You're carrying on... Glad to hear it. Not how you start but rather how you finish. Something like that. Recently "almost" finished a '74 GMC Sprint I bought as a field fine in 1987. Reassembled as it had been and drove for 15 years. Determined to restore after I retired. brainstorm. Better do the expensive part before I retire. Good plan, poorly executed. Shop I (worked) with bid engine at $8950. Never quite delivered so after the lawsuit and mostly having money returned, body done and paint for way more than I'd thought but nicer too, it all began running a month ago. Smogged, licensed and insured. $50, invested over 5 years and might bring $15, after it's really finished. Local hot rod shop estimated another 5 grand to finish-finish, whatever that means, But I did it. Is there an easier way? Don't have any idea to this day. Don't know what to do with it now either. Tenacity requires being tenacious.

+James Tennier For better or worse I'm going to try to do the vast majority of the work myself. It could take me a while...

Chris; your plan is as it should be I'll wager. I trusted others without them being worthy. difficult nut to crack.
In the process I learned I was more capable than I would have imagined, just not by much.
Didn't weld but should have tryed to learn.
I've "painted" before but the outcome was always bit less than this time paying the pro.
Too old for another attempt now but aren't.

Well done Chris! Aren't they a wonderful piece of engineering? IMHO, I don't think the pitting on the cone clutch member will be a problem. Also, the pitting on the 3rd gear appears to be on the syncro cone section of the gear. This may also be ok, but if you can get the parts play it safe. How is the layshaft?

+matthew randell I have a 2nd and 3rd gear on the way. I was worried that they might damage the laygear. The layshaft is pristine. I had expected to replace it but see no real wear on it. I'm amazed at how much fun the mechanicals have been. Don't tell my wife but I keep thinking that the next Healey I restore will be a 100/4!

      Hi Chris
yes, I like the four cylinders too, but I don't think I could face restoring another car in the near future.

1st gear is usually the worst and the best to clean is using paraffin not wire wheel. Only use wire wheel to clean up the remants of the gaskets and seals
