Bleaching wood furniture? Try THIS instead!
I know you've thought about bleaching wood furniture, and maybe you've even googled how to bleach wood furniture with household bleach.
Can it be done? Probably. But today I'm sharing an alternative way to lighten wood without bleach. This is much safer, and uses products that were MADE to be used on wood and on furniture. Hopefully this can help you lighten wood or lighten wood furniture that you have at home, and can give you a modern, updated look to old orangey oak or other old wood furniture or kitchen cabinets that you have!
What I'm showing to day, is how to lighten wood without bleach using a white washing technique. We're making a paint wash with a 3:1 ratio of water to paint, and ...

    I only use Kutzit to strip my furniture. It’s liquid and I use steel wool and wipe it off with paper towels. I leave the paper towels out to dry then throw them away. It’s soooo much easier than gloopy stripper.

    Ditch the citristrip and just use acetone to get the finish off. I apply it with a merlon-type pad, scrub a little and quickly wipe off with a paper towl.

    • @KnowCanDo
      @KnowCanDo Месяц назад

      You could try it! But this had old finish on top of it. The paint mixture needs to sink into the wood grain. Finish is an impermeable layer that would make it hard for the paint mixture to adhere or sink in.

    Safety First! Great idea for telling everyone about products to keep yourself safe when refinishing furniture. I did not use proper procedures for this over the years and now I have a really bad chemical sensitivity. It's a wonder I don't have cancer. And the person below who commented about being careful with the rags used is absolutely correct. I never leave used rags indoors. You have done a great job on this dresser! It is beautiful! I can't tell you how many times this video came into my feed and I passed on it because as a woodworker and furniture maker of over 25 years I am so sick of seeing videos of people using OVEN CLEANER to strip wood. I honestly thought this was one of those videos. I like putting furniture or woodworking videos on in the background while I'm in my shop. This video played and I was so pleased to see that there was NO OVEN CLEANER. This video is right on the money. You did everything right from start to finish and I just want to thank you for putting informative content out that doesn't mislead people and doesn't destroy furniture. 👏👏👏👏

      I disagree. I use citristrip on all my furniture, and have not had that experience. I’m currently working on a that is a very light coloured wood, and it’s perfect. The original colour is not darkened at all.
