    If its any consolation, this is the first ive heard of j1407b, so the truth reached me before the misinformation. I can see why the myth spread, 'super saturn' makes for a snappy headline. Its a shame because it being a stillborn solar system that we only know about because for a single moment it casted a shadow where we happened to be looking is cool as hell.

    Very late comment so I doubt you’ll see it but I just wanted to say that this is an excellent video, I hadn't seen any of your content before so clicking on it I expected it to be just a quick “fun fact: this popular depiction of a planet is inaccurate, bye” but you really used this example perfectly as an avatar for the main problems with modern science communication. Very direct, clearly explained and easy to follow points. I also really appreciate the whole level-headedness of the video, such a good contrast to precisely the kind of attitude you talked about. In regards to the planet I use to spent hours marveling at it in space engine but to save a little bit of my ego I was always suspicious that it’s rings were probably way to large to be gravitationally stable and the whole planet was probably based purely on speculation, I’m a bit proud to see my instincts were right. Anyways, great video all around, I’m glad to have found it.

    Two simple question to gave everyone something to think about and some existencial dread: *What's it's worse, a finite universe or a infinite one?* *And, it's scarier that we might be alone in the universe or that it might be something/someone else out there?*

    • @Kyplanet893
      @Kyplanet893 5 часов назад

      i personally don’t really care about question 1 because either way we’ll never reach the end, the observable universe alone is too big and for 2, it’s definitely we’re not alone is scarier, no contest. If we’re alone there’s nobody more powerful that could take us out. If we’re alone we have an entire universe to ourselves

    • @El.fish.the.chocolate

      @@Kyplanet893 trust me, question one make you realize one thing, if the universe is infinite, does that means that there an exactly copy of any of us doing the same thing and thinking the same things at the same time? Because, it's not impossible, it's just extremely hard, but, with infinite possibilities, you would reach it. So, are we truly unique if another exact copy of us exist? And if so, does this mean we are just a copy of someone else? Are we are the originals or just another perfect copy? For the second one, it's completely subjective, so, it's all yours.

    The best solution for colonizing Mars is to focus on its moons Phobos and Deimos. Not the Red Planet. Easy and cost effective to create a artificial magnetic field to block the solar radiation, as well as create a artificial atmosphere to encompus Phobos and Deimos. What might be a good idea is to relocate one of Mars moons as a space gap between the distance between Earth and Mars. This would allow for resupplying a spacecraft at the midway point on its journey to Mars.

  • @paulscott8629
    @paulscott8629 8 часов назад

    It’s quite possible to terraform Mars. In my opinion, terraforming a planet(Mars) is to identify the reasons for its current condition. In the case of the Red Planet, the lack of a large moon for a satellite is the root of the problem. If Mars once had a thick atmosphere, then it must have had a moon the size of Pluto. What might have happened is that Mars original moon(Aries) crashed into it, thus shutting down the planet’s magnetic field. That’s right, a large moon as a satellite is what helps a terrestrial planet to generate and maintain a strong magnetic field that allows a planet to retain its thick atmosphere. A thick atmosphere not only makes life possible, it increases its gravitational pull. In hindsight, if Mars once had a strong magnetic field, then its gravity would be similar to Earths because atmospheric pressure would ensure it. To terraform Mars, the only real way to do so is by importing Jupiter’s moon Io as it new satellite. This would revive Mars magnetic field and allow the planet to terraform itself in under 100 years. The moon Io would allow Mars to internally warm itself up to generate a strong magnetic field

Also these aren’t names to be sent in to the next nameexoworlds competition, but just a name I can sometimes call it to sound simpler. Also if you have a suggestion it probably shouldn’t be a Roman or Greek god because most formally named exoplanets aren’t named like that. *And* you should also include a star name idea, preferably the bigger star/the one HD 189733 b orbits.
