This looks like Clark St. My old neighborhood
I love it! 🥰 it was - I like Lakeview a lot.
I love my city but. bro are you cool walking down the most dangerous part of Chicago 😂
😂😂😂 I can’t help it - I love the city. Yes I’m fine walking the dangerous parts lol! It was cool fr.
Wow, this warms my heart. Pride Cleaners is iconic. Also, seeing the building that used to be Independence Bank where my grandfather opened an account for me to help with college brought back memories.
Don’t forget the Rhodes theater that used to be over there😅….
I love that - I appreciate your comment. Pride Cleaners is definitely iconic 🙂
And Rhodes Theater lol. I think they should put another theater there.
back in the 60's,70's 80's use to ride the 79th st bus all the way to commercial st. My grandmother lived off 79th Essex and harolds was on the corner.
I remember riding the 79th bus. Those were the days for me lol! But I would take it to Ford City Mall. Aww ford city mall - haven’t been there in years.
@@peacefulexplorations Damn ford city mall, movie theater. man that takes me back lol. my other haunts were the ashland bus, cottage grove, western ave.
I love this so much!!!
Thank you! I appreciate it 🥰🧡
My neighborhood ❤❤❤❤
🧡🧡🧡🧡 and I will be back to film more
😊6:09 The South Shore fresh market is lovely. Af Am. need to monitor their lower class. They keep the middle class from shopping in the neighborhoods. These neighborhoods we vibrate, that's why we wanted to move there. Once a community is run down, no one wants to come. It is hard to build a community back up. Keep your neighborhood safe and viable so people will be proud of where they live and shop.
South Shore is definitely a neighborhood that they should put more into but it is still a very awesome community. The people - the history and culture are all wonderful. I love it.
Thank you very much for filming Gary, IN. I love Downtown Munster, IN as well.
Not a problem at all! I like Downtown Munster, Indiana. I’ll definitely come and film the town when I film some more of Gary ☺️ Thanks so much for your comment!
I was born and raised in the West Loop and i enjoyed the South Shore neighborhood.
I love the West Loop but I love the South Side more lol. It has so much culture and hidden places. South Shore is definitely one of the areas I love 🥰
I went to South shore high School
I always passed by South Shore High school lol. How was it?
It used to be a Rose theater over there
It was! There are a lot of businesses that are no longer there. I wish they still had it.
Nice.....I'm from the 9. This brings back a lot of good memories. ❤
Thank you! I’m glad it brought back memories for you - Chicago is home and I appreciate your comment 🧡🙂
At 16:00...Dat's Donuts used to be one of several Leon's BBQ restaurants. 79th and Stony, 59th and Racine(?) and 83rd and Cottage are the three I remember. After ChicagoFest, Leon's became extremely popular. As a result other locations were opened. However, i think he overextended, as those locations closed, and went back to the three aforementioned. 59th may have closed too...not sure...but Leon's was dow to Cottage and Stoney when he closed shop...
I know he has on Archer and I think it’s one on 106th street but I’m not sure if that one is owned by the same person or not. I haven’t had that one yet. But when we used to eat from Leon’s years ago - it was so good! I have to go visit and see if it’s still the same as I remember.
Big Sam's used to be 24/7 until the pandemic hi. Now it closes at 11pm i think....
I like that food mart lol. And yes it closes way earlier now.
Back of the yards homd sweet home
Wish they had kept the Regal like they kept the Apollo in NYC.
That would’ve been so awesome to be honest. I would’ve loved that. So much history.
Thank you so much for this I’m going to Chicago NEXT WEEK🎊🥳🥳
Definitely visit the neighborhoods - Harold’s is the best inside of the neighborhood - the one on 87th Street either next to the gas station or in the Jewel parking lot. It’s off of the Dan Ryan. Go to Baba’s get the Italian beef with cheese and hot peppers and a lemonade on 78th and State Street - get some Chinese food from 71st and Jeffery in south shore. Visit Heinies Shrimp House (for the pizza slices and side of fry on 105th and Torrence. Go to Calumet Fisheries on 95th Street off of the bridge and get a fish dinner fried hard. For breakfast - make sure you visit White Palace Grill on Canal Street and if you REALLY want to try some good donuts? Go to Old Fashioned Donuts - 112th and Michigan Avenue. Soooo good. Don’t eat the food downtown. It is okay 😒😂 Oh and the hotdog stand on 63rd and Halsted. I’ll have you all over the city forreal. It’s so much to do in Chicago and so many neighborhoods that you can visit. They have a nice coffee shop in Pilsen called Cup of Joe - I am in love with the Red Velvet Latte. Have it iced - it is so good. Let me know if you have any questions or anything 🧡
This neighborhood got the best donut over there. I also love going to Munster Donut in Indiana and Home Cut Donuts in Joliet.
