Does Michelin have the cheapest truck tires?
Hey how are those mpgs lately? Any new updates on your truck? Have learned a lot from you.
Thanks, I'm glad you got something out of the videos. That gives me a drive to make new videos. This 2019 is doing good on fuel, better than my 2014. I hit a new high with the 2019, it did 11mpg for a 30-day average. Is truck 4161 if you want to follow it on fuel gauges
Ever thought of holding the screw while ya tighten the nut so the setting doesn't change?
I thought about that. It usually changes a little in the final torque with a socket and a torque wrench, so you won't be able to hold it.
Are you still getting 10 to 11mpg driving slow?
Yes, the truck is doing good. I'm on my way to California, my last two fill ups have been 12.8 and 12.5
Very cool mpgs. How were you able to connect the extra skirt piece to the original or are they mounted separately?
Thanks! The new piece of skirt comes with two mounts, I overlapped the skirts and bolted them together.
Turn the motor off as often as you can.
That's right.
I know you have a newer truck now but on your old truck did you have a Fleet Air filter or just the regular OEM filter. I looking at a ex Wally World truck at the minute with the DD15, 10 speed manual with 2:47 rears . It’s a 6X4 and has new recaps on it now but I’ll run them down and put super wide rims and tires on then. I sold my 18 Cascadia in 22 which had a DD13 and DT12 direct with 2:93 rears . My 30 day when I sold her was 9.3 running in the NE . It was a mid roof with a cap but my trailer gap was way to big as it had a 40 inch sleeper. I messed up in that sense but never went over 55mph unless going down a little hill. Appreciate the info.
I've always used paper air filters. If you can run slow that 2.47 will be fine. My truck is a 2.41, I try to run 57 or 58 all I can, sometimes I go up to 65. My 30 day average is 10.72, so I can't complain. If Money was no object, I would be looking at some old Prime trucks with a 2.16 rear gear.
@@jptransport8830 my old truck was an ex Prime from their light weight fleet. Was looking at them but their prices are not in my orbit at the minute even though they have 500k miles .
@@flyingpaddy7525 Exactly. That's why I bought the truck that I did. It's what I could afford. Nussbaum also has some great trucks. I bought my last two trucks at Joplin Freightliner.
This stuff works. I know Bruce sounds like a Snake oil salesman when he is on with Rutherford but he is right about this product. I run it in everything. My car, lawn tractor chainsaws etc. I run a company truck now and told the boss man about it and we run it in all the tractors now. Cummins X15 pulling 120k gross of logs and equipment and no check engine lights and no parked regen’s. Glad to see you back on here as you have some great info without the drama.
Hey, thanks. I'm on my 2nd Gal. No problems so far, I've put around 45 on my new truck.
$175 for a gallon? You must have gotten the winterized version of it 😂, which that does exist. The gallon of regular max mileage is like $260 not including tax. It's expensive, but it does work. I've ran it for a while, and coming off the highway from running full speed, i used to get the High Temperature Exhaust light come on, but running max mileage, it happens very rarely. When sitting idling for a while, my regens went from 20 minutes or so to 5 minutes or less. And I would fill my DEF tank up about once a week. Without running it, I'd have to fill about twice a week.
Oops. I meant to say $275. I bought it on the road down in Austin so, I had to pay a little extra. I'm on my 2nd Gal now, I've put around 45K on the truck and haven't had any problems.
I love these things. They look so cool. I would want them on my truck just because they look super cool and help your wheels stay clean. A little harder to pre-trip, but then less rust on the bolts. Any suggestions? Is it really worth it? I had them on the company's Cascadia 126 and that thing was getting over 9mph. Not sure if it was thanks to these things.
I think they are worth it because every little bit helps. I have the whole system on my trailer as well. I have a different truck now and transferred them over. They are a well made product, I've been running them for five years and they are doing great.
How in hell does it lower egt yet the cylinder fuel burn is hotter to burn the carbon in cylinders? It makes no sense.
It is making a cleaner more efficient burn. I would think that it could lower EGT's if you don't have unburned fuel going out.
This was helpful. I do the same things and have been looking into other things as well
Good deal, I'm glad you liked it.
I do have duals on my truck at the moment. When the time comes for tire change, I wanna swap them to super singles. Do I need to convert something on the axle to run those tires?
