Btw the Stardew Valley Cookbook is ADORABLE and so well written! The pictures are so cozy and the artwork is absolutely charming! I've been DYING to bake the famous "pink cake" since I started playing Stardew years ago, and I am so happy this cookbook came out so I finally could! It was DELICIOUS!!! I can't wait to make the chocolate cake someday soon. I'm sure I'll post about it on my instagra...

How to balance art with your full time job | 6 tips & advice

Here are my best tips and tricks to finding a balance between your full time job and art. It's funny because I filmed this video back in December (if you couldn't tell by the Christmas tree) and my thoughts and perspective have changed quite a bit on becoming a full time artist. I feel like I see so many full time artists come to resent creating art because it is tied to their job. And I really...

I sometimes get sad because of climate change/warming that I feel like it snows less, so I'm trying to enjoy the snow when it actually happens! Monet bio read from Wikipedia lol ...

    I feel like this video applies to musicians as well! In the past, as a student then free-lancer relying on someone else’s income, I was able to perform much more often. Now as a full time public school teacher, I have little time/energy/motivation for gigs and I take the ones I can handle and otherwise just play for myself. 🎶 🖼️

      I’m so happy as musician you were able to find this relatable! It truly is harder to balance your passions and hobbies once you get a full time job. But I’m glad you’re finding time to play just for yourself! That’s so important!

    I also love baking and art and biking, but have been having a hard time making myself do those things despite the fact that i feel much better when I do. One thing that I've gotten into for the first time lately is building lego sets and making little book nook model things. It's hands-on but requires little brain power, so it makes it much easier to get into after a long day at work, but it still feels more creative than just watching tv or playing a video game does. I'd recommend picking up something like that; the tacticle feedback has been wonderful for my mental state.

    • @emhaggsart
      @emhaggsart 24 дня назад

      This is great advice!!! I’ve been thinking about Lego sets and book nooks! They look so cute and fun! I just struggle with having stuff accumulate. I don’t have a big living space. Do you have advice how to display them efficiently or storage them?

    • @mpdursidae7033
      @mpdursidae7033 24 дня назад

      @@emhaggsart book nook models are actually great for that; they only take up about 4 inches of a bookshelf so they're very compact when completed! You could probably get away with floating shelves for some of the smaller Lego sets; their newer floral line has a great ratio of number of pieces to size of completed product. the other great thing about Lego sets is that you can always take them apart and rebuild them later, so if you keep the box and instructions you could maybe cycle some in and out if you don't have more than a couple shelves to display them. if you go that route, make sure that as you disassemble them, you follow the instructions in reverse order and put the pieces in Ziploc bags numbered according to the directions. That way it's still easy to assemble again later!

    • @emhaggsart
      @emhaggsart 23 дня назад

      All great to know!!! Thank you so much!!! Do you have a go to brand of book nook kits?

    • @mpdursidae7033
      @mpdursidae7033 23 дня назад

      @@emhaggsart so I've only completed one (I'm currently working on a second), but they're two different brands because I bought what was available at a local toy store. The first one I did that got me into them is called Mole's Apartment by the brand CuteBee, and I'm currently assembling one called Magic House by Rolife. I think I somewhat prefer the CuteBee one because it's made of more of a MDF-type material, while the Rolife one is very thin plywood, which can kind of flake apart a bit. The Rolife one also had a few windows that were kind of annoying to construct, but tbh that may be more a factor in the subject than the brand itself (Mole's Apartment didn't have any windows to get annoyed with, while Magic House is a street with magic shops that have a translucent printed film that you put tiny LED lights behind). Both had easy to follow instructions and have been fun, so I'd take a look at both brands and pick a design that speaks to you!

    Finally someone with some relatable and legitimate art advice. I started to really dislike watching videos that give art advice bc it’s like those ppl expect everyone to be able to post a drawing on instagram every single day or even more content on other social medias. It literally takes me days to finish just 1 drawing let alone grow my audience on top of that.

    It feels nice to hear an artist tell you it's okay if you can't do art right now or back then. I have felt detached from the title artist because when I was younger I could give my all into art. I was so inspired! Fast forward to most of my adulthood, I had to put it on the backburner for my line of work. I had nothing to give. Now that I'm trying to transition into a new career, I have a little bit more to give. Although sometimes it does feel like what's the point because I wasted so many years to improve. This video felt like advice from a good friend. Thank you <3 I think I might try small canvas and sketchbooks.

