I recently got back into Undertale because I was writing a fantasy story and making a playlist for my characters, and Asgore’s theme just hit so perfectly that I ended up listening to the rest of the track. I even listened to hopes and dreams while studying to keep myself “determined” for my finals. It just went from there. I’d consider myself in the fandom again, and man it’s so…oddly comforting to see its current state. Everyone is significantly more mature and relaxed, the fan works somehow got BETTER, I’m happy to see such a dramatic shift in maturity and togetherness in a fandom I felt so alienated with previously.

I've made a few contributions to undertale. One being an unholy plush series that i really want to both remake and finish the original version, i made an au that got really popular despite me doing the bare minimum. And i still have a few aus i want to create, but most of them are crossover aus based on other fandoms that I've started moving onto. Undertale plush adventure i still have fond memories of, it brings back memories of when i was a kid and used to have a lot of creativity for making silly plush videos. I still do plush videos just not as often and not as much undertale related plush skits, even if plush videos are kind of dying out, i still adore making these types of videos as it's a comfort thing as someone who's got Autism. The major au i made that got popular was called Freaktale (The name was tained by the internet) i must admit, I cooked really good with the concept of the au, but back then i didn't have confidence in my art style and basically stole other peoples sprites because i thought it looked better and people would like more than my crappy art style back then, i honestly never thought i would improve my style and that's one of the reasons i did it. Thankfully people caught on but some people were honestly really rude about it but i can kinda understand but it still traumatized me as a kid. Since I'm much older i can understand that i didn't handle the original au that well and i honestly really regret making even if it became so popular, I am making a new version with new Designs and a friend who wants to make a game out of the au, he's added a lot of awesome details to the ideas i had and I'm super excited to see how the game progresses. As for my other contributions to undertale, i used to do "Au theme videos" which basically killed my channel, i did this because i saw other people doing it and wanted to fit in, this lead me to a toxic group of people who abused me and that i didn't really treat nicely either, but that's not important. I don't support these kinds of videos anymore as they just take peoples art and music and take views away from the artists and musicians. Now this leads me to now, I've got 2 aus i work with besides freaktale. One is a crossover au between undertale and Godzilla named "Kaiju Containment" and it's honestly my favourite contribution to the community besides plush videos. I cooked with hard with Kaiju Containment and i absolutely love how I excited the ideas for the au! My second (or third au) is a Prehistoric au that takes references to different paleo media. It was originally a Jurassic park undertale au but i decided to make it more Paleontology based. I don't work as much on it as i do with Kaiju Containment or freaktale, but I still like it more than freaktale. Even if i had negative experiences with the undertale fandom in the past, i still have a massive amount of love and respect for this game and it honestly helped me grow up more, even if I'm not as active in the community as i used to, i still love contributing to it every so often.

I remember there used to be an underfell time a game with voice acting made form ManiaKnight but he gave up and left the fandom but there is still some gameplay of it from merg and some other creators they also had voice actors voicing some of the Underverse episodes (I was also a late Undertale fan in 2017 or 18 ish)

As someone who's been around since the whole Sans fangirl era of Undertale, I've kinda been mostly in the closet of being a fan and here I am peeking my head out to find out there was more AUs???? wat I only remember Underfell lol and Underswap, who are all of these new faces??? x'D

Also side tangent but during meming era when my sister was in band they played megalovania on the percussion instruments so much that not only did the band director learn the song name but also banned them from playing it 😭

Hearing powerscaling in a video is so surreal. Especially since I was once close to the creator of Alphatale and Godverse, or at least close enough to have my art featured in Sts’ song and be commissioned by Shadikal. That side of the community was, a horrible fever dream, as much as people find fun in power scaling I personally hate it. This is a great video and I’m honestly really glad to see people still dive into the fandom and talk about it.

I remember being really young and enraptured by all the creativity in the early fandom years and wanting to join it someday(I never did then, and thank the stars-I would’ve either been eaten alive or cringe now at my writing) but looking back I see why my mom hated it with much passion I watched stuff while she was out of the room. Gods, there was was crazy stuff. And now here I am years later, dragged back into the fandom thanks to some good fanfics and actually writing my own AU-which is TERRIFYING. I didn’t change too much about the canon setting, just added some human culture, politics, myths, and got rid of the player aspect. I got curious as to how the humans would remember and twist history about the War, basically. And that led me to making a Frisk character that could, in the right situation, go down all three paths, and I love this gremlin I’ve made. I also started the in-depth worldbuilding with them too: How do they know how to handle weapons? They were taught. Why were they taught? In case a battle comes and the civilians need to fight alongside the city’s army. Why does a city need an army in the first place? Because the countries around Ebott want their land. What makes the land so special? Because it’s very lush and a bit weird. And why is that? Because of all the magic used in the War warped the area permanently. You get the picture. And THAT eventually led to OCs, the dreaded OCs that I’m terrified are secretly awful. My main human trio are Dahlia, Dylan, and Kael, who have souls of Kindness, Bravery, and Integrity respectively. And they can be what one can refer to as Frisk’s main connections, they had the most affect on the kid’s character growing up. Dahlia is the one I’m most worried about, as she has the most screentime and knows/knew both Frisk and Clover(yes I cut an edge and made UTY canon). I’m terrified that I made her too well-rounded, too skilled, what have you. I don’t think I have-she’s lived a life of ups and downs and tries her best despite a flaw that is so in-core to her that even she has to admit was probably the reason Frisk climbed Mt. Ebott to the cave Dahlia herself showed them. I love watching the dynamic between her and Frisk, and even her and Clover, they are cute in their own ways. And I’m really scared that I’ve messed up somewhere, especially since I just started posting on Ao3(see replies, though RUclips has been acting up for my comments, so it might not be). This Photoshop Flowey one-shot is the first introduction to my world, its Souls, its Frisk & Chara, and my original characters. I’m glad it’s gotten and sort of attention(~300 hits as of now) but I’m still worried that the OCs are going to be hated, that I didn’t, for what little screentime they have, give a good impression. Hell, I worry that I yapped too much about the Souls’ histories in the end card, even though this story is about how they move forward and not their pasts, but I digress. Point is: thanks for making this video, as a wannabe creator it’s nice to see the fandom’s past and that it hasn’t died yet. Anyway, I’m done screaming into the void, goodnight everyone!

