How Kimi Antonelli can make F1 HISTORY.
With our youngest driver in many years joining the grid there is the very rare opportunity for some records to be broken, some that have stood for 15 years!
But will Kimi live up to the hype, or is he another over rated youngster thrown into F1 too young?
The 2025 season will reveal all.

All a bit premature?
@@daveroberts1099 certainly could be! But I think he’s a super exciting prospect for the future. It’s rare to have a driver so young enter F1! So some of there records are almost impossible to beat
He’s one to watch! Great vid! So many rookies in the last few years. Soon enough the grid will look completely different to when I started watching f1
Thank you! It’s scary to think that soon we won’t have Lewis and Alonso on the grid, Hulk too!
This is becoming a very bad joke now, the FIA needs to go... Dave is not a fan!
@@DaveLovesCars certainly is mate! They need to be careful. Their reputation is worsening by the day
I do wonder how kimi will compare to his teammate George.. both great drivers..it would be great to see the Mercedes do well this year. Very exciting to see a rookie in a top formula 1 team. This kid could definitely break some records.
@@sneepsnoop-t7o I think GR will definitely have the edge at least in the early part of the year, but time will tell!
Will Kimi live up to the hype or is he another young driver put in too soon? 👇
If George will let him.. ha ha
@@sneepsnoop-t7o I don’t think he will have a choice 🤔
I have followed this kid since the beginning of his career, very exciting. Can’t wait to see what he is capable of 🤜🏼
How good! I bet he was incredible to see in the junior categories. I watched a bit of the F4 and all of his F2 racing.
Kimi will beat some of these records! make no mistake, he is super talented and his speed is unquestionable. just wait and see what this boy can do!
@@DaveLovesCars I certainly hope we can see some record beaten! Been a while since they have been.
Antonelli has all the driving tools , what remains to be discovered is whether he has the mental strength to handle the pressure at this level , the expectation that he is the next wunderkid is a huge weight to carry. And it has crushed the hopes of so many before him . If he's handled well at Mercedes he will flourish and I wish him success . His talent is unquestioned , what remains to be seen is how he handles the mind games in F1. I've spent the last few weeks watching Arvid Lindblad in our local series and this young man is extremely fast , talented and above all mentally unflappable . He excites me as much , if not more than Kimi . I can't wait to see them head to head in the near future .
Many other young drivers have crumbled in the same environment! Maybe merc have learnt from other teams that maybe Kimi might take a while to bed in fully! I’m super hyped for Arvid, he seemed to dominate over in TRS (or whatever it’s called now) super excited young prospect! I’ll be watching him in F2 at the Aus gp!
The youngest pole sitter record is quite likely to be broken by him. I also believe he might win a race or two in his rookie year, however probably not during the early rounds of the championship. He will still have to learn and adjust at first.
I think so too! As long as merc are competitive he could definitely score a few wins this year. Just hope that he’s close enough to George that it could happen!
Does this mean that Russia is no longer banned from having drivers in F1?
Surely it does right? Bring back Nikita…maybe not him…
@ yea maybe not him but surely they can't forbid other Russians from driving under the Russian flag now
@ you would think, I’m sore the FiA would find a way to say no
@@Chrisgpracing yea for sure, just curious of how they would justify it =P
@ I’m sure with some very vague reasoning haha
Motor sport is not F1. F1 is a small number of motor races each year and a multi million pound business with all involved only interested in money, money, money. Without it, genuine motor sport fans we would still have lots of real motor sport. The Fia is supposed to be the world governing body for motor sport but it is far too obsessed with F1 and its own self importance to the detriment of the actual SPORT F1 should be left to fend for itself, the Fia closed down and the ASNs responsible for national Motor Sport in each country should get together and form a new world governing body of people actually concerned with and about the sport and not money and personal aggrandisement.
I agree. The FIA is more interested in fining drivers than trying to improve motorsport as a whole. Thanks for the comment dude
This isn’t really related to the video but watching your content has inspired me to make my own F1 content and I just want to say thank you ☺️
That’s amazing man! I just subbed to your channel. Whats your first video going to be about?
