I still have mine, bought new in ‘84…..it is a great unit
9 years ago this guy made a video about a pedal that I wanted to buy and today I finally got it, just revisiting the video that got me into this pedal im the first place
Ty🎉
This was a great video. I had just bought a Rhodes MK2, paperwork and some of the hardware was accidentally left behind but will ship soon. So far its and incredible experience to play..
These are great pianos ... I sold them brand new, and loved that stereo pulsing vibrato. If they have any downside, it is in that the amps are a bit underpowered.
First sound examples are around 8:00 minute.
I just got an FR-8L today very similar to yours. I wanted to let people know that although these aren't programable by the beat, they're very programable in other ways. Between styles and tempo and with individual controls over the hi hat, cymbal/Snare and Kick you can quickly get this thing to play along with anything from Folk to disco. I'm going to use it to lay vintage sounding drum tracks to covers I wanna do. I also plan on using it to come up with new songs. The start/stop button on these allows you to come in exactly when you want to, so this combined with the mobility options you have with a DAW would make this perfect for any drum programming if you didn't mind a little extra work when you wanna add random fills. I might post a video about mine, but I'm having to much much playing with it at the moment. LOL
So in many ways you can create specific beats. So it is "kinda" programable in an analog sort of way? I just bought one to go with future home recordings I'm going to make as well as some classic rock covers. Sounds great!
Bought my MKI 73 (same as your’s) from a Cover band 30 years ago. The price was 60$. everbody went digital those days - except me😂
I have a 71’ 88 key Rhodes
It’s a wonderful instrument. I wish they still made it.
you have scoliosis?
I just got a 73 suitcase from 1977 from Reverb (ship from the US was surprisingly low for under 500 bucks esp seeing how big and heavy it is). I paid 2250 for it. It has corrosion on spots, needs amp maintainance, and the amp case has been used very much so I got a lower price than originally listed. That sounds high, but here in Europe working models go for 4-7k depending on the model and year of build. Just because everyone needs one in their home/studio. I know I do 😂
Patrice Rushen. JAZZ. R&B. FUNK 😊
Hi, does you stage 73 from 75 have any modifications or just stock? It sound awesome, thanks!!
If I won the lottery I’d definitely buy a Rhodes…….oh and a B3
I just purchased a MK2, Great shape and love it…
Is ok to plug the rhodes on a guitar tube amplifier?
Yes. It doesn’t sound as good as going direct (A rhodes has a much wider desireable frequency spectrum than a guitar amp), but many people do it, and some even think it’s the way it’s supposed to be. (They are missing out, though)
Aaand I use it
I have both an Ibanez and Maxon DM1000. Both that the sticker on top.
Thank you for actually playing the thing. Unlike James Pavel bloody Shawcross who is seemingly unwilling to play a single note and instead just talks incessantly.
um its a bit to expensive but i get this pedals deliverance by adding a lot of pedals get same effect from a booster and particle reverb , swell gain and mix and the 35£ cheapest tape echo pedal out there and a pedal pitch with bend what dose it deliver Gilmour sound pink Floyd as well as dub music mine however has space atmosphere that swells around your leads and your leads echo off the swells in harmony as for the boss tape delay good for reverb again a one trick poney it offers one type of many many reverbs for the price common you can do it its expected at that price
Incredible video thanks for putting this together
...Naja-schoene Spielkiste mit Buggettbrigade, ich liebe mein Yamaha D1500/MIDI.Das ist digital und nun schon uralt...😂😂😂😎💆💖😯⛄⛄⛄
Great for live stuff but I was sad to see they went the "clean and sterile" BBD route, unlike the EP-3 clone MXR did that allowed for dirt, wear and grit (which sounds killer in the studio). The RE-20 self oscillation is spot on though, love that! I made a quick video about theem here if interested: ruclips.net/video/RFNa6cqx5ps/видео.html
thanks so much for a super super helpful video - huge service you've done me :) love yr work
Please play Just the Way you Are by Billy Joel!!!!!!
Hi, sounds so good! what are the effects units you use? Thanks
yeah but why is your mic so hot
Witam potrzebuję zasilacz do takiego pianina
They’re so much more expensive nowadays
$1500 would be record breaking cheap around here.
I'd like to say, you did a great review. This has been a great tool in leering how to use this. I just recently grabbed one, and this has been extremely helpful. Well thought out and executed in such a way it has driven me to use this in so many different ways I probably would not have, if I had not seen this video. Bravo... 8 years later, and it's still helping people!
Riders on the Storm by The DOORS is played on a Fender Rhodes Mark1 1969-1974 ..?
You described the Yamaha DX7 as a cheap polysynth??? You're kidding right?
It is a cheap polysynth. It goes for around 1/15th of a rhodes around here at least;-)

I have a question, what if I use both mix and invert-mix outputs? Do they work stereo together? Or do they both sound just the same and equally?
They work as fake stereo.
@@HenritheHorse thank you 🤝🏻
Thanks a lot for this! I was confused about the two outputs and their function. Thanks indeed!
And Bob James, of course. And Bob Mayo, for that matter...
When I hear a Rhodes, I think of Billy Preston and Mr. Roger's. 😜
I have a Rhodes Mark 1 Suitcase. I've been wondering when it was made. It has vibrato with the on/off switch and treble and bass sliders. I'm thinking '78 or '79, maybe '77. What do you think?
Had an awesome warm sound that stays in your head...could never be replicated.
What amp do you use with your rhodes?
randomly bought one a few years ago and now it's the base of my setup. excellent tutorial btw.
Brilliant and passionate demo and discussion.
for the money ill get 2 and have it stereo. sounds awesome.
I got this and DM1100 for that! Just got a second DM1100 too, but it was broken.
The Rhodes sounds pretty anemic running direct in, would sound a lot better through a nice pre with a bit of EQ. Ibanez delay sounds cool though ..........
Wait! What???? Long mode.......Who Knew???
Great Video !! Pleasekeep making more such informative videos. I recently did a KEF Q150 Bookshelf speakers review on my channel. link for your suggestions and to learn from you, ruclips.net/video/IasdvlDNzJw/видео.html
Everybody gets this wrong: The Treble and Bass knob do NOT affect the Reverb, but the Delay only! That’s what can be heard easily and that’s what the manual says!
Thanks for this in-depth video. I just bought one.
Thanks for making and posting this video! I love that it’s so thorough and has no ads 🙂 Kudos for your effort