    • @emhaggsart
      @emhaggsart Месяц назад

      I can relate to this so much. When I worked in customer service for five years, that’s when I took my two year art break and was hardly making art at all. I too didn’t get back into it until I switched careers. And when I did I definitely felt far behind and like I wasted time when I could’ve been improving. Especially when you see people younger than you being more talented and successful. It’s such a cliche but I LOVE the saying “the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is today.” You can always say I wish I did this or that differently, but it doesn’t change the present. And it’s never too late to explore your art or improve. And at the end of the day, your enjoyment making art is way more important than improving anyway. Thank you so much for your comment and kind words!!! ❤️ best of luck ❤️

Weekends are tough as they are mostly filled with keeping my child busy and catching up with chores. I was debating on going to a smaller format of sketchbooks and your video has convinced me to do so. thank you for the video, these are great tips!! this video was randomly recommended to me by youtube & i’m so glad i found it! i struggle a lot with comparing my (a full-time 40hr/week worker, with a 2 hour commute every day) output to a full-time creator’s output, and it can really take a toll on my self-esteem. the tip about following smaller creators i feel is going to be an amazing life-changer! you’re right, if it’s impacting your mental health badly, unfollowing or muting certain big creators for a bit might just be for the best. i’m in the process of figuring out a strategy to maybe batch-film videos on a specific day/weekend of the month, so the other weekends are free for resting/seeing friends/doing fun stuff! i’m also thinking of organising a few “smaller creator shares” on social media specifically to find other amazing creators who are on the same schedule as me, hopefully that works out! will check out some of your other videos! ❤

    What helps me (I work as a GP for about 30 hours a week and have 4 children, and more hobbies than I can count 😁) is just calling myself an artist. No matter how much (or how little) time I spend creating, I am an artist. Making it part of my identity makes me feel good somehow. I'm an artist when I'm on my bike to work and admiring the landscape. I'm an artist when choosing what to wear, when cooking and when cleaning. I bring my artistic skills to all aspects of my life.

    Fellow small art tuber here! Thank you so very much for making this video! Funnily I've found many of the tips you shared I have been doing my entire working life, working small, setting stuff out before hand, just doing a bit at a time, switching mediums, etc. It's all spot on but even so, felt reassuring to me to actually hear someone else talking through needing to do those same things. I work a corporate job that has zero artistic creativity, it's highly demanding mentally and physically for me because of my chronic illnesses and pain. On weeks like this one, when so many fires at work are happening and the pressure is high and I am exhausted and having flare ups, art can feel pretty impossible and the doubt or fear of things "always being like this so what's the point?" creep in. Your words today have brought me to a place of peace and acceptance for where I am right now, and I am deeply grateful ❤ Excited to check out your other videos now too, thank you again so much! -Shaina

      Hi Shaina! Thank you so much for the lovely comment and sharing your story ❤️❤️❤️ it’s great to hear that these tips resonated with you and are some things you already put to practice! Your work situation sounds very challenging, especially with layoffs happening. That sounds very stressful. I can very much relate to the thought that it feels like it may never change, that work will feel that way forever. I’m very much going through those feelings with my job right now. You’re absolutely right that everything is temporary and I hope your work gets less stressful soon! Thank you again for all the kind words, hang in there, and be easy on yourself! ❤️

    This was a necessary reminder lol, I have 1-3 art projects going on all the time and get lost in the hustle of it instead of the joy of making it… all well-said, thank you for posting this as a fellow 40 hour work week artist! I feel like the added typical artist struggle of depression etc adds more to the mountain of space in your mind. One at a time, being realistic with yourself… solid advice! I especially love connecting with other small creators and comparing our experiences and cheering each other on

    Hey this is awesome!! I’ve been wanting to start making new RUclips videos but it’s been so hard to fit them in amongst all the house work, keeping up with my health, local art commissions, and family stuff. I feel lately like I’ve even been failing at some of that stuff too 😅 the sad part is that I stay at home while my husband works, so I have it a lot easier than if I had a full time or even part time job on top of all this. I’m pretty sure I’d collapse lol. Thanks for making this video. It makes me feel better about not being able to do all 20 things a day I have on my to do list. I’ve subscribed also!!!

    • @emhaggsart
      @emhaggsart Месяц назад

      I’m so glad this video helped you feel better and to also have you as a new subscriber!!! Welcome! Happy to have you ❤️ staying at home is still full time work so don’t undersell yourself!!! And it sounds like you have a lot going on otherwise as well. Starting a RUclips channel is a lot of work but it can be so rewarding. My advice for that is find a realistic upload schedule that works for you. Don’t try to do something crazy like a video a week if you know you’ll fall off of that after just a few weeks. And it might be the case that all the art you make is just for RUclips right now and that’s okay. Maybe you can film creating your local art commissions? Anyway I hope you’re able to find a balance that is fulfilling artistically but also allows you to be human! ❤️

      Such a good and valid point! I totally agree with you, and part of that is finding what works for you as cliche as that is to say. I also have a video on posting to Instagram that may help! For me, I hate filming process videos for reels. So that’s a dealbreaker for me. So when I posted reels last year I did mainly reveal videos. I follow a lot of artists who don’t even post reels and make it work. So find what works for you! And be easy on yourself ❤️

    This is so helpful - even if I know a bunch of these things in my brain, having someone else say them makes it all feel....more legitimate? Not sure that's the word I want but I'm glad that this isn't another video preaching hustling til to drop or go full time.

      I’m so happy this was helpful for you! That’s exactly what I was going for. I never wanted to preach that people aren’t working hard enough or that they NEED to be a full time artist. I think there’s so much pressure for us all to make our art either a side hustle or our main hustle, and I think it’s so harmful.
