I Wanna Be Cruel (Demo) — Lyric Video
I wanna be cruel to you 'cause you broke my heart, yes you broke my heart
I was just a fool to you, but you were my star, oh my shooting star
Love was just a tool for you to tear my world apart, my world apart
I would have gladly ruled with you oh my fallen star
I wanna lie down awhile and forget my pain, forget my pain
You could always make me smile when the tears would rain, my tears would rain
The hurt I feel is much too vile for me to love again, to love again
If I cannot have you, I'll never be the same
My kingdom it will fall in time, this I guarantee, this I foresee
Perhaps the flames from which I rise are a necessity, a prophecy
You once held this heart of mine, now you'll always be just a ...

I have the full video but it's my Virtual Meet and Greet so it's not really an interview per se. I probably won't upload it in full 'cause it's more of a personal experience that's for each meet-and-greet attendee. Nothing confidential or anything but also just feels weird to put out a private meet and greet thing for everyone to watch, lol. But I know I would like to see others' as well, so maybe... we'll see. You CAN watch a little bit of the end here, where one of my cats (Palom) video-bombed me and met George too! ruclips.net/video/taAQUjXVBzc/видео.html As for Fireboy, you're talking about Fireboy Meets His Match or my demo of Waking Up With The House On Fire? A couple demos I did are on my channel: ruclips.net/channel/UCAxjY0LgNMef6A3OfnRVS9Q (I'm planning on eventually redoing them and I also have a few more mixes to eventually post). Boy George signed the poster I designed and printed with the lyrics I wrote for "Waking Up With The House On Fire", after he challenged me to write it. Not sure if he's heard the demos I did but I'm absolutely thrilled to have something I wrote signed by him. Framing this for sure! The crew member guy who took our photo also recorded George signing it, which I didn't know he did until later when I checked my phone. I'm so glad he did-just to capture the memory, but also because in the moment I didn't even hear George say "Oh, amazing!" and "Beautiful!", or hear him humming while he signed it. So it's cool to watch that and hear that and see him smiling, it happened so fast I didn't even really see his reaction from my angle. Afterwards, not on video, he said "Don't smudge it!" when handing it back to me. Before the video starts, I was telling him I wasn't sure if he remembered when he challenged me to write the song, but I printed them on a poster and asked if he could sign it. I originally wanted to get the actual record cover and sleeve printed and maybe even the record recorded with the demos, but I didn't have time and I still want to redo some stuff, so at the last minute decided to get the poster printed. I'll still do the record in time and send it to him and try to get another one autographed for myself. I also got a longer autograph than the usual "Boy", so that made me happy 'cause I've wanted that for a long time. I got "Boy George Love" (the G is kinda "George" scribbled altogether as the G). 🔥🏚🔥✈️ 💛 Clone War Mix: ruclips.net/video/5fhVsnXyQOg/видео.htmlsi=TF7unDn1vgMXH9Gq Original Dub Mix: ruclips.net/video/Q9_nRrt-uGY/видео.htmlsi=wYlXUw5SnU5sIjM5 Boy George Sings Waking Up With The House On Fire: ruclips.net/video/ubIgV2aODGc/видео.htmlsi=Ew48wKbvGnrYLr_U

@@debraweaver6308 Yeah, the album WUWTHOF was written and recorded in about 2 weeks they said (then probably a little longer for polish and mastering). Those kinds of demands are always happening, even today. Record labels want their artists to put out music fast so they can stay relevant and make them a lot of money. George even stated back then in interviews they'd release albums yearly because it's easy for the public to forget you if you don't. I like when labels say take your time and allow them 2, 3, even 4 or 5 years to release a new album. And now of course CC is allowed more time-regardless, it's always gold no matter how little or long they spend on something! The funny thing is, I know people sometimes give the album a bad rap for being rushed, but for being rushed and it's still an amazing album, it speaks volumes about CC's talent. Better than other albums by other artists that take years to make! I'm glad The War Song is getting love again during the recent tours, love the 2 new versions (and now a 3rd new dance version) they've performed. The album was underrated, it's such a good one!

I also want to do a Dance Mix as well. And I have a mix of Clone War that's similar to this with George on vocals and me singing the few extra lines that are missing, and that's a nice, catchy song. So look for those in the near future! There's one more CC album title that never became a song, and I've been working on a little something for that but not sure on that just yet. George didn't ask me to write that one, but I'm sure he _won't mind if I do_. 😉 Then there's my own stuff, lots of songs I've written over the years (several albums worth), but they need to be properly recorded and music written for them so those are a ways off but I do have a couple that are near finished. I like this version, although I prefer the original one. If I may criticise, they both sound like something CC might include on KTBC, not on WUWTHOF. PERHAPS you think of 'The Dive' when thinking about a new remix to this song. :-)

