Have you read? | Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi
The Christmas Carol for sure. And even though it’s more winterr than Christmas, I started Doctor Zhivago yesterday. Great list!
Thanks for checking out the video!
Thank you for the list and have a very Merry Christmas! 🎄
Same to you!
I love A Christmas Carol. It's one of my favorite ghost stories. I have never read The Turn Of The Screw, even though I have always wanted to. I've heard it was a difficult read and have put if off because of that. I absolutely love the 60's film The Innocents that is based off the novel, and every other spooky tale of a governess since then. I am a little obsessed with the gothic governess tale, it never gets old for me. Lol I will have to consider reading it at some point. NOS4A2 is so good! I read it a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Turn of the Screw deserves a re-read on my part. I'm hopeful Henry James will click with me at some point. Thanks for watching!
A classic and chilly Christmas recommendation list, I'd say! But then I didn't exactly expect books with little elves with glittery wings swinging little annoying bells flying around and around a blinking tree😁. I think I may have half of the books on my shelves😊. Merry Christmas!
You always leave the best comments, thank you so much for checking out the video!
Ghost Story gets a lot of hate but i really liked it, it's been years since i read it. You're right about NOS4A2 it didn't seem like almost 700 pages, i flew through it! Not a fan of Hill's other books but i love that one. Merry Christmas to you and yours! 📚💚❤️📚
Thanks for watching! For me, I just love Joe Hills creativity.
@blackbeltreads He does have his own unique voice, which is appreciated, knowing who his dad is lol.
Good picks man. have a good Christmas
Thanks, you too!
Great ideas! Thanks
Glad you like them!
finally got around to this and as again lots of cool books and figures. im almost finished reading Piranesi and its a very interesting read but i like it so far
I’ve heard it’s very strange. I will be looking to read it soon since it’s a relatively small book.
@@blackbeltreads i have the exact same copy and its 248 pages which is perfect for a good in between book
I have the 4 hardcovers. This one seems to be a little taller in size, but in the way the deluxe editions by Brubaker and Phillips are, same art size just with more white space. The No Extras included turn me off, seems there's nothing different from my original 4. I was planning on selling them and buying the complete one but it seems it's not really complete. Guess I'll have to go with the Martini Editions at some point in my life. Lately I've been reading a lot of stuff that has some kind of adaptation and comparing. Pedro Paramo, No Country For Old Men, One Hundred Years of Solitude. Guess I'll re-read my Parkers and do the same. Recently I Read Slaughter-House Five. The comic was just as good as the Book.
This is just standard size with no extras. Really cool book though! Slaughter house five is on my list tbr
Definitely a great book collection!
Thanks! Let me know if there’s anything that I need to put at the top of my tbr
as again you got a lot of great ones.i actually really love watching these kinds of long videos. ironic you mentioned Lies of P but i recently played through it and loved it i have thought about checking out lock and key as they do look very cool.
Glad you enjoyed it! Highly highly recommend Locke & Key
I want to read Annihilation too, I haven't seen the movie, only the trailer. Love that set of Dark Tower series. Mine are all mismatched lol. Nice collection and love the figurines too!📚👍
We really need to read Annihilation, it's also very short so that should be motivating
In another comment today discussing disturbing books I wrote that Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go" woluld have to be one of the most disturbing books I've read. I'm still thinking about how bleak and utterly hopeless it all felt. Is is, at the same time, one of my most beloved books. Just writing this while we are at the Ishiguro's in your shelf. Now on with the video.🙂
I’m very excited to continue with his novels. NLMG is one I’m eagerly looking forward to.
Very cool collection. 😊
Thank you! Hope you found something interesting on the shelf.
Great collection
Thanks! Wish I had read them all but I’m getting there
Great shelves so far! (Fair amount of ibjjf medals too, so that is impressive to me!).
Haha I love how you drop jiu jitsu knowledge like that. Do you train or have someone in your life that trains?
@@blackbeltreadsjust a blue belt. Have competed a few times but never ibjjf.
