    I like David's idea of an Honor of the Queen movie. He's right though about the books would be better on TV as a series. I could see it like a Battlestar Galactica or Star Trek(though with a single story/season and not unconnected stories).

    My brother and I are in agreement that if either of us was to hit the lottery jackpot, an Honor Harrington TV show would be where quite a bunch of that is going to go into… 😉 I‘d even be inclined to hire D&D as showrunners - after all, at first they did a phenomenal job with GoT; they only started butchering it, story line by story line, when they ran out of original material and had to switch from adaptors to creators (at which they, needless to say, proved to be abysmal), but that‘s not gonna happen for quite some time with the Honorverse…

    I like the idea of starting with the battle, but I wouldn't throw the audience into it. Course I'm not a movie producer, I might be getting the wrong image from this statement. I would start with the black screen, like the night sky, it's black, but stars start to pop out, one-by-one. And play a song... ruclips.net/video/PeVqgynorvA/видео.html Time it to the song. Q-ship comes charging in, filling up the right side, the first third passes too fast to catch the name. The screen "tries" to match speed as it passes, a nice long angled shot as the we "try" to see the whole ship, soaking in the weapon ports and damage. Reach the end as it chucks a handful of missiles in the direction of it's trail of debris. We "try" to follow the missiles. A response missile passes from the dark. Then counter-missiles take some out, some more missiles fly off-course. One keeps going. An explosion in the dark, a silhouette; cinematic moment, not correct canon. A ship comes charging in on the left side. We get to see it in full before the screen matches speed. Damage is clearly on another level. CL-56 Fearless Harkness yes, shoving a missile off of McBride. Santos picking herself up, red lights everywhere, slams the console. We eject with the fusion bottle and get to see its explosion maul the port side. We dive back in, the McKeon moment. I hesitate to remove this. We pass a few walls and decks, atmosphere tents litter a hallway. Enter med-bay, Montoya raises his hands as a flat-line sounds. I'll leave the rest of med-bay to the imagination. Then you can have the bridge scene as described. But I would hazard to say, the conclusion of the battle need not be depicted. The grav lance and torpedoes need to be understood, and there's no time here, and dreams don't care. Wake up for the song's second course. Bring the music down for the bedroom scene. Scene change before the music ends; even if it needs to be extended. “I thought we’d discussed replacing Beta Fourteen with Commander Antrim, Andy.” We look to see what she talking about, a spiked collar, no, wait... CA-286 Fearless While she and Andy babble behind us, we get ourselves a good look at the replacement ship.

    You can get away with someone in their mid to late twenties. As written, we "know" that Honor looks 19, because she perceives herself to look as such. Speaking as someone (a man) who looked like a teen up until I was pressing 30, that niggling feeling of having my skills as a tradesman called into question all the time despite having ten years experience ("Are you here just to prep the job?"). I don't recall anyone else' perspective of her apparent age until the second book, course it's been a while. Here, I'll show you how, it's a little dry, but classic military style... Date xxxx flicks across the under-bar. Doctor's back crosses the screen, "Little miss Honor Harrington, age xx, born xxxx, Sphinx..." He looks closely at the girl on the bed, "Are you the right patient?" Little Honor, "Yes!" "Oh thank goodness. I thought I'd walked past the pearly gates without noticing." Giggles. "Are you ready to postpone those gates for an extra 200 years?" Nods. He opens a case, "This might sting a bit." His back covers the screen again. Cut Date xxxx flicks across the under-bar. Honor's young woman face comes up into the mirror, dripping water. Her eyes flick across all the tell-tale markers, and let's out a grimacing sigh before wiping her face. She's getting dressed, nothing out of the ordinary, until she grabs her jacket, with her honors and rank (does the RMN has name pins?). She grabs her personnel orders as Nimitz scuttles up her shoulder, and she briskly takes her leave. Cut. Whether she goes to CL Fearless, or a prior experience, it works. Hell, the mirror scene can be a regular seasonal opening.

    Just finished my yearly listen to Armageddon Reef through At the Sign of Triumph. I get the sense that you don't really care about Audio versions making me wonder about the balance of sales between audible and print. At my age I can only listen due to eyes and actually holding a book. As an audio engineer I understand the recording process and it seems your publisher has the responsibility to get the recordings right. There is a producer, recording engineer and the voice artist and it's a shame that Oliver Wyman was replaced when you or someone is paying a producer and an engineer at the least to read check the audio book like and editor might spell check the print version. Jonathan Davis is a fine reader - I love his work on Olan Thorenson's Destiny's Crucible series, but Oliver Wyman is the voice of SAFEHOLD. When I hear NIm-you -ay instead of Nimue or Tells - burg instead of Telisburg it's like fingernails on a blackboard irritating. I find it difficult to believe that Davis did not listen to a single book to get an idea on pronunciation. Makes me think he couldn't have cared less. You are paying a producer, engineer and your publishing company to produce a quality audiobook. You have faithful fans like me who would gladly proof-listen, Please have Oliver Wyman back to do the rest of SAFEHOLD. He is by far the best of the readers, Keating and Collins are pretty awful, Culp is just ok and Davis simply isn't Wyman. Oliver actually did you a favor when he made a mistake on purpose that the producer is being paid to catch. You are paying for these people - make them do their job. At 77 I will not make it to the end of series I know so well and that's a shame. I am hooked on your creation and I want to know how it resolves. I recall hearing Orson Scott Card saying he loved listening to the audible versions of his work because it made his work come alive in his mind. I wish you had a similar care about the audio versions of your work.