IM SO PROUD OF YOU ‼️‼️‼️‼️ I love your perspective on F1 issues and junior categories. I’m so hype to keep watching
Thank you so much mate that means the world to me 🧡
I think that the FIA in itself is a religious statement. When the higher ups within the FIA present awards they are permitted to wear religious head coverings, but a driver can’t be religiously affiliated⁉️ It just doesn’t make much sense to ban normal every day human things because they aren’t “appropriate” for younger viewers. If anyone is that worried about the things the drivers believe/say they should watch the F1 Kids channel and move on with their life. In no other sport is swearing or religious beliefs so tightly controlled then within motorsport and F1. I just think if the FIA doesn’t stop messing with what people can do it will spark massive backlash and loss of respect.
That’s a very good point! So many higher ups within the FIA are very religious. I think the issue is they don’t want western religious statements to be made…
Trying to ask from the drivers not to swear when the adrenaline rush is at peak is unbelievably stupid. Ben Sulayem is trying to be a dictator in an organization that needs open minds. All the drivers in every race are trying to avoid him because he is unwanted. And you can see that in many races either pre race or post race. I would have expected a reaction from the drivers that if all these measures are going to apply then they will not race until they are lifted. Equality means that everyone can express him/her self equally. And not under retarded guidlines.
That’s your best video so far mate! FIA is run by a guy who totally admonishes human rights in his own country, where they are well known to have a shocking record. Let’s discuss swearing - really? “Jesus Christ this is bullshit and the FIA are useless - just a personal opinion”. IF a driver said that there is a 1 month ban and 120K fine right there !! On a separate note if you haven’t got into WEC then have a look. I’m a huge fan of F1 and have been to 10+ races but the racing in WEC is equal if not better. Keep doing what you do Chris.
Thank you so much mate means a lot! Honestly I’d love it if every driver came out and said that at the first weekend of the year, what are you going to do ban all of them? I do fine the idea of WEC really interesting, I’ve watched parts of the 24HR LeMans before but never a whole race. Are they all as long? There’s 8 and 12 hours races too right?
@@Chrisgpracing Yes all the races are long - 6, 8, 12, 24 hours - you’re never going to watch the whole thing- you just tune in every now and then - or watch the highlights. But it is amazing - they have BOP - Balance Of Performance - where after each race they adjust the handicap of each car so that they are evenly matched..Some run naturally aspirated engines, some run turbos etc there is no mandate on what you have to run. So they even the playing field with BOP - add ballast or restrict turbos or whatever and regardless of manufacturer they’re all in effect handicapped so they run the same lap times. It is cool. I’ve been to 1 race at Mt Fuji and it was more exciting than any F1 race I’ve seen live - having said that - all the races I watch and follow F1 on are on TV now. The WEC is multiple category - they compete in different classes and within every class they run different engines it is mad. Hope you’re enjoying Australia Day here in Sydney Chris.
@@Chrisgpracing I also recommend the American IMSA Sportscar Championship. Both series are absolutey worth your time. Your standard WEC race is 6h long, but there is an 8h and a 10h race as well and Le Mans of course. IMSA race distances are more variable. Their standard is a 2h 40min sprint with some being shorter still. Then there are 5 enduros: 24h Daytona (which is on right now), 12h Sebring, 10h Road Atlanta and two 6h races at Watkins Glen and the Indy Road Course. Sportscar racing might be a bit tricky to fully understand at first but once you do, I think it‘s more entertaining than most F1 races. Another advantage is, that the FIA isn‘t the only organization responsible. WEC is co-organized by the FIA and the French automobile club ACO. So the FIA doesn’t have that much grip on WEC and none at all on IMSA. It‘s pure racing, less bullshit and way more accessible for fans who don’t want to spend hundreds on just one ticket or a pay-TV deal.
yawn. f1 is getting silly. completely agree
@@charlesleburp certainly is! I don’t know why the fia don’t focus more energy into other aspect of the sport. Thanks for the comment dude 👊
Great video as always
Thank you so much ☺️ Appreciate it!