    • @stevemcilroymusic
      @stevemcilroymusic 2 года назад

Thanks! I went reggae with this version because I was messing around with trying to put together some kind of form of Clone War from the bits and pieces he's sang or spoken or written and it happened that reggae went really well with it. I was just going to do a dance mix since there's not a whole lot, but loved the reggae with it, so I went with that even though the original probably wasn't reggae. Then I found that worked really well with WUWTHOF when combined. And that's how this version came about. And yes, a few hints of KTBC were intentional 😁 But I think the 3rd version (the Modern Mix) is more what you're suggesting. It definitely was inspired by The Dive as well as From Luxury To Heartache and a bit of the Life album's vibe. The Original Dub mix was based on wanting it to have a tribal feel, to pay tribute to the album's cover art, and it definitely had a KTBC feel because of it. (It's also supposed to be a tad faster but I didn't have time to redo it in time for George's birthday!) Then I decided it shouldn't be so literal and I wanted it to be something that sounded like it was between WUWTHOF and FLTH since had it been released as a song, it would have likely been written/recorded between those two albums, and would have likely had influences of both as they transitioned to a different sound for FLTH. I also didn't want it to sound like something you might expect-I don't know about you, but KTBC, CBN, and FLTH didn't sound like what I expected them to sound like (not that that's a bad thing!) And it was also important to make it slightly modern as well, since George isn't huge on nostalgia and I wanted to capture his style now, too (since he said he would try to write a version too and I figured I'd try for a hint of something he would write today). I'm hoping to put the final touches on the Modern Mix and upload it in the near future. So far he hasn't. This is the one I wrote (and I have 2 other versions that are faster and different styles, to be posted later when I get a chance). George did improvise the line "Waking up with the house on fire" during my conversation with him, and I used that subtly during the chorus here. But that's as much as he wrote, and I used it as the foundation for the rest of the song.

@@debraweaver6308 He's supposed to write one, or maybe just a song with that as the end line he said, but so far nothing! He said he'd try, technically. I won't hold him to it of course, but it'd be great if he did. But yeah, he asked me to write one, and I wrote the chorus from the one line he sang during our meeting (ruclips.net/video/ubIgV2aODGc/видео.html), then I wrote the verses around that. I spent a while really refining the lyrics (I wrote more than I actually used), and listening to tons of interviews and reading a lot of stuff from around that time to really write something that was relevant to that time and would be something similar to what he'd write, but also be relevant to now since he's all about living in the present and not the past, and I wanted it to be relevant to myself as well. Hopefully I achieved all those things. The funny thing is, some lyrics I wrote (including some I didn't use) I wrote first, and then when I listened to random interviews he said things that were very, very similar to things I had written, which gave me confidence I was writing relevant stuff! Writing like him comes naturally for me, but certain lines I thought were unique to me were even like him without me knowing it! There was one line I took out that was something like "The love we shared was always changing Like poison into wine" And I thought it was unique and didn't want to lose it really, and it was a great description of George and Jon's relationship at the time. But I already had "Ain't no need to say you're sorry with poison on your lips" later in the song and wanted that in but didn't want to repeat the word "poison", and I eventually convinced myself a different line worked better for the previous one. But in a 1984 interview he said "One man's poison is another man's wine. I'm the poison." After I heard that, I really tried to keep my original line in since it was such a perfect coincidence, but ultimately I still removed it. I might use it in a different song though! Anyways, a LOT of care was put into every line, I really wanted to do it justice, and really wanted it to sound like a Culture Club song, so hopefully I achieved all that! I have the reggae-infused Clone War Mix here if you haven't heard it: ruclips.net/video/5fhVsnXyQOg/видео.html And I'm still gonna post the Modern Mix which people seem to like from the instrumental preview I posted a while back, hopefully I'll do that in the next week or two! twitter.com/desidus/status/1535156401659490304?t=xzgmECefFpmWlYJ1j52SDg&s=19 The eventually properly do official recordings in the long run, rather than just the demo versions.

It's a great album! To clarify, this is my own song I wrote, and just a demo at that. It features a sample from George that he sang for me during a meet and greet-he improvised the line "Waking up with the house on fire" which I tweaked a little for the chorus and wrote the rest around that one line/melody. He challenged me to write it after I asked if there ever was a demo that was never released (there wasn't), but he said he could write it now, and that I should write a version and he would write one back (he hasn't yet). You can watch the video of him improvising the line here: ruclips.net/video/ubIgV2aODGc/видео.html... I used that as a backing vocal during the chorus a bit here for an effect. For the Clone War Mix, I used more of his vocals from that song mixed in, so I'm hoping to upload that in the near future, I think it sounds cool. This is the roughest demo I did, but there was a feel to it that I liked, so it's not perfect and I want to polish it more, I just wanted to get it out there on his birthday at least. The other 2 are more polished, and a bit faster (one is a bit reggae and one is sort of funk). I wrote it based on George and Jon but also other things George was sort of writing or talking about at the time, based on a lot of interviews and whatnot. It was important to me to do it justice, don't know if I did but I gave it a ton of thought!