Yay, bookshelf tour! Nice collection. I personally love seeing all the action figures on the shelf, it adds personality to your collection. I’ve had the Stormlight books on my bookshelf for quite a while now and want to read them too but I keep seeing from Brandon and other channels that you should really read the original Mistborn trilogy first so I guess that will be on my near future goals. I read Slewfoot this year for spooky season and loved it! His drawings are great too. The Road is one of my favorite books and I noticed the graphic novel and was curious if it was good also. On a side note: Your lighting looked good today. I can tell you’ve been adding extra touches to the channel. Look forward to Part 2. Bookshelf tours are definitely a lot of work!
Thank you as always you are so nice. You were the first person I remember commenting and encouraging me when I first started these videos. I really appreciate that.
you got a ll kinds of great one here. i read Boys Life earlier this year and loved it and then i recently just found a copy of Swan Song which im exited for. that copy of shogun looks awesome, i hope i can get to it next year
So many choices, Shogun is high up on my list.
What a great collection!
Thanks! Do you think anyone would want to see a part 2?
@blackbeltreads I'd watch!
Books overflowing on multiple shelves, stacked on the floor, in corners, on the night table, on top of the bookshelf, under the TV stand etc, Yes, I have the same problem. 😆 I need to stop myself already. I just can't seem to do it. LOL! I've had Dark Matter by Blake Crouch sitting on one of my shelves for a few years, still haven't picked it up. Our Share Of Night I picked up from the library in October, never got to it. Let us know how it is. I have not read any Darcey Coates either. I did pick up one of her books from the library a couple years ago, read about 2 chapters, put it down, and then didn't pick it back up. No reason that I can remember. Just don't think i was in the mood for a ghost story at the time? I do want to pick up a couple of her books at some point though. I think i might have mentioned this in another of your videos, but I read So Thirsty from Rachel Harrison in September, and meh. I didn't think it was that good. Not sure I will pick up any more of her books. Thanks for sharing your shelves. Will tune in for the next one.
I’ve heard Our Share of Night is great, I really want to read it soon. We should read Dark Matter next month
@@blackbeltreads I might pick up Dark Matter next month, not sure though. Holidays are always busy, busy for me. We'll see how many books I can squeeze in. December is usually one of the months I get the least done in way of my hobbies. I'm currently reading a lot of cozy mysteries (whodunits). I am on a kick reading them right now. I have never read them before, but picked up a couple last month and really liked how quick, fun, and easy they were to read. I love mysteries and Clue type stories. Clue was my game back in the day. I use to beg my sister to play with me. I loved it.😆 I honestly didn't think I would like cozies, but here I am reading them. LOL Also, Our Share Of Night does sound awesome. I will definitely be picking it back up soon.
I feel ya. Always read what you want!
First Law definitely my favorite fantasy series of all time, just incredible. Awesome and true to life ending. Of the three stand alones; Best Served Cold was actually lame, the strong don’t need no man and indestructible whamen! main character was not believable. Heroes was very cool and had some First Law characters and is about one battle in a war. Red Country has Logan and is basically a western novel in a swords fantasy setting and was really cool too. The second trilogy is sitting on the shelf waiting for the right time and I’ve heard too that it’s even better somehow. And he’s got a new series coming out called Devils that has been sent ahead of release to a booktuber I watch who is absolutely blown away by it. So cool, can’t wait.
First Law is so good! I can’t wait to get to the second trilogy. I will look into Devils that sounds perfect for me.
Nice! Haunting of Hill house is my favorite book! Shirley Jackson is one of my favorite authors. I want to read Count of Monte Cristo, I'm waiting to come across a copy of it that appeals to me. Can't wait for part 2! 🤓📚✌️🩵
I love Dumas, he is very readable. You will be hooked once you start Monte Cristo and won’t want to stop. Thanks for sharing your love of Jackson. I’m definitely reading Hill House next month.
You've got yourself a very fine library there. 😃Curious about the Darcy Coates, though. Sticks out like a sore thumb, isn't that phrase?😉
I don’t even remember buying any Darcy Coates, I think it just spawned onto my shelf!
