Which way should the spring be moved a little to the left or forward? Thanks
@@DenBank1 I moved it to the left to bring it a little apart from the main part so it was a little springy. Hope this works for you too! 😊❤️
I buffed and buffed the round part of the bobbin case and pushed the spring part three times to the left and changed my upper thread and it worked. I am so relieved . Thank you so much.@@sewandquiltwithaprilsawtelle
@@DenBank1 Oh that’s great! So glad that it worked for you too….😊❤️
That looks easy enough
Oh they are fun to make. Esther, do you do scrapbooking? I seen on one of your RUclips videos that you were shopping for scrapbooking stuff. (I think I did anyways). 😊❤️

That’s an awesome haul
Thank you Esther! I can’t wait till make them. I’ll show you once they’re done. Hope you’re having a great summer! 😊❤️
Your instructions to begin cutting just below your material is fabulous I have struggled with this for years Thanks for a great and informative tutorial
I’m glad this was helpful! I know it really helped me once I learned to do it. Thank you for watching! 😊❤️
What a wonderful deal you got. Camping quilts and pillows galore!
Yes it sure was. Thank you for commenting and watching! 😊❤️
Thanks for sharing, yea I’ve been seeing a lot of people showing there purchases and the fabric seems to be a problem. Not everyone dislikes it, but most are not pleased with the quality. I won’t buy the fabric, but I have gotten other sewing things and English paper piecing that were a good deal. I just ordered a ruler set for $20.00 5 different sizes and I hope they are good.
I hope your rulers work out, that certainly is a great price. Thanks for commenting 😊❤️
How did the hats react to the starch and heat? I noticed you stopped using the material for a heat barrier. I'd be afraid the iron will scorch my hat. I'll use material just incase.
@@shugmagnolia188 it actually worked fine. I was nervous that the heat would scorch the hat and it didn’t. I would use the material just in case though. I was very happy how they came out. Thanks for watching! 😊❤️

I wonder if oil cloth could be used. Can you put these in the fridge? Will it contain and or prevent odors. Looks like such a great project.
Those are good questions, unfortunately, I don’t have the answers though. I made mine with just plain cotton fabric, I did however over the years make them with homespun cotton fabric too. I have never had an issue and I use them as covers for leftovers in the fridge. Thank you for watching! 😊❤️
Great project

@@karenstairs8273 Your welcome ! Glad you liked it.😊
Thanks to you I have a new skill!!! I just had to remember to thank you. Thank you April ! This video was posted at about the same time I got my dad some jeans that were too long . I was able to hem them but keep the original seam at the bottom . My dad was thrilled , he told my mom " did you see what Coleen did?! 😊" He has dementia so he did it several times , he was so proud of his jeans. I had got a more expensive brand but he's goten shorter ( he loves Levis 505 but buys cheaper because it's in his budget).I wanted him to have a nice comfy pair incase he wanted to go see his sister before she passed. My mom knew how to do this but never said a word :( I took my sewing machine over and fixed his jeans .THANK YOU for this video at the right time for me ! Have a great weekend & sorry my comment took so long, working my self to death at my folks til recently 🥰
Aww, Colleen! I’m so Ahappy that you were able to hem them and so happy how happy it made your dad. Thank you so much for sharing that story. That was great! Have a nice weekend too!😊❤️
The problem with creative people is they have many dimensions. Their head is always creating ideas for them to do. Everything I look at seems to have a purpose for me and it's very hard to get rid of stuff that I love. There's just not enough time in the day to do all the things I want to do in my lifetime😊
That was very well said and I agree with all of it. I always feel like “I love everything” right down to the teeny tiny piece of thread that I cut off and think I need to save it for something elece🤦♀️🤭😊❤️
What size finished block?
Thanks for your video. Very helpful. I’m wondering if it would be better if you could move closer to the camera. 😊
Thank you!
Your welcome ! Hope it was helpful😊❤️
LOVE this short from you in my short feed !!!! Thank you for improving my day with music & video !
Aww thank you Colleen. It’s nice to hear from you😊❤️
Why 3 inches on the box corners?
Because that is how thick the cushion is. If yours is 4 inches make it 4 inches. You want it so it fits good and snug,😊❤️
I wash in hot water with color catchers all my Temu fabric. Then in a hot dryer. Yes, even the 4.9 inch squares. I separate the pack of 50 or 100. I then put them in a hot dryer. Surprisingly very colorfast and a trace of shrinkage and hardly no fraying. I then I lay them out on a big piece of cardboard and spray them with Niagra spray starch till lightly soaked, when dry, I iron them with a dry iron. I get great squares of crisp fabric which I use in quilts, I am in my 1930s phase of patterns. I think that our quilting foremothers would use this fabric as they used well-worn shirts, undergarments, pants, dresses, and feed/flour sacks. I don't think they would be so picky as quilters purport themselves to be. Absolutely no promblems with the quilts. I have also purchases wovens/homespun type fabrics that were excellent to use in my denim rag quilts. The upshot is, that there are practically no US manufacturers. On is the Fabric Mill in New York. Cherrywood hand dyed fabrics are hand dyed in the US but they don't say where they get their muslin. Most high quality cotton muslin is made in Pakistan. As to slave labor, is you drive a battery powered vehicle, the rare earths used in making the earth polluting battery are mined by child slave labor Look it up if you're fastidious about not supportin slave labor.
Bro my hats are floppy cuz i washed it💀💀💀
Same bruh
So pretty and striking!
Thank you!😊 ❤️
The last hat was still on the ground. You can't really tell whether it worked on it or not without putting it on. 👒
I belong to a weekly craft group. I try to take things to other crafters in our group as I come across them. The daughter of one group member works with rehab and assisted living residents. I give the majority to her. She sends me a photo of the stuff they make every so often. Such a simple act brings so many smiles. 🙂
Oh that’s really nice I bet they just love getting all those supplies. I opens one drawer today and found little kits that I will never use
I am a bag hoarder. My husband laughs at me. I had them organized by size and type of closure. I save all the bags my TEMU items come in. I had a garage sale in February. I reduced my crafting hoard by 30% at least. I sold my card making, knitting, wreath, beading supplies and more. I used every bag I had packaging it all. I had over 24 empty totes after my garage sale. My husband advertised the totes online and they all sold! I save the large shopping bags as trash bags in my craft/sewing room. It felt great to lighten my load. You have inspired me for a round two!
Oh that sounds so freeing. I bet it’s a great feeling. It must be so nice to be able to just enjoy the stuff you kept. Is there anything that you got rid of that you really miss?
Not really. There have been a couple of times I cannot find something after the reorganization. A member of our group decided to retire so I bought all her supplies and backstock for a scarf business. I had no room, so some things had to go. I took the opportunity to get rid of my 5x5 storage unit.
Thank you so much. I have been having difficulty with this issue for a long time. My Janome Horizon is now fixed.
That’s great! Happy to help.😊❤️
Great video! Thank you!

