DIY Basement Wine Cellar - LOUDER
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.4 года назад
I built this custom wine cellar in my basement. The cellar has fir and birch cabinetry and wine racks on 2 walls. It holds approximately 400 bottles in the racks. I built them myself in my woodshop but frankly none of it was difficult. I spent about $600 total. A ton of insulation keeps it at 62 degrees F in summer and winter. Door $100, insulation $120, drywall $80, lumber $150, lighting $120,...

DIY Basement Wine Cellar - Cheap but Fully Custom
Good video but you seem to have high expectations for a $200 sandblast cabinet
Forget the filter modification, its not worth the expense or time to install. Gravity is your best filter. The sediment on the bottom is your filter. Add a couple magnets to the bottom, in or out of the tub, to hold metal shavings from your pump area. Use diesel fuel, forget that $10+ per gallon sht...
Anyone who has a brain knows about government waste. A lean and mean government will make a stronger America 🇺🇸
These are extremly quiet, very little vibration if any and dont bog. They work great for the price
Almost zero difference. It's not about media starving, it's about perfect ratio between media and air. 33%. Media being sucked into a pipe from below, or dropping into some pipe outside of cabinet does not mix all the time, so it creates surges. It's not lack of air as assumed. It's lack of correct mix at ALL TIMES. This way (video above) of doing things actually makes it worse, because more pressure is required to suck sand at longer distance. There is a super simple way of doing it, but I'm shocked no one did it. Can't show it, because people will patent it. Been using them and building them since the 80s. My suction blasters clean faster than most direct pressure cabinets on youtube. Takes a year of try and error and an insane logical mind. Blasters have a sweet spot and you need to find it. 101PSI is the peak. 33% media is the sweet spot. Nozzle size, compressor, air hose, sand hose, gun and media size must meet in the middle to create balance, then it will be a monster. Otherwise you will always fight it, or not be optimal. Just put 2 compressor motors on top of a 60 gallon tank. That will give you 30 CFM of air for about $400 or find two 5hp pumps on facebook and put it together. Run 1/2 inch hose to a self build gun with no pedal and no trigger. That will be enough to blast even frames. Air must come out with a 1 inch hose from the tank and get it super close to the cabinet and then reduce to a true 1/2 inch. No Chicago Fittings, no stupidity. You must message every fitting. No orifice anywhere. Takes time, but worth it. Don't pay more than $50 for anything.
You talk to much!
Stop over enunciating !!!
Thanks for the idea!! Made my own for my small parts washer.
Copper plate easy fix just use a clamp.
You could defiantly upgrade that air-vent you made and make a nice bell shaped curve and throw in an AC vent coil because we ask for nothing, but perfection. I appreciate the recommendation on sealant and gun sprayer
Can you tell me about the gloves that go with this unit?
What you are going to find is that the garbage drops out of the solvent and forms a tar like mess on the bottom of the tank. It would be much better to make this thing a dry sump washer (let the solvent drain into a pail below the tank). You should let the solvent go through a filter between the tank and the pail. Then pump "clean" solvent out of the pail. If you ever want to soak something in solvent, just close the petcock.
Sorry PSI is what makes the difference. You really need a big hp compressor and big tank. Use some paint remover, a scotch pad, rinse and then blast to get the final finish you want. Your media will stay cleaner longer and the job will take much less time.
That is good but I am sure you will come to regret not putting that support under the grate inside because I have seen a bunch of cabinets that heavy stuff has bent those down, good luck
increase your nozzle size, and use a piece of regular 1/2 garden hose for media pickup feed. blast at 90psi. it will make your unit blast like crazy
I feel for you, seriously. I'm rebuilding, ground up, a BJ8, I installed a brand new 880.00 Aus windscreen, looked glorious, next morning it had cracked. Not as serious as your problem, but devastating none the less.. I have a spare block you could have for free, but shipping cost would be......
I have seen recently someone added a larger ceramic tip and got a considerable difference as well, Thanks for the video and explanation of what you have done and doing,
Tochic for me
Great job I am in the process of designing a wine rack for my house and this is perfect. I like the simplicity of your design and like you I have an abundance of Fir available to me. Thanks for the tour you do beautiful work!
What size air compressor your running?
Good job, I have a smaller washer but have done some of those things, remote oil filter is next, I'm in the process of cleaning/trying to reuse the not very old (but very dirty) fluid, right now. Was getting a "remote, filter relocation device" for my hotrod, guess I'll get two. 😊 BTW, that drain valve you installed is called a *Ballcock* (aka "ball valve," [save the jokes], it has a ball shaped shutoff in it). :)😊 It's not a *petcock* which, though they can both do the job you have, here... Are very different and a ball valve can do much more/different applications. I'm not just "arm chair sniping" at you, I just want people to be able to ask for the right thing when they try to mimic your ideas. 😊
Use talc to remove tack from silicone
Great job! Got a question, what is your favorite media to use for car parts, like metal that is just thicker than body panels, Inner fender wells to upper control arms and maybe thicker metal such as the differential?
How do you dispose of the solvent?
