I've always thought that the Healeys were one of the most beautiful cars ever. They have never had wood frames. The only cars I know of that did are Morgans. Thanks for the interest regardless!
Yep, Morgans were/ are Birch I believe. Healeys used a rather ordinary gauge sheet, formed into a rectangular tube then welded closed leading to lots of area inside the tube that would rust over time. Hence sagging frames on many seen today. Imagine a restored Healey with a new frame (from Canada...)
That's a longer story that would probably require a couple of adult beverages. The short answer is we resleeved and then ultimately I got a new block. Putting it back together now.
@@chrisarneson8644 Sorry to hear that, I was hoping for a good outcome on the original block. Thanks for the vids , I enjoy them quite well. What would be your thoughts on the bottom ring not being necessary?
Hi Chris, Out of interest i managed to buy a set of new old stock pistons in the U.S. I was told by expert engine builders to leave the bottom ring out as it is not needed. What do you think?. Regards, David Roberts.
I'm not really an expert on these engines. Clearly Healeys have 5 rings where modern engines commonly have only 3 rings now. I've heard of people skipping a ring but I don't think I would probably do that. The bottom ring is the oil scraper ring too so even if I wanted to skip a ring I'm not sure that's the one I'd skip. Maybe you should run your question by the experts at BritishCarForum.com.
nice jig for grinding the rings! thanks for sharing
Always thought these were interesting cars. Didn’t they have wood frames too?

So what happened with the crack in the cylinder? Did you resleeve or replace.
