In NC any red drum over 27 inches has to be released. You can keep 1 red drum, between 18-27 inches.

The back creeks and marshes all up and down Elizabeth River and Lynn Haven all have fiddlers out now. You can get fiddlers at Oceans East, Wallace's and Princess Anne Distributors.

I'll work on another video to talk through the different set ups. Definitely want to help folks catch fish. For this type of fishing we usually use 12-13ft xhvy rods with baitcasting reels, 17-20lb test. Standard surf fishing to catch a variety of fish we usually use 9-10 ft medium spinning and casting rods with 14-17lb test. Search fish finder rigs and hi-lo rigs.

Sorry we missed ya. Definitely a great bite! We've been out before where we miss it by a day or 2. This time we finally got it right. The worst is getting out there then the conditions change. I probably would've caught a lot more if I just fished instead of trying to film it all. But it ended up being great for my son haha. Thanks for the comment. Usually between March and April we look for consistent South winds that warm the water to between 60-65. It's a known migration that happens every spring. The hard part is timing up the conditions when you can get off work and be out there when the drum schools come through.

We run 20 main line and 40 shock leader. Lots of guys run 15-20 main and 40-50 shock leader. The hook bite leader we usually use 80-100.

Thanks for the comment. We do the popping corks up here as well. On this river the paddletails are definitely a "go-to" technique. It's great learning different techniques from all corners of the world. Good luck and tight lines. Hope you wear em out your next trip out.

@@letsrolloutdoors no popping cork for trolling, we do tear em up on a gulp shrimp or bad shad trout trick under a popping cork though. Clark Spoons do some good work too. Prolly gonna try some paddle tails this weekend and see how it fairs to the grubs. We got in em pretty good last Saturday.

Yessir. 2023 was a good run for shrimp in New River areas.

We've caught drum on everything. I think that day the drum were caught using mullet. Mullet, whiting, bluefish and menhaden are my favorites.