If it continues like this, I can see drivers like Max and Lewis walk away from the sport before 2026 gets underway. Questionable new regulations, ridiculous fines for virtually nothing and a FIA boss who wants to rule the entire thing all by himself... I wouldn't blame them.
I wouldn’t blame them either! The sport is getting more and more ridiculous every year. Max is definitely no fan of this kind of management
Wouldn't it be nuts if a championship is decided by this nonsense? Unfortunately it's not easy untangle from the FIA. I think the drivers are going to rebel if they follow through with it
Honestly if that did happen I feel like everyone would stop watching. If you can’t manage a sport well the fans would just stop! It’s a real shame to think something could be decided on something like that.
@Chrisgpracing Yup. Non-sporting action/issue should never have a sporting impact! Bizzare
@ I don’t follow any other sports really so I’d be curious to know if there’s anything like this in other sports. I can’t imagine a footballer calling a referee something colourful and having a goal disallowed haha
@@Chrisgpracing a lot of sports have rules about not bringing the sport into disrepute but never seen anything this before. Usually it's about cheating or something like that!
I mean that makes sense! Cheating obviously should be handled very differently that swearing haha!
I imagine Carlos Sainz Sr. Being a great FIA president. I don't belive O. Ben sulaiem is doing a great work....
Carlos SR would be a fantastic choice! As long as he doesn’t show too much in favour of little Carlos! MBS really need to go asap… time and time again he has shown he’s not fit to lead.
@Chrisgpracing I think The Sainz are incredible honest, hard working, with a name of being good people in The sport. I think he will rather put his son in The last place than to be not honorable. I think he will be great. But I belive that it is not about honor, but about having petro euros.... And we will have to tolerate middle eastern rulers for ever...
I think its always gonna seem like f2 champions are underwhelming since in F2 someone new has to win every year. But in F1, especially this century, world champions are often won in streaks. In 25 years of 2000s, 20 were won by 4 drivers. Additionally, a lot of really good drivers like Max and (hopefully) Antonelli will get in and out of f2 before they get a chance to succeed. So I don't think it's just the unpredictability of f2 or the lack of spk sort for certain f2 drivers holding anyone back.
@@nathangaspacio6128 that’s a very good like dude! If a champion can’t return then it makes sense that some champions are almost by “default”.
F1 is getting silly i just want to watch the best drivers in the world race. I wonder if there are any issues like this in other racing series like indycar
Im sure this is happening in all sports, but it really seems like it is always a talking point for us in F1!
The fines are getting crazy 🙃
They really are! I definitely couldn’t afford them 😂
Clowns
Its a real shame the FIA has decided to run things like this... They could choose to work with F1 and the drivers instead of seemingly hating the drivers and everythign they stand for. Something needs to be done ASAP, they are clowns!!!!! 🤡
Exactly! The FIA needs to be careful with how the act. F1 needs the FiA less than the FIA needs f1…
We just want pure hard racing 🗣️🗣️🗣️ What is this nonsense. Ban the fia
Exactly Bob! racing is all that matters not the words they say
You remembered my name 🤠
Couldnt agree more!
Mecachrome is the reason F2 stinks; it's a total lottery if you get a good engine.
The engine lottery plays a huge role! So many championships have been decided because of it. I don’t know how F2 haven’t changed the engine is so many years, a real shame!
The way McLaren loved to chew up and throw out drivers really is crazy… McLaren machine strikes again
They do seem to go through drivers!
You have to remember, as of recently formula one has had a HUGE spike in popularity. I’ve been a fan since I was a young kid and now people who would have never been fans before are! (This isn’t a bad thing) this makes formula one a bigger stage than ever and this most definitely sets some kind of expectation in rookies, especially when formula one drivers are often regarded as “the greatest drivers in the world”
@@rhysahkiin123 that’s a very good point! F1 now is arguably the most competitive it has ever been so the standard for rookies must be higher!
