    Ever since I broke my arm mountain biking I've struggled to get back into Calisthenics, mainly because my grip strength is abysmal, it's especially annoying when I know I can do more pullups by my hands just give out. Your presentation is very easy to understand, so would please do a video on gaining that famous climbers grip strength and endurance?

      Thanks for sharing your experience! Getting back after breaking your arm can be really challenging. I made a video about hands and fingers that works well together with the hanging to improve your grip: ruclips.net/video/I7AsKNyhABU/видео.htmlsi=nNxXW334AulmDYdR The best way to get that climbers grip is by going climbing :p Will definitely make a video about that (: Keep up the great work on your recovery!

    4:24 instructions unclear. im stuck in depression

    • @thomasjesiek
      @thomasjesiek 9 дней назад

      Thank you for your comment and feedback @steff420! I'm very happy you tried out the exercise, being stuck in the depression can definitely happen. Make sure to get a solid 1 minute free hang, (here your shoulders are in an elevation) before going for the active hang. You can regress the Active Hang by placing your feet on the ground as shown at 0:56 and progress from there. So you are passively hanging for 3 seconds, pull yourself up by pressing the shoulders down (depression), you hold the active hang for 3 seconds again and lower back down to the elevation in 3 seconds. Work towards 1 total minute for each foot variation and after a few weeks you can give the active hang without foot support a go again. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes! Thomas

    Thanks very much for the video.. but i have a one big problem with hanging which im not sure how to overcome.. if i use some sticky gloves i can hang up to 2 minutes.. but without gloves the friction on the bar is sliding down and in about 30 seconds i can't hold the bar anymore.. and the skin starts to hurt..

    • @thomasjesiek
      @thomasjesiek 9 дней назад

      Hey @Shinoku911! Thank you for the great question, It's something I often get asked about. I would gradually build up the time without gloves to condition the skin. Perform your first set without the gloves for +-20 seconds and continue your training with the gloves. With time your skin will adapt, your grip will strengthen and the discomfort will disappear. You could also change up the friction of your bar by wrapping some kinesio tape around it or use wooden rings. Hope this helps, let me know how it went! Thomas

    • @thomasjesiek
      @thomasjesiek 22 дня назад

      Hey @McShiggy! Thank you for your comment (: That could have been a great addition. There are many things to say about sets, supersets, reps, frequency, deloads. I could make a video about that all by itself. A great starting point is to find a variation where you can perform 3-5 repetition for 3-5 sets. Build up towards a 5x5 rep/set range and then progress towards the next variation. You can program them 1-2 times per week, and can plan a deload every 4th week. Some interesting exersises to superset, could revolve around a more open hip position, like a split squat or a diagonal stretch. Hope this helps (: Thomas

    • @thomasjesiek
      @thomasjesiek 22 дня назад

      Hey @roygolan99! Thank you for your interesting question. If you experience a pain sensation in the elbow while hanging, try reducing the load. As said in the video, aim for a strain, not for pain. A strategy that worked well for me is to add some low intensity pushing patterns and a vertical shake. Both can be found in this video: ruclips.net/video/I7AsKNyhABU/видео.htmlsi=TX9ICei4cHTg5Ir2 If you want to integrate them in a full workout, you can check out my blogpost about it: www.thomasjesiek.com/blog/bulletproofing-routine-for-your-wrists-fingers-for-climbing I'll might make a video soley focussing on elbows in the future :) Of course, if the pain is too intense and persists, seek consultation with an in-person professional 😉 Hope this helps! Hey @TheXeeman, thank you for your comment and insight! That is for sure a way to approach the one arm hang.🙂 Are you holding a passive or an active OAH? I found that developing both with an elevated and depressed shoulder position gives me more control and possibilities for future progressions. If you can hold one or both positions for a solid minute and maintain an 'all day, every day' work ethic, then reaching the other positions won't take long. Keep up the good work! Thomas

      Thank you for your awesome comment @ArgumentumAdHominem! I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed the video. I must admit, making it clear and structured was quite the challenge, so your feedback means a lot. I'm excited for you to try out the movements! Have a good one! Thomas

      @@thomasjesiek Your work is extremely welcome. I have been doing calisthenics semi-actively for like 1.5 years now. I can do 8-12 strict pullups or chin-ups, both very slow and very fast. I have a dream of doing a muscle-up. I have been practicing a few preparation exercises, and by exclusion found out my grip to be an extreme weak point at the moment. My max hang on both hands is anywhere between 1minute on a good day and 20s on a bad day, and max hang on 1 arm is 5s on a good day and 1s on a bad day. No clue why the variance is so large, and no clue how is it possible that my grip has not improved by itself from doing basic exercises. I conclude that I understand nothing and that I really have to dedicate time specifically to training grip.

      @@ArgumentumAdHominem I'm planning on creating pull up & muscle up videos in the future (: If you have the capacity to do 8-12 strict PU reps then the MU should not be far away. Continue developing your general hanging capacity and work on a false grip hang with gymnastic rings. From there you can continue practicing a false grip pull up and dips, combined with transition work. When starting you can use a little momentum but build up to the strict form! If you want to perform it strict on a bar I would start with slow and controlled eccentric muscle up's combined with your dips & pullups. Hope this helps (: Thomas

    Nice video, one suggestion is that I've found a tennis ball to be too soft so using a .lacrosse ball gives you all the advantages of using a ball, but of course is much firmer.

      Hey @toddgreen6862 ! Thank you for your comment! 100 % agree with your suggestion. The lacrosse balls definitely help you to get deeper into those tissues. For some it might be to intense at first but certainly something to build up towards. Have a good one! Thomas

      Hey @climbing_thomas, Glad you like the video! Also a cool RUclips handle ;) Exactly what I thought, there is a big emphasis on footwork, but not on work for the foot. The dorsiflexion videos will come eventually 😅 All the best! Thomas

    Hey Nice exercises for generally preparing the body for awkward positions. I just dont understand why there is no focus or even mentioning of the hand or finger flexors. I think this is an essential part of any warmup specific to climbing. I still really enjoyed your video. The other exercises seem reasonable and I really like the Bleau footage

      Hey @christopherbla1629 ! Thank you for your comment and question, very much appreciated. I 100% agree with your remark about warming up the finger flexors! In the end I vaguely point out that this can prepare you for your climbing specific training. I could have specified that this specific training could include some finger loading like some hanging, low intensity climbing, spraywalling or hangboarding... In some other videos we will dive deeper into these topics like: Hanging: ruclips.net/video/yfb3S42UcKw/видео.htmlsi=xxeisQP4GyovHDvT & finger/hand preparation. All the best! Thomas
