i think sodium-ion batteries are promising, but they have significant drawbacks such as low energy density, limited life cycle, low ionic conductivity. Beside those, graphite, which is most common and cheapest electrode material in lithium ion batteries, performs poorly in sodium ion batteries. So the scientists should find new electrode material and finding new one can be way expensive. Therefore, in the near future i stead of lithium we can see potassium ion batteries which is as much cheap as sodium, as safe as solid state batteries and open to developments

We need to move away from lithium based batteries and focus on sodium ones being less polluting to produce and recycle. For range, lets go towards hydrogen then. But producing enough electricity is the problem especially from a source that is clean. Having BEVs charged by fossil based power stations does not even reach 40 % efficiency barely more then the 35 % of gasoline and a lot less then the 50% of diesel engines (Peugeot, VW or Renault). There is a lot to do now.

Range increases are great but the fist and biggest issue with other than Tesla brands is charging, Teslas are far easier to charge and the amount of working chargers keeps you on the road. Rang increases are great but it’s nothing if you end up behind a CVS near the dumpster with your expensive EV.

comparing EPA range to CLTC range is like you are trying to compare apples to melons. The truth is that the Shenxing plus LFP has an energy density of around 200 wh/kg. Compared to the first gen LFP from CATL/BYD that was/is used in Tesla model y RWD, which had/has around160 wh/kg, it means that this battery would have a 20% increase in energy density, and thus, ideally 20% increase in range. That is the ideal scenario. So. from around 225 miles on EPA (the newest version of the EPA testing cycle) range to around 275 miles.

LOL this solid state batteries as Toyota has being doing for years and is still a long way off. LFP already has very high density batteries which is getting higher every six months so OEMs have a long way to catch up. Tesla is still 10 years ahead of the game. :)

Toyota and others have been working on Solodstate battery technology for a long time without reaching a combination of high power density, high cycle life and low cost. Doing 1 of 3 is not hard, doing 2 of 3 is challenging doing 3 of 3 is extremely difficult.

Toyota is at a considerable disadvantage because the price of any new technology must be low cost. The airline industry will put Toyota to shame with it's Sulphur-Selenium battery tech that uses Lithium only in it's anode and Lithium/ Graphene cathode (where lithium is the charge carrier which allows for solid high temperature capable electrolyte in place of lithium gel cells because the airline industry can defray the expensive battery technology ny virtue of the mass transportation business model. We will see who wins this race.
