RIB Adventures🇮🇪 EP8 4k Trailer launching a RIB, Jameson's cove beach landing, boat & drone handling

This boat run is the story of 4 Dad's who head out to see exactly how much adventure can be had while still getting home in time for the school run. All manoeuvres are covered in this video as we make our way to a treacherous but beautiful little rocky cove for a good Coffee. The boat does suffer some small damage and we cover the fix. @@saschahohenberger7969 haven’t worked out an accurate figure for sustained cruise but it’s very low. Average consumption for a day out like this one is 8 - 10 litres. Most I ever burned in a day out was 18litres and that was the Jameson’s cove episode and that would have included a good bit of time at wide open throttle in the race to get home on time. This is a very economic setup.

      Thank you Davy. I appreciate the centiment of your question. I think the algorithm finds such the broad variety of subjects I post confusing. It’ll try showing a canoe trip to a camper and a camp trip to a boater, and so I take two steps forward and one step back. But it’s okay. I don’t do enough of either of those three to run whole channel for each subject. I’m just happy to make the videos I’m inspired to make and let the sub count be what it’ll be. I absolutely love making these things. Eventually I’ll end up with a subscriber pool who can tolerate my meandering interests and totally random publishing schedule, but there’s no rush 😂 The road is long. The algorithm doesn’t hold the key to my income as this is all done for fun, but I do think it is a good teacher to anyone interested in this craft. I’m always learning here.

The best boat of course is the one available to a person right now, but I must say my little RIB, albeit after too many years of planning, was exactly the one I wanted. That is to say exactly the combination of compromises I accept. The only one that came close was the highfield 540, not sold here, and the 'Bord a Bord' Divinis 540 all aluminium also would need to be imported. The latter has no tubes, just bare double hull unsinkable aluminium, that would last an eternity, but I was worried about resale. It's all about RIBS here. An all aluminium unpainted oxide protected boat would have been an oddity around here if I ever had to sell. Ahh, boats, sure we could talk forever, better off to just get going 😄

    • @VISTATREKKER
      @VISTATREKKER Месяц назад

      Thanks for the feedback. Genuinely appreciated. It has no fuel gauge but the fixed tank is 45litres and so far this trip was the most I’ve ever used in single a day at 18litres. I dip it with a wooden stick which I calibrated by filling the tank 10 litres at a time. My reserve tank is just a 20 litre plastic hand carry tank but it actually does have a float gauge, not to mention you can tell by the weight, so if I’m ever getting that tight I’ll have warning. Finally I have a 3rd 10litre can just for if I’m really losing track of myself someday😁 Also I have a syphon pipe which you see in one of the recent videos, I think the one listed as ‘speed trial’ with a bulb pump on it so that I can move fuel around safely and neatly if I ever have to do so at Sea. A gauge would certainly have prevented the issue you mentioned but equally my wooden stick could have done the same.

    Lovely trip and video. Thats what its all about! Those guide-ons are something i have been considering. How do you find them? Any disadvantage? Your recovery looked good considering the current

    • @VISTATREKKER
      @VISTATREKKER 2 месяца назад

      Thank you Denis. The guide poles I have are called floatem poles because the roller is buoyant and rises as the trailer descends in. The are immensely handy. Not just current but trying to launch into a tail wind running up the slip with waves breaking along the trailer as in the January Dawn trip in this series. To be honest I don’t understand how anyone does without them. Disadvantage is cost. These ones are beautifully welded and tough as you like but they are well over 200 sterling plus postage if I recall. I wasn’t going to bother until I put a scrape in the keel and that was that. The disadvantage is just that the lower elbow is sticking out wider than the wheel and also aft of it so it’s swinging wide as you turn which is worrisome on narrow roads particularly with high walkways either side that might catch it. In the end I’ve gotten used to treating the trailer as being that bit wider because it’s just essential to me to have them if I’m to launch and recover single handedly.

    • @denisryan4984

      @@VISTATREKKERthanks for the advice. I self launch/recover and have been mostly fine but I did struggle more recently recovering at Doolin pier. It was my first time using Doolin and conditions were tricky. No damage except my ego, lessons learned: guide poles needed. 😂

    • @VISTATREKKER
      @VISTATREKKER 2 месяца назад

      Nothing like trailer work to deliver a good old ego dent. Probably the fact that my trailer does not really have rollers makes the trailer a less welcoming route for the bow, however I am now as hooked as a 6 year old still using stabiliser wheels on the bike😂. Today I recovered from the same slip at low water meaning I had to go off the side of the slip to avoid the step at the end of it and so I went in by the sand beside the slipway and then winched it up onto the trailer. Same deal with current and wind ripping across the trailer and only one set of feet willing to get wet (even on Father’s Day) so the guide poles were a gift yet again.

      The Highfield 540 was the one I really wanted with the deeper V and stronger transom for 115hp, but there’s no dealer here in Ireland so I’ve ended up happy with this one as 100is enough and the hull is that little lighter, but I do love the highfield. It took me a while to find a good wheel knob but it’s essential in my mind. Some knobs arrived from Amazon the size of a peanut. I’ll attach the link for mine below. Thanks Denis, appreciate your feedback, propellers seem to be a real science with too many variables to be able to afford to try them all, yet to get it right that’s what you would need to do for each new hull. All I changed was reducing pitch from 21 to 19, but then there’s diameter in fractions and number of blades, which is surely right for me at 3, but still if she’s not burning too much and we can have the craic I reckon we’re good. My hull and boat are not really optimised for too much speed either.

      🤣 yes, yes it was all in the interests of science of course, though I think my speed test sample may need to be expanded to provide me with a more robust data set, after all I made no account of the breeze or trim. Naturally such research may involve further coffee brakes on any passing islands I may find.

    How is the build quality? is there max engine weight? Great content mate! Keep it up

    • @VISTATREKKER
      @VISTATREKKER 2 месяца назад

      Not sure about weight but the limit is 100hp unlike the high field 540 which is 115. If you look at the transom area in the high field it’s more substantial but the hull weighs more. This is only 400kg. The welds on my hull are a thing of beauty. I can lie under the trailer and look at those welds and it relaxes my mind into a transcendental state they are so gorgeous. (As aluminium welding goes that is) The welding on the deck housings is of a lower standard. Where they are ground off to finish the welds you can see this work beneath the paint as the sun shines on it but it’s not immediately apparent in passing. It’s relatively complex metal work though and I guess moulded fibreglass will always be more polished. Ironically though the utilitarian look is all part of the appeal to me though. I’m glad this thing looks like it’s here to do a job. The high field has a deeper V which I would have preferred but the hull welding often looks shoddy and lumpy. It may just be that the deeper v is harder to form in plate metal. In any case this hull was the only aluminium hull available here. The finish of the workshop who assembles the final package is also a consideration of course. You might wish to view their work before you decide. Aluminium is a great material. Light. Tough. Durable. 100% recyclable. The last bit was specifically important to me.