YES! I love their donuts - so soft and melt in your mouth. The best donuts. I have to try those locations - would you recommend anything special?
@@peacefulexplorations Check out Munster Donut and Home Cut Donuts. My favorite is the chocolate ring donut and honey dip.
Amazing neighborhood. My husband grew up on the Southside of Chicago in the Roseland neighborhood and I grew up in the northern suburbs of Winnetka. I grew up wealthy and he grew up working class. I help him got to being wealthy like me so we are happy together since he got his own business where he could work from home now. We're in a interracial marriage since I'm white and he's black. I love our diversity of culture and we love to learn more from each other. He was my first love and I was his first love. I do enjoy the good food over there especially the chicken wing spots. I really appreciate you sharing your testimony with you and your husband Peaceful Explorations.
I appreciate you sharing yours - it is about learning from each other and having a safe space to talk and interact. I love talking to others about their stories and experiences growing up. I think it’s so wonderful how you both were able to work together even though you all came from different backgrounds. I think that’s what life is about - learning from each other and sharing experiences so that you can create your own story together 🧡
Walked those streets in the 60's when the Regal and the Metropolitan were still standing.
@@26MikeHike My mom said the same thing about the Regal. She said the Regal was the place to be lol.
So much history down on 47th. I wished the Regal Theatre, which was on King Dr. hadn't been torn down. Hopefully, you tried some of the soul food places you passed? Thanks again for the tour.
@@autumnsmom1117 So for Bronzeville Soul the catfish is good but the customer is iffy lbs. I would definitely say give them a try. It is really a lot of history down 47th Street. I saw the old images of how things were - the theaters - black owned businesses and the mom and pop restaurants. The kids playing in the street with water from the fire hydrants. I love that.
Tobacco road
@@randyhorne1067 47th and King Drive better known as Tobacco Road 🙂💯
Yes this channel is very educational purpose while you're doing these walking tours Peaceful Explorations. My mom and dad was kinda worried when I told them that I went to the Southside of Chicago with my husband when we met. Me and him was born in the year of 2000. I remember my dad would take me to the Metra station to watch the trains come by back in Winnetka since he knew that I love trains with a passion when I was a kid and teen years. I love our home by the Indiana Dunes so I could bike ride to the lakefront. I sure do miss the Green Bay bike trail. I used to take that to Downtown Evanston and Wilmette. I miss the snowball fights my mom, dad, my sister and best friend had when I was a kid. My mom grew up in Oak Park and my dad from Winnetka.
I truly appreciate that! It’s so many memories that are embedded in us growing up. My husband is from the west side of Chicago and I’m from the south side. There are so many things we’re learning together about the city in general. Especially the southside and how many people didn’t have to go out of their neighborhoods for anything. They had everything there. Amusement parks - theaters - roller rinks - restaurants - everything. I truly love that about your home and Downtown Evanston. Watching videos makes me also think about growing up and the different places we would go. It’s so much fun and so much history around the city that I just love it. 🧡🧡🧡
West side to the south side 47th was the very path I traveled for 20 years now am in Texas
I want to go to San Antonio. I heard they have a wonderful Riverwalk. I totally get that! I love the area and neighborhood 🧡
Love you for doing this, it's great Subbed a few weeks back, so glad I did Stay safe y'all, Thanks
Thank you so much! ☺️ I love 47th - love the neighborhood and we will definitely stay safe out here! 🧡
I use to live and go to grade school around here. Interesting.
I love it here. It has so much history. I did research on the neighborhood - my mom told me they used to have theaters down there - the Jackson’s used to perform. It was so lively but it seems to be getting back to that as well.
@@peacefulexplorations Truth
Thank you PE Walking Tours. Keep the videos coming in the Chicago area.
Not a problem at all! Thank you so much for watching the channel. I truly and really appreciate it!
I love this educational channel even more since I love to learn multicultural stuffs. I would also teach it to my daughter so she could embraced both sides of her culture since she's biracial and have her strong dad by her side. Winnetka, IL is mostly whites in my neighborhood and Evanston, IL is more multicultural. Thank you so much Peaceful Explorations Walking Tours, you're the best. Please think about downtown suburban walking tours in the future. I love going to the Museum of Science and Industry.
I love that! I really never thought this channel would become such a learning platform for others. I like that because I do say at times that schools don’t do enough to teach black history. Especially when it comes to biracial history. It helps in understanding your culture and history. Plus - I’m learning about my own culture along the way. I love that it helps people and I will definitely capture Winnetka and Evanston 🙂 because I love the two areas as well 🧡🧡
BLISS BLESSINGS AND PEACE OF SOUL TO ALL 💛 47TH STREET AWESOMENESS

It was definitely the strip back then💯

I love this channel with a passion. I would definitely take my daughter to this area once she get older so she can learn about multicultural things. She just arrived this morning. She have both of her parents in her life. Thank you Peaceful Explorations.