It was the first album I ever bought with my own money as a kid and every song is perfect. I was hesitant to write it because I didn't want to ruin something so great and I really wanted to write it with him, but I ended up writing a bunch of lyrics and had to cut some that I really liked to get it to a "regular" song. But I still hope he writes a version too and see what his take would be on it. You can check out sneak peeks at the other two versions I did here-they're more in line with what may have been the sound at the time. I kept in mind that almost every title track wasn't really how you might think it would be, so I went for a vibe that was NOT inspired by the cover art for those. Just to clarify, it's not an actual Culture Club or Boy George demo. It's a very rough demo I made and lyrics I wrote after George improvised a line and challenged me to write it (ruclips.net/video/ubIgV2aODGc/видео.html). The art is all mocked up stuff I designed as well. I'm no George, Jon, Roy, or Mikey, so I know the demo's far from perfect! I have 2 other mixes that are more polished but not ready to upload yet. He said he would try and write a version as well, so we'll see if that happens.

Oh, MY GOD! This is so cool!! I love how you actually put the lyrics on a WUWTHOF-like enclosed card. Well done!! I felt like shouting ''Man Shake!" throughout your song. 🙂 Have yourself a new member, Sir!

Thanks! Man Shake and Mystery Boy were definitely some of the influences I drew from. Man Shake because I wanted a tribal feel to it as a nod to the cover art for the album. I would love the toast to be done by Amos Pizzey, but that's not very likely. Still polishing up the other 2 mixes and maybe I'll do a few more mixes.

Funnily enough, the titles tracks were never included on the actual albums (except for 'life'). In some cases (From Luxury To Heartache), the missing song is actually better than some songs that actually made it on the album.

    • @stevemcilroymusic

I always liked that the title tracks weren't on the album. It made them stand out and be more unique, somewhat mysterious, and a nice surprise find when you discovered them as a B-side. It also made the album title seem stronger in a sense, since no song was called that on the album. I think the title tracks were always written after the album released, though (K2BC may have been the exception). I think each album had perfect tracklists, I don't know if I'd trade any for the title tracks, even though they're all great. CBN is probably the strongest album--worthy track but to swap out any other song for it would be a crime! And I kinda liked each album having 10 songs, of course you want more but 10 was a nice sweet spot. By the way, I've been sitting on "Don't Mind If I Do" for almost a year. I've been meaning to upload it but just am being a perfectionist. Hopefully soon though. I think I've done it justice. A catchy reggae song that sounds very BG/CC-ish and reminiscent of their 1998-1999 vibe. Keep an eye/ear out!

@@stevemcilroymusic I totally understand what you mean when you write that having no track naming the album actually makes it seem stronger as a whole... I agree with you. When you hear a title track and you don't like it, it automatically makes you think the entire album is bad. Or, if you like it, that it's the best song and the rest is just album filler. I find it interesting that KTBC is a song from the KTBC era, but the verse KTBC was also used on Miss Me Blind on the CBN era... In fact, repeating verses wasn't entirelly new to CC... Both COTPM and KC open up with 'desolate loving in your eyes'' Back in the vinyl days, albums usually had 10 tracks. It was standard and I got used to it. If I could change songs, It'd be ''victims'' for the title track on CBN. It'd save ''victims'' for athe soundtrack of a film. If they'd been asked to provide the music for a film, it'd have been a great choice. I can't wait to hear your DMIID!

@@JCesar-xf2bk Actually, it's "Desolate loving in your eyes" for Church and "Desert loving in your eyes" for Karma. Probably at some point it was the same line and he changed it to be a little different, or at the very least one's opening line inspired the next (Church most likely inspired Karma since I think that's the order they were written). When I was a kid and first heard them, before I ever read the lyrics, I always thought both were "There's a loving in your eyes" (many did and still think that's what it is!)-complete opposite of the meaning, lol. I always loved Miss Me Blind having the "kissing to be clever" line in it, thought it was a fun little Easter egg and nod to the previous album. And while I absolutely love the song and beginning to end the album is gold (and red and green-badum-psh!), if I HAD to pick a least favorite on the album, that would probably be it, but it's hard to say that because I love it for that line alone! Even when it's played live, I'd rather they play something else but then I love it when they get to that part and he sings it live. Here's a sneak peek at an earlier, rough demo version of Don't Mind If I Do... x.com/smcilroymusic/status/1673418957200703488?s=20 I wanted to release either it or the WUWTHOF (Modern mix) today for Mikey's birthday but that isn't likely but hopefully sometime this month at least.

@@stevemcilroymusic True! That's the original verse: DESOLATE, not desperate! I love MMB and wish itd been released in the UK. It'd have easily been another #3 for them. If not, another #1! I like your DMIID... To me, it's a dfficult album to be inspired by because I think it's CC's worst effort. I don't care for most of the tracks, especially ''black comedy''... That said, I DO worship ''cold shoulder'' and ''see thru''... CS is one of my absolute favourite ballads ever recorded by them.

@@JCesar-xf2bk I love DMIID. Should have gotten so much more love than it did. If you like See Thru, I have a nod to that in the song :D twitter.com/desidus/status/1759669998040285558/photo/1 That verse was inspired by the theme of the movie Some Like It Hot (which the album got its name from-Marilyn Monroe's line in it from the champagne scene) and a line between Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon's characters when they're trying to escape from the mobsters, then by See Thru. And while it wasn't an intentional nod to Strange Voodoo, the word "voodoo" being used ended up working for that reason.