Great, helpful video! Excellent job with the voiceover too! Plus you're such a pleasant person! 😍
Glad it was helpful. Thank you for your nice comment.😊❤️
I am culling my stuff, if I passed away I would not want my kids to waste months of their lives sorting my stuff. I told them to get a skip in and dump the lot. I give them anything they like now if I have it hanging around, why wait until death to give something away. My kids had to take all of their possessions once they had settled into their own homes. We are delusional thinking that we are going to use everything up.
Good idea and I agree. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😊❤️
You made it so easy to understand.Thank you !!
You’re very welcome! Happy to help. 😊❤️

Hi April my sewing area is so tiny I have to keep it clean
Mine is small, I just can’t believe how much I can fit in the cabinets . I always thought I was really organized. I have learned through this process that I am a STUFFER. lol.
OMG my family owns a property in Bancroft Maine for 8 years and we always cross that bridge we go 4 times a year and someday were all going to live up there
Thats great! It’s beautiful here and we all love crossing that bridge. It never gets old. Lol. I love your RUclips handle. I am also a Lady Gaga Fan….😊❤️

What do I do with a floppy straw hat?
I am pretty sure that this method would work on straw. I’m not an expert, so I’m not sure, but it seems like it would. I would only start with a very small area of the hat before you do the whole thing. If you do, can you let me know how it came out? Thank you for commenting. 😊❤️
Hi April, I know it is hard to declutter. We lived in our old house 19 years and we moved 1 hour away. My husband would catch me cleaning out my grown children’s rooms for the move and just crying up a storm at how they were all grown and out the house. Up to this point we had moved every 2 years and my household got a good decluttering. Military brat and military DOD wife. I found a system that works for me. I start with 4 boxes/laundry baskets. 1 is for throw aways, 1 is for keep, another for donate and last for item in the wrong room. Use as many boxes as you need. I then take the donation boxes out to the garage or put in back of my car. I think only once I went back and grabbed a piece of clothing I changed my mind on. Our house flooded the beginning of this year and my sewing room and closet were completely flooded. My husband helped me move all my tubs, stacks, books and everything out of my packed 8x8 sewing room. What an eye opener. I had 2 sewing tables, chested drawers, 2 industrial 8 by 8 metal racks full of my books and totes.
Thank you for sharing that, it’s defiantly inspiring. It’s great hearing how other people deal with clutter . Thank you! 😊❤️
Wow!!!
Which video comes next? Also, I do not know what you mean by using an old sheet in the middle, or making batting. I want to make a quilt top from old flannel clothes. It sounds so soft and cozy to me. But how do I make the other side, the one that will touch people, also soft and cozy?
The sheet in the middle would be used as the batting. The back of the quilt could be made from any fabric or a blanket or sheets. You could make another quilt top and use that as the backing to if you wanted. The other video is part 2. It’s called Recycle clothes to make a quilt part 2. You should be able to find it on my channel and click videos. I hope this was helpful.😊❤️
Thank you! I have a favorite hat that I can’t wait to try it on!
This method works great! I hope it does for you too. Thanks for watching.😊❤️
Im constantly sorting and cleaning. Its endless
It is endless. I am loving having some empty spaces though 😊❤️
I just came across your video on cutting strips and I would love to know what brand cutting mat your smaller one is. Even though I am still able to quilt, my eyes are problematic and have difficulty sometimes seeing the edge of my dark fabric when I place it on my dark cutting mat and I have been looking for one that is dark on one side and white on the other like yours is. Please help me!
My cutting mat is a Fiskcars . I bought it at Walmart. I believe when I bought it that it came in a kit with 3 pieces, a mat, a rotary cutter, and a clear 2 1/2 inch by 18 inch ruler. I think I paid around $25.00 for it. Thank you for watching! 😊❤️
Hi! For the umpteenth time I just decluttered BUT this time I did “I need”, “don’t need” , “give away” piles. It has worked so far - still need to weed through areas. What got me going SERIOUSLY WAS THAT I could Not find a quilt kit I bought to make for my graduating granddaughter! I was sewwww disappointed with myself that I I cried. I have now started it and she will get a well-earned gift from her Quilting Nana! GO DO IT, GIRL! Thanks for your sharing!!😅
Those are great tips. I had a friend’s quilt she left here for me to long arm for her, I haven’t got to it, but I panicked because it took me 10 minutes to find it the other day. Having to look for things is not fun when everything should be right in it’s own home. I really hope I can figure it out too. Thanks for sharing,😊❤️
