    I love the music you select and I love your smile. Will you sell and ship your tubers to the US? Do you cut and quick dip your stems before they go into the farm cooler or before they go into the shop cooler? once you put them in bigger containers with the hydrating solution do you leave them in that solution until point of sale? What is your preferred brand of hydrator? Do you have to change the water once or twice during the 5 days of storage? Do you use CVBN tabs as some growers recommend? So no flower food in the storage phase? What temperature do you store them at? Floret recommends hydrator in the harvest bucket but then I don't know if she leaves them in the hydrator and if so for how long? I am confused by all the different instructions and I really want to get the best vase life for my customers. You have figured out a method that keeps your dahlias looking like just picked. Some of the varieties do fade rapidly in the vase...so I understand now the importance of narrowing down those grown to the best all around performers as you have done. I am happy for your success and you will no doubt be even more successful in years to come.

    My heart skips a beat when I watch you cutting the bulbs. Here in Australia bulbs are really expensive so we can’t afford to grow them for processing like you guys can. This year we have over 400 tulips in but this has cost us around $5.00 per bulb its sad that they are so expensive and that in all honesty we get to just enjoy them as the season begins to warm up. Some make it into to posy jars with the daffodils but then we have to interplant between the dying tulips and daffodils so that we have a secondary crop coming up behind them. This year it will be our sunflowers and zinnias

    • @greenbeefloralco
      @greenbeefloralco Месяц назад

      Oh my gosh that is so much money! We have a bulb graveyard where all the cut bulbs go to regrow and perennialize. It helps keep the squirrels out of our farm space as well. Happy spring for you! I always longingly watch my flower farmer friends on the other side of the globe in February when you are deep into dahlia season and we have snow. 🙃

    Thank you for another great video. How do you possibly get florist quality dahlia blooms without organza bags? The bugs are all over my dahlias.

    • @greenbeefloralco
      @greenbeefloralco Месяц назад

      I'm not going to say the trick is to plant 200 of each variety....lol...but it might be. :P Success by over planting? In truth, we were finding the organza bags were staying too damp at this farm and when they'd dry they'd dirty the petals anyways - especially the light dahlias - so last year we planted the boom boom whites out at this farm plot to see how they would do with bug pressure, and we have surprisingly little there. It's been a very good summer here for japanese beetles as Beryl came through when they should have been emerging for mating. We've also culled a lot of dahlia varieties out of our wholesale offerings that do attract the bugs - I'm sure you've also noticed that they like certain colours of blooms more than others. We mostly only sell our tried + true ball dahlias to the wholesaler now since that is what they are looking for. Obviously, if you love using organza bags and that system is working for you, keep going. :)

    Thank you for this fantastic video. Do you divide your tubers in the fall or spring? Since you have so many, do you bother searching for an eye before dividing? Or do you just divide them all, then plant them all, and whatever comes up, comes up?

    • @greenbeefloralco
      @greenbeefloralco 2 месяца назад

      We divide in the winter. Since I’ve been growing dahlias for so long, finding eyes isn’t difficult anymore, but I don’t necessarily divide to single tubers anymore on some of our more prolific varieties. We plant specific quantities, so we do inventory dahlia tubers as we divide each winter.

      I, personally, have never used this method. We use Quick Dip and cool water when processing, which is just more efficient for the amount of dahlias we’re harvesting and designing with. Maybe I’ll do a test at the shop this year to see how it works in my climate. ☺️