i also unfortunately got spoiled about undertale, as by the time i did actually play it (a few months ago im pretty sure?) i already knew all about the game because it was super popular a few years ago and it was hard to evade spoilers. the only good thing was that i didnt watch any playthroughs so my experience was a semi-blind playthrough

Great video, but I didn'r really understand why Error and the other guy were there? I mean, do whatever you want, but that banter kind of put me off sometimes, although the art and voice acting was nice. I used to be super big on Undertale and the fandom, but after being pissed off by a lot of aspects of it, I slowly moved onto another fandom to focus on, and I'm so glad I did. I don't regret my time in the UT fandom, I'm just happy to be able to move on from it smoothly without feeling like I lost something. You really make it sound like that sometimes.

I was one of the early og kids from the undertale community, I'm so glad I've grown from my experiences since when I was a child. I was unfortunately groomed by a man who used ink sans pfp to nsfw rp with my comfort character that I still like to this day despite the abuse, error sans. I'm a big fan of horror tale, project yellow and other fan games that aren't problematic but Jesus every now and again I keep forgetting just how bad the undertale community was when it first came out and how many people I've had to block because I say I'm uncomfortable with any form of: incest, pedophilia, sa, bestality(not spelled right on purpose.) And poor 15 year old me had to deal with sa threats. Don't get me wrong there's good people within the community but I have a hard time trusting people who have good art styles because they go and waste it on fetishizing abuse. Despite everything, Toby Fox is my favorite creator and I'm glad he exists and I'm chilling with deltarune now, take care 🫶

I was honestly surprised by not seeing GZtale mentioned as much, as to me that was important… but it may have just been because I was in such a niche community back in the days. I honestly don’t even know what happened to it, I was too young when I was into undertale stuff to even process in my little pea brain that GZtale may have been cancelled lmao. Because if i remember correctly, it *was* gonna be animated.. and I did like how it was written in the comic.. though I cannot re-read it fully as anything I find about the AU now-a-days is sort of deleted off the face of the internet (including the official comic im pretty sure) I’m aware it was originally in another language other than english, but i really did like the translation of it.. even if it had its hiccups. I just kind of assume now GolzyDee got bullied off the face of the internet similar to any other smaller creators at the time. Its sad to see, and I mean.. it happened back near 2019-2020 ish? I don’t know how prevalent you were in that community at the time.. but it would be awesome to talk about it in another video at some point, if you know anything else about it.. or just wanna go over it! It honestly made me jump up and down when I saw the small little Ganz clip… GZtale still remains as one of my fav aus.. even if its off the face of the internet. It sort of feels like a fever dream.. Also. I was a victim of the undertale characters react videos. I’m guilty of making 3 of them (i only really keep them up for nostalgia purposes..) and I’m fearful that since you were in that sort of niche community.. if you saw them. (Id die..) I've been a fan since 2017 so a bit late on the hype but still in touch with everything before people moved on :( I think my favorite thing was how you could find a niche of the niche (due to popularity of creating AU's) and it would still have tons of fanart and a few fanfics

There's some misinformation with Flowerfell (it wasn't the creator not shipping something and being pressured into it to or whatever). You can read about it by searching for "Kazefiend: What Really Ruined an AU". To put it briefly, this person was one of the AU creator's close friends online. They made a document explaining what really happened, and have been updating it from time to time. FlowerFell's creator did ship Sans/Frisk (in the AU, Frisk was over 18 btw), they actually drew them sharing a kiss and some nsfw artwork too. They abandoned the AU because of personal mental health issues, some fandom things triggering them, such as people reposting art without credit, making ask blogs that presented themselves as canon, people not crediting them as the creator and sometimes straight up passing the idea as their own, kids online obsessively "kinning" the characters... I recommend just reading the document, because that thing about "nooo, the fandom made it a ship and it wasn't supposed to be" is a rumor that was made so popular by that youtube video you referenced that people take it as the truth without any evidence

I’m going to say as someone who got into the fandom around the time it was dying which was around 2019 and then was glad it spiked back up during the pandemic I have had my fair share of seeing both sides of the fandom and I myself have also grown over the years to be better as someone who realized they were on the toxic side of the fandom. I keep to myself but always enjoy seeing be aus and animations that come my way and always make sure to tell them how great they are doing! A lot of the creators are so talented and it’s amazing how much effort this fandom has put in.
