Really getting into hand painting now, but I hate Adobe, and substance painter's hand painting feels kinda bad with no proper color picker at hand (by holding alt for example, god it would make everything so much smoother) Am a student, and I have license for substance painter for rest of my studies, but after that I won't pay such atrocious price per month to keep using it, as long as I haven't found a steady income. so am looking for alternatives, 3Dcoat looks really good, was it a hassle to setup for hand painting and overall how would you rate it's hand painting capabilities and well other 3D texturing capabilities too compared to other software. or are there good enough free alternatives I should try out?

Hey mate I had a question, with an asset like this would it have been better in hindsight to model closer to the end painted shape to maximise UV space or does it not matter so much with handpainted textures?

Can somebody tell me how to select, duplicate and move an object in 3D Coat? Gosh why does it have to be so complicated

Do your artstation courses also cover greyscale creation or do you use colors from the start? I think the greyscale approach is very flexible and would love to explore it more.

Texturing has been my weakest point as I've found it very clunky in most programs, but every time i see these or tomkek's videos, it's all steps I can definitely do, or at least follow to a less impressive extent. A question though, is should the highlights/shadows be also in the normal map or players just won't realize the fact that the light doesn't change orientation?

This was awesome. I can find many tutorials for this career path, which are super important dont get me wrong, but right now the wisdom of industry artist feels most needed. Phillip was a great guest and I really appreciated his philosophical answers. I'd love to hear from character artist too!