No. You shouldn't need to. Just make sure you get the wheels with 0 offset.
@@jptransport8830 thank you man!
@@jptransport8830 found a set dirt cheap but they are 2 inches off set... is it too bad?
I have a 2019 cascadia. Our engines are the same. Your transmission is dt 12 1750 dh1 and mine is dt12 1550 dh1. I'm not %100 sure but I believe it's the torque spec. And my ratio is 2.47. My axles are meritor. Wheelbase is 225. These are the differences I noticed. I have a great dane dryvan. No aerodynamic parts on it. No side skirts, no tail, no lift axle no nothing. My january average is 7.14 mpg with 11500miles driven. Had 2 loads with 75k lbs gross weight and the others were all under 65k lbs gross. And february is 7.68 with 7800miles so far. Trying to lower that number. I have just started tracking my numbers by the new year. I cruise at 65mph. I started to collect aerodynamic parts. Got flowbelow kit used. Didn't install yet coz the rear mounting brackets are missing. I only installed the tire covers. Looking for rear mounting brackets. When I find them I'll install the flowbelow kit. Also will install the side skirts to my trailer as a first thing. Trying to lower the numbers by getting good condition used parts. I don't wanna go crazy. Do you think going from 2.47 to 2.41 would make a big difference? And I want to thank you for sharing these valuable information. Useful videos. Drive safe 🙏
Thanks, I appreciate it. I don't think it would make any difference going from 2.47 to 2.41. 2.47 is what all the Walmart trucks are running. The biggest thing is slowing down if you can, I just hauled a 43k load from Texas back to Indiana and I was right at 9mpg, but for the most part I was driving 58mph because I wasn't in a hurry. If you can get the rpm under 1200 that's what those trucks like.
@jptransport8830 thanks. This truck is from averitt. And I liked it so far. It's been 2 months. Want to keep it for long time. I got a very light load from Minneapolis, MN to Seattle, WA. I'm driving with 55mph. But unfortunately I'm facing against high wind and my today's average is 6.8mpg. I'll get the side skirts and flow below installed asap. :)
What about not carrying a full load of fuel if you don’t need it?
The lighter you are the better, but I can only hold 200 gal.
Is the Turbonator turbo a scam product? The RUclips video says 10-18% fuel savings.
Yes, I would say that is a scam. I'm not sure what it is.
I have one of these on my 07 Corolla, I love it! Obviously not comparable but if I drive light and 70 on the interstate I can get about 45 mpg.
I think one of my favorite trips to have it was heading from flagstaff to Albuquerque, I had a tail wind and cruise set at 83, was getting something crazy like 43 mpg haha
Haha I had the same car, I was a great little car.
Your foot will never be as fuel efficient as modern day cruise control and thats been proven over and over.
You might be right about that. I just bought a new truck and that's what it seems.
On Freightliners, sure. But when I got stuck in an International, the cruise control would actively sabotage my fuel economy. Slowing down before slight hills, forcing me to pedal down to get back to speed. Speeding up at the crest of a hill, forcing me to brake and burn off that energy. Quite literally the opposite of how a Freightliner works in cruise.
Do you run tandems or singles? Enjoying all of your mpg content. I can't understand why every driver isn't an mpg fanatic. It means money in your pocket. Thanks. You've got a good channel. Edit: Singles. I just watched your tire vid.... LoL
I appreciate it! I run wide singles on my trucks and duals on the trailers.
I can’t remember if you said it in other videos for your trailer but if you don’t have a nose cone on the front of your trailer you should get one
I have a nose cone on one of my trailers, I would like to buy another one.
You guys should check out the talk on overdrive with Henry Albert Clark reed and I forgot the other guys name but that guy runs a truck that he gets his roms down under 1000 rpms but that’s on fairly flat ground
I listen to Henry on Kevin Rutherford's podcast on Fridays. He's a smart guy!
That mileage is crazy bro! Can you please do a video on how little things add up and you can get that type of mileage?
Thanks! Sure I can make a video about that.

Looks like your all set up for whatever comes your way. Thanks for the video. Be safe Driver 🙏🏻

Nice
Thanks!
I'm going to try to get good mpg just to see how good I can get at it (for the money as the incentive) (I never used to care about mpg in my career) My plan/advice so far is: watch the mpg gauge on the dash (volvo's have em) stay light on the pedal - pretend you're hauling a load that is twice as heavy as the load you're hauling in terms of how slow it goes up hills, roll down every hill in neutral, & keep the 5th wheel set forward/close to the cab if weight allows it.