I read Swan Song a long long time ago and forgot about the scab-face until you just mentioned it and yeah that was a cool part of a cool book but as it is with just about every S. King book I’ve ever read, and McCammon too, the endings are always a huge anti-climactic let-down. Phantoms by Dean Koontz was really god, I just finished that a few days ago.
It’s about the journey, not the destination. Most horror books don’t have the best ending but that’s okay if the rest is good. A good ending I recently read was Hex. Hex did a great job building suspense and ending in madness
@ cool I saw your review and it’s on my list now
Watch the movie Nefarious. Great religious/demonic theme.
Perfect! Thanks, I’ll check it out
I’ve heard the author’s book The Elementals was very good and that this book is good too but I read his other book Cold Moon Over Babylon and thought it was incredibly lame and tedious and non believable motivations of the main character and very disappointing. I hope you read that one so I can gauge your opinions to know if I can trust your recommendations
It’s on my list! I plan to read more McDowell books in the near future
@ I had shoulder surgery so I’m stranded and doing a lot of reading. In a row, in a little over a week I read three horror books. Cunning Folk by Adam Nevill - family moves into a house and there’s kind-of satanists next door, it was pretty great, total page turner, satisfying ending. Then Cold Moon and it sucked, nothing good to say about it at all, just wanted to get through it to see if anything redeemed it…nope! Then Phantoms by Dean Koontz and it’s a monster story that has great religious and mythological undertones and it was a page turner and great with a satisfying ending. 👍🏻✌️
I haven’t read any Nevill or Koontz before, I gotta check these out. Bummer about Cold Moon!
@ I’m surprised you’ve never read any Dean Koontz books. His and then McCammon books are usually the next authors in line for King fans. I like Swan Song over The Stand, which are often compared. I’m almost 60y/o and I’ve read hundreds of books and am like you also a comic book fan and collector. Phantoms and Twilight Eyes are my recommendations for Koontz books. I read a lot of nonfiction too and I must recommend my most recommended book of all time to you - ‘Demonic Males; apes and the origins of human violence’ by Richard Wrangham and Dale Peterson. Just by that title I think you’d be interested. Much respect on the black belt and your training.
That sounds like exactly what I’m looking for! I’m always looking for nonfiction recommendations. I don’t know why I never got around to Koontz. Phantoms always come highly recommended.
I have to read this! Every so often it keeps popping up. Maybe I'll read it around Christmas, that somehow seems appropriate doesn't it? Sort of..kind of..? 😂🤓✌️
That’s perfect! Take it out Christmas morning and you’ll get to explain to your whole family just how large the Library of Babel really is…
@blackbeltreads 😂👍
Omg, you put me into a blue mood after that description! 🙁lol ✌️
Even with my bubbly personality?!
That sounds so interesting! I'll have to add it to my TBR-List für november, since that's the month morbid me likes to read about death and the afterlife. I already have "It Lasts Forever and then It's Gone" by Anne de Marcken and " A Shining" by Jon Fosse on that list and can't wait to get apound to these after I have finished "The Haar."
You have some great books to look forward to. I’ve also got The Haar on my list. Sodergren has come highly recommended to me several times. I am going to look into the other books you’ve mentioned.
This was such a phenomenal book. It's one of a few books that I think about often. The despair was palpable.
I’m glad you liked it too! This book will stick with me for a long time to come, maybe eons…
@@blackbeltreads Three Body Problem trilogy is another one I think about all the time. More existential dread with that one!
@@wickedfair Ahh that is another one on the tbr. I have been so excited to get to the series, I need to make that a priority. Thanks for recommending this to me!
I quit reading Bentley little because of the sexual horror.
