Another interesting angle is vocals that sound too quiet because they actually are sung too quietly... This is something that might be hard to understand at first, but since a lot of people don't have a proper recording studio, they might worry about the neighbors hearing them, or get distracted by external sounds, which has consequences on one's singing, and on the final take. Recording your vocals "dry" (no processing when tracking) lets you hear all the imperfections of your take in real time. For instance, and I'd like to emphasize this one, recording without any compression. You'll be able to hear all the rapid dynamic variations in detail as they happen, which has a HUGE impact on your singing. You're more prone to try to sing "more quietly" to compensate if you get a little louder on a part, and it immediately messes up your entire overall volume balance. An audio interface that lets you process your vocal in real time might be a bit expensive, but it really is worth it. I got my hands on an Apollo Twin a little while ago, and being able to use plugins directly as I'm recording without having my audio crackling like crazy is a life changer. My singing got a lot better instanty too, thanks to the confidence boost of not having your dynamics all over the place at the slightest volume variation

In addition to all of your great advice, I like to use a dynamic EQ sidechain to duck the signals from my music, keeping my vocals where I want them.

The design is such a dealbreaker for me, it's hard to look at cubase for long periods of time. Also, although their midi to notation engine is unparalleled, the practical use of writing in notation in Cubase is terrible. The playback cursor and "caret" need to be controlled separately, and you can't even click somewhere on the score to have the playback cursor jump there, instead you have to go back to the project window to set a playback position. So weird.

Hi Alice. My name is Orrin Bynum. I am working on my Musical Bucket List. I am 69 years old. I am learning how to use my Cubase 13 program. I am also a former also retired Choir Director/Musician. I have play and directed choir of all ages for over 30 years. I would love to have your gift of this ACE Studio but, I will have to learn how to use it from you and other people who have knowledge about how to use it. I just saw a video about it a few weeks ago. I pretty much would love to use it to make all of my vocal parts along with playing all of the instruments in my recording I want to make this new year coming up. Personally i would like to own my own vocal program using AI vocals and my own vocals. That will probably come out in about another year. I would like to know how to get in touch with Steinberg about something that they deleted from Cubase 14 which has stopped me from upgrading to Cubase 14. I was beginning to to learn how to use Iconica Sketch from watch videos from a host of people using Cubase and who are also making videos about Cubase. One of my favorite people that I watch is Andrew Black. He introduced me to the Cubase feature called “Exploding the Chord”. This feature allows you to take your single recorded track and will Explode your Chords and make multiple other separate tracks for your various other assigned instrumental tracks you want to use for your instruments you’ve want to use for you orchestral voices. Adrew Blake said that Cubase has deleted this feature from Cubase 14. I would like Steinburg to add this feature back into Cubase 14 so that I can continent to use the deleted feature called “Explode the Chord” and upgrade to Cubase 14. I am asking you to share with me how I can get in touch with the Cubase programmers to ask them to put this feature back into Cubase. Can you help me,e with this task and get the information I need to ask for my request to be honored. I would also like to thank you for making so many of your videos that are helping many of us beginners understand Cubase a lot better. I haven’t upgraded to 14 yet. Normally I upgrade on the first day of a new release. Did not feel compelled like with previous releases.

Love Cubase features, but there's a lot of menu diving and GUI looks busy (visual sensory overload)

I do think cubase can provide more sounddesign tools like spectral resonators more granulators and diffrent granulators.

I’ve been trying real hard to understand the logical editor and trying to find a use for my workflow, but I cannot wrap my head around it and the way you have to set up macros. I really wish we could get something more simplified like the macros in (studio) one.