Good deal. Slowing down is the single biggest thing you can do without spending any extra money.
Aero is king. I recall a study where gaps over 18 inches begin to create significant drag. (Coincidentally, this is also the exact gap I need to make a 90° jackknife.) The tandems follow this same rule! That ~9 foot gap when the tandems are fully back is akin to dragging a parachute behind you.
Do you run super singles on your trailer ?
No, not yet. I plan to in the future.
@@jptransport8830 do you cap your super singles on the drive position?
@@ac-ir9gs No. I don't run any caps, I just turn them in for casing credit.
@@jptransport8830 thank you! Deciding what to do. I have another year to decide.
@@ac-ir9gs you're welcome
Would running super singles on the trailer help with MPG ?
Yes, it would help. My plan is to take the wheels and tires off of the old truck and put them on the trailer. I want a tire psi monitor system for the trailer.
On super singles you have less rubber touching the road and you're less likely to pick up debris based on surface area. That's math kinda. Not tech knowledge. In 5 years driving I've only done maybe 2 or 3 emergency on my tractor and 6 including trailers which are company trailers. But I like to pick junk out of my tires. OCD type fun.
Would you be willing to tell me exactly what your miles per hour are at 1300 RPMs in 12th gear?
Sure, it is 64mph if you have lowpro 22.5 tires.
@@jptransport8830 thank you. That’s weird though because I have 2.28 rear ends and at 1300 RPM. I’m also at 64 mph on 295 low pros. I wonder why. I have the exact same truck you do
@@uria711 I'll check it tomorrow, I'm on my 34 hour break. When I get rolling I'll check it to be sure.
@@jptransport8830 awesome thank you so much
I checked it today, it's 63 mph
Please give us an update on the DT-12 after more miles and hills and snow/wet. I lean towards a manual because I can control what gear I select. I drove an ultra-shift for a few months and hated it in 2013. I think I could get better mpg than a computer because of tricks of when to coast/throttle. You are a champ at that so, I await your opinion. Thanks for the info and good luck this year!
I can do that. I drove an ultra shift and they aren't very good, the DT 12 is much better. The cool thing about this transmission is it has a feature called E coast, when it knows you have enough momentum to make it over the hill it will go into neutral and coast over the other side.
I have heard of E-coast but I'll put more faith in your mpg numbers. I drove @60 mph and would coast down hills in gear as long as; clear lanes, I could see the bottom of the hill, dry weather, and I had been down that hill before, No fear going 75 or a little more if my rules were met. Does e-coast turn on the jakes and put you back in gear? OR put you in Neutral and rev to 100MPH on a Mountain?@@jptransport8830

Hey brotha…. Good stuff man, but i think you’re missing the tab locker washer. It’s better than the small Allen bolt
I had to think about that, that video is from several years ago. I guess that's how they built it. I still have that trailer, it hasn't fallen off yet haha!
I’m glad you’re using profit gages! It’s a great accounting system I’ve been using it for about nine years,I recommend it to everyone I know but you would be surprised how many people just don’t care to know their numbers. The best part about tracking your numbers is that every year your profit per mile goes up.
Yes, I love it. I've been using it since 2015.
Been watching some of your videos, subscribed, excellent work
Thanks, I appreciate it!
How can u adjust your 5th wheel to close gap between trailer and tractor and how do u know if to close is too close
My truck has a sliding 5th wheel. When I have a heavy load it needs to be slid back some. Other than that it's just turning clearance.
The cascadia evolution recorded the highest mpg in testing phase...ot was 10. Something
I wonder what kind of weight it was pulling?
JP what are your truck specs?
His spec is ; 2.50 rear, 10 speed direct drive, super single, 6x2 drives. And lots of aero add ons.
Yep, he's got it.
Could you make a video about where you got the skirt for the front of the trailer. Been looking and havnt found anything. did you cut your back mud flap brackets? How did you cut them? I cut some off the bottom of my mudflap.
Sure, I can make a video about that.
Please give informational video on where you get all the areo items, especially the passenger side faring for covering landing gear.
Sure, I can do that. You might want to check out some of my newer videos, I've changed several things since then.
