.
I've just bought one and the first thing I did, (after reading and watching other reviews), was to make a decent fence, Peter Millard style), and buy a couple of blades from Tuff Saws. (They sell a variety of the apparently difficult to find Titan 1575mm blades). Dust extraction... I cut a 40mm straight push fit coupler in half, wrapped a bit of tape around it and it fits perfectly into the exhaust port. I've made a load of vacuum attachments with 40mm waste pipe and a heat gun and my Henry fits a treat. Cheap & it's definitely worth doing. It cuts the dust right down. I love this band saw. I cannot see what would be better in a more expensive one that would justify the extra £s apart from cutting capacity.
Cheers! Thanks for all that. I do need to work on a series of attachments for things - I'm slightly terrified to use my belt/disc sander combo in the garage because the clouds of dust it'll kick up. I will check out Tuff Saws, a good blade would work a treat I'm sure.
I’m thinking of getting one. Is it still working ok and do you have any pictures of your modifications. Great review. Cheers for your help
it seems 40mm is the go-to for extractor piping : ]
Good review, you will have to do a 6 month update after you have done a few projects 👍 😊
Yeah, long term plan would be a good plan. Especially for something at the cheaper end of the market. I think the best improvement will be a decent new blade for it, which I'll upgrade at some point.
Hey bud what was the name/brand of the tint you used before the poly oil topcoat? We're also looking for a brown pine look on our floorboards :)
It was Osmo Wood Wax Finish, so I'm not sure it it would work on floors because you only get one coat of PolyX over it. I think they sell tints though, so might be worth looking into those. Good luck!
Well done mate. Nice vid and result. Be nice to ur self
Thanks 👍
Nice design! Especially like how small they get when folded away. Will try my own version when I get the time!
Go for it! Don't need a lot of wood for it.
@@chrisfranklynmakes True, but shop time is scarce and the to do list is long...
whoever breaks the stand, loses the tablet privileges. (don't try that for real, don't have kids myself but your life might turn into a continuous nightmare)
Cracking idea with the poster paint, perfect cost effective project for a satuday afternoon
Thanks 👍
Hehe! It's amazing how quickly hand sanding gets old isn't it! Nice little project and I guarantee they will last longer than the plastic ones. Nice work sir.
Cheers! I'm always surprised how little your removing :)
By the way my latest video is an adaptor to fit a hoover to my Sander if you get 5mis 👍🌝
Cool, I'm checking that out right now. The dust they make really does put me off using it.
You are right about the dust but I love mine!
Nice simple solution and I like the idea of poster paint as a stain 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing work. What are your future video ideas? Also, I really want to Be youtube Friends :d
Nicely done Chris 😁. I've never worked with veneers before 🤔. Looks like I need to give it a go 😁. Thanks Chris, stay safe 😁👍
Thanks. The end result was nice, but not sure about the edges. More practice needed I guess.
Nice job, looks good, new subscriber here, please subscribe back to Gene Cooksey, thanks for your videos,
Nice job! Good to see that I'm not the only one sneaking into the workshop in my pyjamas... :-)
Thanks and hell yeah! Even during lock-down I've still got a day job, three kids, a wife and a dog! Take your chances when you can...
