I am learning to quilt and love this method. Thank you for making it so clear.
Well congratulations on becoming a quilter. Welcome to the club! I’m glad you liked it. I have a lot of beginner friendly quilts and tips on here as well. Thank you for watching and commenting! 😊❤️🧵🪡
I am starting a "no buy" until I have my stash down to a manageable size.... once upon a time, I loved whatever materials I purchased, so I need to let them become finished projects for the recipient to love. When I no longer have enough to make a complete project, I get to shop again 😊
@@kirbymallak That sounds like a really good plan. I stopped for quite a while this year but then needed more novelty fabrics for a ton of projects I have. I got out of control for a few hauls, then I needed panels. I plan to stop again and use up a bunch of what I have. Thank you for watching and commenting. 😊❤️🧵🪡
I love working with scraps. My sister is a very prolific quilter. She makes awesome quilts and guess what! She gives me all of her scraps. So happy. Love your channel
Oh that’s pretty great! Scraps are the best! I always love other people’s scraps. It was like when your little it was always so much fun to play with your friends toys. Other peoples scraps are the same thing for me! Thank you for commenting and watching! 😊❤️🪡🧵
Love, love, love this tutorial! You are a great teacher .
Glad you liked it! It’s a really fun bag to make . Thanks for commenting! 😊❤️🪡🧵
How did you finish the raw edges where the blocks are joined?
I didn’t, I just sewed them together. I will be putting batting and backing on too😊
I love scrap quilts... crumb blocks with sash ))). Traditional blocks each different color combo. Sash good here too to keep them from sloshing into each other. I've finally QUIT gathering crumbs from estate sales and charity shops. Both sources GREAT for good sheet backings. Last couple of years hard to find cotton clothes for quilting, but curtains work super. Fabric Fairy will deliver to your door in secret if you let people know you quilt. Free is best price ))))
I do love the fabric fairies too! I agree free is the best for me too! I’m going through a bunch of clothes right now sooooo that means I’ll be cutting down the ones I’m not giving away to use in future projects. I Can’t get enough scraps, I just love them so much💕🥰😊❤️🧵
Gorgeous!!
Thank you! It was surely fun to make. Thanks for commenting! 😊❤️🪡🧵
I've done table runners and vests using different tones of grey. They came out beautiful!

Thank you!! Which rotary cutter are you using? Mine has a button that accidentally releases and pulls the blade in and it really bothers me
That red one is an old Fons and Porter one. When you apply pressure the blade comes down. It works great, but I’m not sure if they still sell them. Thank you for watching! 😊❤️🧵🪡
Mine wasn’t bending needles, but it was making the bobbin case slip and create a little rats nest on the underside of everything I made. I couldn’t go anything more than a medium speed, when I stitched. Thank you so much for showing me how to fix the spring. I think that solved all the problems!
@@kjmeiners Great! I’m happy that it fixed it! 😊❤️🧵🪡
Only $10.99 a yard for outdoor fabric? You found a great deal. I couldn't find a good sale so looked on FB Marketplace. Found someone selling 38 yards of JoAnn's $22 a yard fabric for $100! I only needed 4 yards so now a friend is getting new covers also. You never know where you can find a good deal.
Marketplace is great! I think finding the good deal is part of the fun. I just bought 20 more yards to redo these orange ones and make some pillows, I paid like $6.99 or $7.99 a yard. I decided that I just didn’t like the fabric on these orange ones. It held a little water which had never happened before. I went and found a different outside fabric, so I’ll be making more for this set of furniture over the winter to have them ready for early spring. Thank you for commenting, and I’m sure your friend will be happy with new cushions too. 😊🧵🪡❤️
Were you seeing double reel? I don't know how that happened but it sure went well to the beat of the music! Leave a comment if you were like hmmmmm..... did that just start over?
Hi Everyone! Leave me a comment and let me know what was the easiest quilt you have ever made! :)
Did any scam things happen like weird calls from tax people or credit card company? Increase spam. Anything like that after setting up an account with TEMU
No thank goodness. I did end up deleting the app though, I figured if I ordered again I’d add it. I actually went on again and got a spinning wheel, I started to order with the coupon that said 100 percent off, but I got nervous and didn’t order. I know a person who orders regularly and didn’t have n issue.
@@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle Thank you for the answer. I did the same with the spinning wheel thing and deleted the apps. Lol
Improv is my go-to! I love thrifting fabrics and just sewing. Following a pattern is my nemesis, I always go off on a tangent & make it my own. I work full time, so no time for being persnickety with a detailed pattern, just enough time to enjoy the process. 😊❤ My mom had 7 kids. She took what she had & made the best "quilts" (tied and with or without batting). Fuzzy blankets make great backings on a denim quilt with fleece inside, makes a great weighted quilt!
@@carolharris2329 That is me to Carol. Scrappy , Recycled Improv is my favorite! Thanks for commenting!😊