That is awesome! I truly appreciate that and I think that is a blessing to learn about multiculturalism and history. She is very lucky to have you both 🧡 My mom definitely instilled in us to learn more about other cultures and traditions and I love that 🥰

Good morning, you making me home sick 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂 Good Morning! ☀️ Don’t be homesick - Chicago is right here 🧡
Ahh, 83rd & Cottage Grove. Dat Donut used to be Leon's BBQ, and Dat Donut had a separate window inside Leon's if memory serves correctly. When that place caught fire in the mid 80's my friends and I cried, they had great bbq & great fries w/bbq sauce. We were so glad when Mr. Leon rebuilt his place. Curt's BBQ was on the other side of the street further down on 83rd around where that Reeves & Son's Cleaners sign is and they had great food too, but I think that Leons was the best.
That is so awesome to hear. I never knew about the previous BBQ spot. I thought that Dat Donut had always been there lbs. I do feel that Leon’s BBQ was the best - I think that’s the only BBQ spot we ate from growing up. The history in the neighborhoods are so amazing - it is really nice to hear about how things were in the past. Gives a different perspective and things that people have never known. Thanks so much for your comment 🙂
Wow, thank you! You started off in my old neighborhood and @5:00 that was the block that I grew up on 79th & Evans. I lived there from 1971 - 1996 and my mom moved out of our childhood home in 2003. The area sure has changed over the years. The door that you can barely see @6:10 used to be the entrance to Stevenson then re-named to Chatham bowl. We called it "the hole" because it was underground. When the bowling alley was there the entrance had two metal doors with glass. That was my first job in 1985. Ben Stevenson owned that entire building at one time and it now looks almost completely empty but at one time it was completely full. @6:25 the corner there was Stricklands Pharmacy. A large black owned pharmacy & store setup like a Walgreens. Mr. Strickland was the pharmacist and my mom & dad got all our prescriptions filled there. Happy Liquor was there when I was a kid although a black man named Lee Trotter used to have a store there and on the opposite side of the street at one time. I spent allot of time there and walking the neighborhood. It was safe then, well as long as you didn't cross Cottage Grove going east too far. It was allot of gangs there but we would go to Lotus Chinese Restaurant (where that red sign is @6:35 on the left, and or Harold Chicken which used to be across the street from where it is now sometimes. Billy's Gyros @6:46 has been there since I was a kid too but it looked boarded up from a distance. I moved out of state in 2008 and don't make it to Chicago much anymore. Most of my family moved to the south suburbs. There were so many great businesses at one time. Skyway Records across the street was one of my favorite places to go. Thanks for the literal stroll down memory lane. Oh wow, and that vacant lot @19:03 was the old Rhodes Theatre. We saw movies like Cooley High, & The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh there in the 70's That lot has been vacant for decades. So many buildings are boarded up, it's sad. So much history. Pride Cleaners has been there for probably 50 years. Same sign. @20:16 there used to be an iconic restaurant there but I forgot the name of it. All the black politicians used to eat there. They had great food. @21:27 on 77th & Eberhardt was my old grammer school St. Dorothy. @21:41 on the opposite side of the street was my old barber Bullseye. I started going there in 1990 or 1991 I think. Looks like it's still open. I apologize for the long comment but you just brought back so many fond memories on that short walk. I haven't been over there in years.
I was born on 80th and Drexel. Had an apartment on 80th and Maryland. Waayyyyy back when...Used to be a bowling alley just before you got to Cottage. Dad and I used to go there a lot. Also used to be a Payless Shoe Store when the chain was popular. Used to be a bank on the corner of 79th. Sporting goods store on 78th. Did a lot of IT work at the State office on 80th. Aunt stayed on Evans. Midas used to be on the corner of 81st I think...Decent restaurant diagonally across the street...Izola's Restaurant. Pride Cleaners...Dad had his clothes cleaned there. Jerome Photography just off Eberhart..or was it the previous block??. Caught the # King Drive bus to Dunbar in my senior year.
Do you remember the name of the bowling alley? Payless was definitely a popular store back then - we used to go there all the time especially for our back to school shoes lol. It seems like there were a lot of different businesses in the neighborhood. We used to go to Pride Cleaners lol. They were the best. And a photography studio? That is so awesome. Thanks for sharing - I appreciate your comment 🙂
I lived there 50+years ago,76th & Bishop
That is so cool! I’m sure there were a lot of other businesses back then!