Those look like Austin Healey parts to me. Thanks for the video. 1 question - is the gun a harbor freight special or was it replaced too?
Great channel! We are getting ready to restore the same model car. When will you have an update?
What kind of compressor do you use?
Great video. What is the width of your unit that is 6 bottles wide ?
Excellent, but you could maybe save a lot of time by using butcher block.
I was using wood I already had but regardless this method is WAY cheaper than buying a pre-made top.
What is the psi you are using.
Before you're going to be able to get much use out of this, You'll have to make sure that your compressor is capable of producing the volume necessary to be worthwhile.... Just saying...
the replacement gloves are junk! always rip at seam and if there is any amount of solvent ot reside on your hands the gloves melt! I now make my own tips on my lathe using all thread nuts with one end turned down to 1/2 od and use a set bolt to install it in the gun. They last ok but cheap and I can make a bunch. I made a new siphon tube and hose for more volume. As for ft glass i use plexiglass cut to original glass size and use blue painters' tape to hold it down to the cabinet. I get it from work the pieces they throw away. As for media I use black diamond 000 coal- works great. A shop vac is my dust remover. My cabinet is over 20 years old and still works great! Make different size gun tips to accommodate the best flow at 120 psi
Great video! God bless!
I bought one and 'bout to put it to good use
Maaate, We have the same cabinets for sale in Australia. I assembled mine, used it once, then stripped it down and modified it. Seal all seams and around the view glass with silicone sealant, as you screw it all together. That will stop dust blowing out everywhere. I changed the gun to a bigger type, with no trigger, operated by a foot control instead, got rid of the 12v fluoro globe and installed 12v led spotlights, covered with replaceable plastic bags for protection - because there is never enough light in the cabinet, a regulator between the foot pedal and the gun, reinforced rubber low pressure hydraulic hoses, a cyclonic dust separation set up, like yours, nitto fittings with a larger internal diameter and an inline high capacity exhaust fan to draw everything flying around in the cabinet out. It now operates like a large commercial blast cabinet that I was more familiar with using. A little extra work and expense, but still cheaper than a $2500 cabinet and I have saved thousands in blasting costs. A rough blast with river sand, repair any damage visible, then a second blast with 30 micron glass beads. It anneals the alloy if an alloy part and gives it a shine that lasts years. Note: If you are trying to blast painted steel parts, put them in large tub of water with caustic soda added, the paint will hose off after a few days. Then into a tub of plain white vinegar from the supermarket, most rust will hose off after a few days, prior to bead blasting. You will reduce your working time by 80-90%. As well as saving on electricity and wear on your equipment. 🇦🇺👍
3:18 I'd recommend Alcohol based cleaner. It is non toxic and is working absolutely great
Thank you for the video
Chris I love everything you did on this Harbor Freight Parts washer . I think the only way to get anything clean is to use real solvent like what you have here , which is not water-based crap . I do like how you did the filter arrangement at least that preserves the solvent quite a bit .
oh hells yeah! way faster!
Any chance you have the brand of paint used and the paint code? I have a BN2 that I'm going back with the Healey Blue and Old English White. I really like the way yours turned!
I'm so sorry I didn't see this comment until just now! RUclips has stopped notifying me. The blue is a Chrysler color called Winter Chill Effect. Code is JBA through Chromax. If it helps you email me and I can send you a photo of the exact mix using Chromabase. The white is a basic Templeton White which is a Ford Thunderbird color but it's basically the exact same as any good Old English off-White. It's closer to a warm creme color in my mind that I love. I spent HOURS trying to get the right blue. Let me know if I can help. csarneson at gmail
Can you reuse the media ?
what size bolts on the glass frame? and also any water/oil separator?
Interesting video, I'd like to make my shot blaster better. To cope with the air flow, what sort of CFM is needed?
Why is noone talking about air PRESSURE? Air pressure from the compressor equates with air VACUUM drawing grit from the reservoir and therefore the *speed and number of particles* out of the nozzle. Yes, diameter and volume of hoses and fittings is important, but equally is so pressure/vacuum draw. I have a raised hanging 8 litre bucket of grit ABOVE the cabinet (with a feed funnel out its bottom), using gravity to partially feed to the gun. This greatly improves the volume of grit out as well as gun nozzle pressure because vacuum needed is reduced. Sure, it needs refilling each half hour, but that is when I strain it to remove flakes of rubbish, which only lessen cutting efficiency if they are fed back in ... and go round and round.
What type of media are you using?
So you put your filter after your pump? Wouldn’t you want to filter it before it goes into the pump? To keep dirt and particles out of the pump.
What media and media size are you using in the video ?
Chris, I can't stand your fading voice. You might think it's cool but trust me it sucks
How did you lift the car onto the rotisseri?
I am so sorry I didn't see this comment until just now. RUclips has stopped notifying me of comments apparently. The bare chassis is surprisingly light. It's only 350 lbs I think so I could basically just pick up one end using my legs. The first time I think I used a floor jack but that wasn't necessary once I realized I could just lift it.
What blast media are you using with this set up?