I've used batting spray to put it together on my wall. Works wonders, better than crawling on the floor for sure, now that I'm 50! (And I have two big dogs that think any fabric on the floor is theirs!)
Do you layer all 3 layers on the wall?
Yes, I have. I only did it once for a toddler quilt, but it worked great--no pins, no basting stitches to deal with when I quilted it! I don't get a lot of time to quilt, so any steps saved is a win!@@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle

Hi Everyone! Here's what I've been doing. Leave me a comment and let me know what you all are up to. Have a great day!!!!😊❤🍂👻👻👻👻🧵🪡
I am just so confused on how to measure the width. In your video you measure your cushion 25inches and say the width of the fabric needs to be 25in. What about a seam allowance? Then later you measure 29 inches when cutting the fabric. Can you please explain that.
@@stefanies.9051 yes I’m sorry for the confusion. I will watch the video later today and try and help fix it. So sorry 😞
Hi Stephanie So I see that it was very confusing. When I showed the 25 inches, that was for the back of the chair Cushing. We don't need to allow for the seam allowance because it needs to be smaller then the pillow so it will scrunch up around the pillow like a glove, so basically the seam allowance was accounted for. The 29 inches I spoke of was the width of the bottom Cushing. I hope to do another video in the near future that Is a bit more clear. Sorry for any confusing.
Thank you so much for replying so quickly! I appreciate it!
I have one more question about measuring the width. In the video you seam to measure the width plus the thickness on one side and then again the thickness on the other side. Won't this make the cover too thick? Would it make sense to only measure half the thickness+width+half the thickness? So that the seam runs along the midpoint of the thickness. Hope that makes sense.
@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle
I just encountered your channel and you remind me so much of my mom and the memories of her teaching me to sew. You do lovely work april and I appreciate you sharing!💛

Thank you so much. Just one question. Have you ever used linen in a quilt? And, seeing that it’s so soft, did you stabilise it to control the softness and reduce the fray? Thank you. If you haven’t, what was your reason?
Hi Hazel I have used an occasional piece here and there and I did not stabilize it just because it would have only been just a piece or two from something I recycled. I have never made a quilt of just linen. I probably wouldn’t make one myself, just because I have never really had enough linen to do a whole quilt, and it just would be more flimsy for me to work with, and I know me….. lol…… I’d get frustrated lol….I think though if I did, I would stabilize it. I hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching! 😊🧵🪡❤️🌼🌺
@@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle thank you so much for your response. I am hand piecing a memory story bed quilt and I bought a few pieces of linen because the colours were so beautiful. The irregular large house blocks and road are 50/50 linen and cotton, and I’m nearly done with the large centrepiece. I started having doubts. I have been busy now two months. Fortunately I stabilised every piece of linen I used. Thank you very much.
I’m glad to see you ironing your scraps! It seems like it would be easier to make accurate cuts
It’s one of my favorite parts of sewing. I really enjoy it for some reason, and I like everything really flat. Thank you for watching and commenting! 😊❤️🌸🌼🪡🧵
I've been using gift bags more often. We get give them, we give them away. I've found there's enough in circulation that I only buy one every now and then. The kids big Christmas presents get given in an extra large bag with tissue paper on top and the top taped shut as best I can. I grab the bags back and reuse them next year. Like with like should definitely be your organisation system. It can take a while to tame the chaos. If you have room having stuff out if sight and out of mind might not work for you. I think someone else suggested vertical storage might work better. I can recommend the Clutterbug quiz to find your organisation style, if you dont already know. Its a real eye opener. And you an see family memebers styles too, helps to understand each other. You're doing really well.
I appreciate your advice. I will definitely watch the video that you mentioned. Thank you for watching and for your comment. 😊❤️🌸🌼🧵🪡🌺