Uh Oh sounds like it might be a recurring theme in his books. That is probably my least favorite thing to read so that stinks
Love your reflections. This is my next pick up. They have new editions out with beaut covers. Split over smaller novellas 😊
Thanks! It makes sense, I believe Blackwater was originally published in pieces. It's very long but worth every page imo
Definitely heard good things about 'Blackwater'. Keep meaning to check that out. Also heard good things about his book 'The Amulet', which sounds like it's more along the lines of Twilight Zone or Final Destination.
Oh man, I can’t wait to check out more of his books. Thanks for letting me know about that one.
oh yeah i forgot about this author. i remember someone mentioned his books are great but could not remember his name. yeah a lot of his books dont have english translations yet so thanks for reminding me
I very much enjoyed Happiness and Blood on the Tracks. I don’t remember liking Flowers of Evil quite as much but it has been years since I read it.
I just finished this book. My overall impression is that it very much felt like a "episode 1" type of book. The last third of the book definitely justified the first 2/3. I definitely want to read the next book.
Same here! I keep hearing that the series gets better and better as it goes on.
Bentley Little can be quite graphic and sexual and also quite odd. In the Town a woman gives birth to a cactus. The Association is about this home owner’s association with outrageous rules like you not being able to work at home or not being able to wear certain clothes and they get worse and worse and if you don’t comply you die. There’s a part in The Resort where guests are forced to participate in games and activities by demonic hotel personnel. Some are interesting while others are misses. Do try to read The Collection which is full of weird short stories.
Thanks for sharing!! I had no idea these type of stories existed. I’m definitely checking all of them out.
Awesome, I’d hoped to shine a light on a less respected area of horror fiction.
I have heard nothing but great things about Hex, not sure why I haven't picked it up yet. I just picked up Graveyard Shift by M.L. Rio and We Use To Live Here by Marcus Kliewer. Graveyard Shift is a very short novella. Getting ready to lay down here in a few and start that one. Thanks for sharing! Happy Weekend!
I’ve not read either of those, very interested to hear how they turn out
Still reading The Terror and love it. Finished Goth, it was a really interesting Japanese horror book. And an also reading A Botanical Daughter, which is a Frankenstein re- imagining. It’s very light but effective in making sure the reader is questioning ethics as does Frankenstein.
Oh that sounds great. I’m actually reading Frankenstein for the first time ever and really enjoy the writing. I’m taking it very slowly
@@blackbeltreadsit’s a wonderful book. My question when I read it was always, who is truly the monster? Enjoy!
Guess what. Right. Just added "Hex" to my TBR.
Nice! It’s really great, I wanted to ramble on about it but tried to make it brief
Hex has been on my tbr Forever! I have to pick it up. Making a trip to books a million this weekend and it will be at the top of my list! Thanks and Happy Halloween reading!🧡🖤🧡🎃📚
Hope you enjoy it!
Happiness is on kindle unlimited so I'll check it out.
Awesome, it’s a very quick read. Hope you like it
I read Child of God and Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying back to back. That was one surreal, southern gothic nightmare.
That’s is right up my alley bro. As I Lay Dying is an all time favorite of mine.
I love Japanese fiction. Currently reading Goth by Otsuichi. It’s super creepy.
I haven’t heard of that, I’ll check it out!
I didn’t even realize internet horror was a thing! Very cool. Omg that peeking wife thing sounds crazy!!! Btw you have the perfect voice for scary story telling!
That’s so sweet of you to say! I’m not very confident in my speaking abilities so thank you for the compliment.
@@blackbeltreadsjust pretend you are on the mat. You are good though.
This. Creeped. Me. Out. Just. By. Listening. Also, I watched this just before bedtime. "Happy" dreams awaiting.
Just imagine the smiling face peeking at you from under the bed. Sweet dreams 😈
I need to get on Night Film. I have it on my Kindle. I subbed to your channel
Thanks for the sub! Gotta wait for a rainy day and dig in
Totally agree with the Space Cowboy moment in Gerald's Game. I first read that book when i was in my early teens, & that moment scared the hell out of me, & it's still nightmare fuel to me now as a fully grown adult.
I just recently read Gerald’s Game and I thought it was great! This moment was at the front of my memory.
