Fleet's AP Art History
США
Добавлен 15 июн 2012
Heya folks! I'm Teacher Fleet, and this is my seventh year teaching high school. I'm an AP Art History and AP Art and Design teacher, and am super happy to make my classroom resources available to the general public for free, because no one should have to pay money to do well on an exam. Please check the link for my course website to access more free additional resources, including notes templates and links to the slides used in the videos.
Now, for a disclaimer: I'm trying my best, but I don't have a Ph.D level understanding of 40,000+ years of art history (I majored in biology, for crying out loud). I try to limit the content of the videos to what students need to do well on the AP exam, so these lectures are not exhaustive in their coverage of these topics. Also: there are going to be mistakes (I recorded most of these at ~9:00 PM because I'm busy teaching during the day), but I'm more than happy to receive constructive criticisms and corrections if you're willing to give them.

the map (22:45} is not accurate as the Babylonians never succeeded in conquering Egypt
6:33 I take issue with this remark. Of course the artwork in the European sections is created by Europeans! There's nothing wrong with European people making artwork and having their own culture. I also have problems with referring to people as heterosexual before the term existed. Ancient Greek men could certainly not have been called heterosexual, and even after the advent of Christianity, men were considered to be what we would now call bisexual - it was assumed that men wanted to have sex with both men and women, but that they should resist the temptation to have non-sanctified (reproductive & within marriage) types of sex because it was supposedly sinful.
"Like a nerd" lmao
I am so waiting for Camille Paglias book on The Indigenous Americas art that she has been working on for the last decade . I am literally watching this to prepare for her book release!
thank you very very much
Thank you so much for these videos! I'm a sophmore taking AP Art History and was looking for some more resources, your channel is PERFECT. May your pillow always be cold at night💞💞
Isn't Menkaure the son of Khafre and grandson of Khufu, not the other way around? Thanks for the review video :)
Hi Ms Fleet, thank you so much for your amazing lectures. In the Las Meninas painting, Velasquez is painting the royal couple standing in front of him and whose image is being reflected in the mirror hanging on the wall in the background. I wish you all the best success in life 💐💐
I had to pause and check my dates about the pyramid construction! That is backwards. Biggest to smallest, which is part of the mystery of the pyramids.. why would they continue to decrease in size and complexity of design? Budget? Or less and less knowledge of the process. One would imagine that last pyramid to be the best.
I heartily disagree with the notion that the almost equal heights of the pharaoh and what must certainly be his queen (around 26:10) - indicate a nearly equal status. that is plain nonsense. while it is true that in the bas-reliefs and paintings they certainly do indicate hierarchy by making some figures of great importance tower over the lesser individuals, but in this case it is simply ridiculous to suggest that. this is a sculpture that is clearly of a Pharaoh and his queen. he is somewhat taller than her, that is all
It may be his mother thus equal, or equivalent in hierarchy of status.
In Egyptian royalty, the Queen was more important than the Pharaoh in significant respects, because inheritance was matrilineal.
I wonder if the "small dude" is carrying the pharaoh's stuff in the next life? poor fella, just can't catch a break!
Thank you ! Sir drew really recommended this❤❤
