Have just finished books 1-8 for the 3rd time and I'm so overwhelmed by the stories. I keep find out about someone or something I missed and I keep getting g more excited about the next books I just ordered. THANK YOU FOR SUCH A GREAT STORY
I was thinking the other day, what if Honor had not been put on half-pay and had to continue her naval career in the GSN instead. It seems clear she would have gone on to be the flag captain of a battlecruiser squadron in White Haven's campaign to take Trevor's Star. My guess is that fairly quickly she'd have been offered a position as either White Haven's chief of staff or as his operations officer, which would have been a psychological wrench because it would have been giving up the white beret, at least temporarily. From there you could maybe have gotten the White Haven romance story, but only if Tankersly had somehow died. And then, when she's eventually promoted to commodore, you have the heavy cruiser squadron and the "In Enemy Hands" story...
Aaaaaaahhhhh! David! Don't talk about things like you not being around to "finish" the Honorverse! I mean, sure, Honor got to retire, and that's all good and all, BUT! There's the whole Mesan Alignment thing that needs to be told. That's one of my big fears, is that you have SO MANY other story commitments (which are all good, don't get me wrong) but it kind of feels important that you carry through on your major (to me, anyway) character/storylines. Of COURSE, I want ALL your other storylines written about also. I'd LOVE for Merlin to take down the Gbaba, and then there's the Sharona, Arcana fight. And the long running good vs evil fight in Bazell's universe, and all the other equally important universes that have your name written on them, and there's only a (fairly) limited amount of workable time for all of these thing to be addressed. Of course YOU are the deciding voice behind all of these varied things, but hopefully some of your story telling partners can (with your input, and outlines) help to advance all of the different storylines to help get all of that story telling wonderfulness out into the light of day. I know it sounds selfish, but you're the "pusher" who's gotten us all "hooked" and invested into your worlds. But, know this.... ALL of your work is DEEPLY APPRECIATED by all of your devoted fans. So try and concentrate on being around for a looonng time, so we can bask in the WONDER that is in your fantastic story telling head. 0_0 👍 ❤David Weber❤ Robert, please pass on my sentiment to David. Thanks so much!
Indeed. I would be a Sad Panda if we don't have proper resolutions to at least the Mesa situation, the Sharona/Arcana conflict, and the War God series. I hope outlines for all the unfinished series are written and left in capable hands... and that hack writers aren't subsequently allowed to ignore said outlines to pump out garbage like KJA did with Duniverse.
Yeah, that worked out well enough. I still regret not having Jeffrey Sinclair around for the full run. I think his presence for the entire story would have brought far more poignancy to his line, "I tried to warn them, but it all happened just the way I remembered."
That was JMS's EXCELLENT planning, and understanding that "shit happens". He wrote what he called "trapdoors" into EVERY character, on the off chance that they wouldnt be available for the full 5 years. Not only did this foresight pay off with Captain Sinclair, but also with Lyta Alexander, although Patricia Tallman, thankfully, was able to rejoin the show later on down the line. But the stories that JMS wanted to tell were told with Sheridan and Talia (who I really loathe)...and he hardly missed a beat.
Heinlein's intent with The Number Of The Beast, was to explore the universe as literature concept. I didn't particularly care for the concept but did like some of the interactions. It was a way I think for him to short circuit fan adaptions of his works. I know that he became disgusted with fandom in the late 60'sand never attended another convention. But fandom was becoming more and more toxic every year.I stopped going to conventions in the 80's. I started making products for fantasy fans and found them much less rabid. Today I just don't have the will or the energy to deal with OCDfandom like jojo rabbit or the ultra specialized game fans. They have lost the critical thinking that Heinlein and others required of their readers.

As far as character changes Babylon 5 did a very good job patching in character changes.

@@vedlashouseofoldtvcommerci2340 Unfortunately, mental illness got in the way. Rather sad how it ended up for the actor.

The best was the evolution of G'Kar and Lando.
Then there's "The Number Of The Beast."