    0:46 I remember introducing my sister, who was a big Star Trek fan, to the Honorverse starting with _On Basilisk Station._ I remember her saying she thought it was slow and boring. Then when she got to the part where Honor puts it all together and "smashes the big red button" to bring Fearless to General Quarters and take off after Sirius, my sister came running into my room and said, "Finally, she had her _Capt. With the advancement of CGI being almost photorealistic, and in consideration that the Honor Harrington story spans such a large history, it seems to me that CGI would allow you to progress characters as they age without relying on specific actors to carry or assume the role of characters who will change over time and instead rely on voice acting her voice actors can be replaced as a situation dictates.

    Path of the Fury is great. Can you imagine her as a O Branch officer? Or occasionally helping out the Cadre? Surely she will have to spend at least a LITTLE time at a Fleet academy to better learn space warfare, or how to better infiltrate and build backgrounds for undercover ops? That last one is specifically mentioned because of what happened with Alexov.

    Sounds like one helluva a start to a first Honorverse movie. Or even the start of episode 1 of the first season of a TV show. One season per book would be fabulous. I think Mr, Weber has a very realistic grasp on the realities of production. I will be there as a fan right from the start of a TV series or movie.

  • @dmfraser1444
    @dmfraser1444 2 года назад

    I see no reason that Raoul could still not serve under Theisman on one of the ships that fought on the Haven side in the Battle of Manticore. It would still be awkward to be under one of the people that tried to blow away the fleet of your home world. With his treecat to keep him straight. Not as awkward as if Honor had died in the Battle of Manticore. But still awkward enough that I am sure it will be a funny story. And if it was Eric Flint that kept Honor alive to be able to retire, then it was fortunate he was able to collaborate on this series. I actually like his work in this universe just as much in the 1632 series. It is so cool to hear Mr. Weber speak of all theses things he brought to such vivid life in the books. By the way, I am a 70 year old retired electronics engineer and have been with the Honorverse series right from the start. I have a huge collection of ebooks I will never get around to reading all of them in my lifetime. But I still buy everything Weber and Flint as well as a few others put out. The Baen web site is so good for easily buying these. I only wish Harry Turtledove was on it as well. I have still not figured out how to reliably buy his books as ebooks.

  • @dmfraser1444
    @dmfraser1444 2 года назад

    If this is a live action show, good luck getting treecats looking real even if they are CGI. As well, in the Honor Harrington books I have read (that is, all of them and now reading To End in Fire) the way the books are constructed with a large amount of background and character development in a large portion of the books, I am unsure they will be fast enough moving to satisfy viewers who are not big time fans of the series already. That is, the universe may be too big for the motion picture or TV media. Or at least too big for the producers. If can be done but Mr. Weber is going to keep a tight rein on the screenwriters, if for nothing else, to not bend canon too much. But if done carefully and maybe if a novelette of each episode is released at the same time to a site like maybe the Baen free library with an expansion of the background and exposition of each episode so that the viewers who care can get the whole story. But without putting in so much to cause people to skip the established series. Sort of a mid level summary of maybe 10,000 to 20,000 words. With of course the ability to purchase the books in the established series. And leave the exploding starship fans who do not care about characters or the development of the Honorverse with an action story. Done right, this could become another Star Trek. As for Honor, she is the person we want to be ourselves if we had the opportunity. But it is a cruel universe out there. You can count on me being a fan of such a TV show or movie series right from the start. I would love a start well before Basilisk Station to avoid conflict with canon. Fresh from Saganami Island would be great. And do not make the ships so ugly as in the Tales of Honor comics. The style on the covers of the novels is what this writer feels would be best. The Bu9 images are great. BUT where the ships have huge graphics on the hulls based on their name. Like Hexapuma for example. Nose art half the length of the ship so to speak.

    A TV series is a way better format than a single movie. Consider a short season of only ten 45 minute episodes. That's almost 8 hours of footage, compared to a 2 hour movie at the upper end. I think the 1st season should be _On Basilisk Station,_ followed by _Honor of the Queen_ in season 2. The following seasons can probably condense two books into each season, _A Short Victorious War_ and _Field of Dishonor,_ for example, would tie up the Pavel Young arc. _Flag in Exile_ and _Honor Among Enemies_ could also be a single season where we explore Grayson and give the Havenites more depth. That would be an acceptable place to end the series, but ideally they would do _In Enemy Hands_ and _Echoes of Honor_ where they introduce Hamish as a love interest and Honor returns from the dead, in triumph. At that point, I think you could end the series on a high note.