No it isn't the current F1 rookies prove it. Colapinto, Bearman and Lawson did very well on F1. The most important thing it's moderate F2 experience not being a champion of F2 or an old timer of F2 like DeVries (He really did well at Williams). Drivers capable of winning Feature races should earn Super Licence, that's enough for F1, Race winners from Super Formula and Indycar also.
That’s a very cool idea! I’m hate how the FIA doesn’t recognise certain series!
18:05 Williams improved after Logan left. Logan would’ve scored as well, more than likely
It’s certainly possible. But Logan causes his own end. He was told to keep it out of the wall, and binned it the next practice session.
@ IMO they should’ve just sacked him after Belgium (before the summer break) Zandvoort definitely made things worse but he was also let down by being behind in upgrades when Albon had it up to date too.
@ could have been the play for sure!
17:00 in defense of Mick, he had a very close average finish to Kevin
I guess the crashing was his biggest issue. And the lack of consistency! I do feel bad for mick tho. The pressure that came with his make must have been tough
@ True, Mick was still a little hap-hazard
@ I do think it’s a shame he left so sooon. But hass needed results
I think networking is so much more important than winning F2 in the current climate UNLESS you do it in your rookie season. I don't think Gabriel would have gotten a seat in F1 this year if he a) hadn't worn and b) Franco hadn't shown the teams how much potential there was in the South American market still. The reason Drugovich, in particular (despite the South American background), wasn't offered a seat in my opinion was because he took 3 tries to win it. I think teams just think that if it takes multiple tries (particularly if it's as part of the same team) that they just don't think the driver is special and ignore them. Antonelli and Bearman probably have the most secure F1 seats of the 2025 rookies, and that's because they networked well, were in stable driver academies, and had good results pre-F2. How they did in F2 was kind of irrelevent. Granted with the reg change this year's F2 was a bit fucked regardless, but I still think it shows that in recent years the F1 teams simply do not care about F2 unless someone surprises them by winning in their rookie season.
Some very good points there! I agree completely. Winning the title as a rookie seems to almost guarantee you a seat. I wonder if there’s been any driver to win as a rookie and not get a seat? I’ll look into that! And yes being part of a junior team is massively important. It’s very rare we see a driver promoted who isn’t part of a major team in f1.
i think it’s more an f1 is extremely uncompetitive problem than an f2 isn’t representative problem. also formula two was a fake racing series created by jonathan palmer to get jolyon some clout by rigging it for him. bring back world series by renault that was a real junior formula 🥲
Tbf there are loads of different junior championships that all of these drivers have won, but there’s definitely some problems with F2
Talking about Bortaletto, being in the worst car on the grid for a few seasons didn't do Georgie Boy's reputation/standing any harm, in fact arguably just the opposite.
@@I_Evo yeah that’s a very good point! He could have a few years at the back getting used to F1 with out too much pressure on him like George did! I’ll still always think of little Georgie boy as a Williams driver
Great video! I love finding new channels that aren't like the generic Formula 1 stuff that's everywhere now.
@@crelgen1588 cheers mate I appreciate it! Thanks for following along, glad to have you here!
It's like we need a F1.5
I fear it would just become another f2, super formula is sort of an F1.5 though? The cars are closer to F1 than the F2 car is. But it’s only is Asia, where as f2 is very euro centric
So glad you chose Stoffel to talk about. I watched GP2 religiously from it's inception. The first half of that title winning season, he was unlike any driver that had been in F2. He was dominant and untouchable!! It was what I imagine watching Clark, Senna, G.Hill was like. Thought he'd rise up the F1 ladder in no time and be fighting at the front.
Thank you mate! I think Stoffel was such a cool driver to cover for this video. Dominant and untouchable indeed. It’s a shame he ended his career the way he did
@@Chrisgpracing Stefano Coletti would be a good one to look at for a video. He was running rampant the first 8 races of 2013 GP2 season for Rapax. Then fell off a cliff for some reason. Love the video, pleasant tone of voice to listen to as well! May be a bit bold, but a video I have seen no one do as of yet, Formula 1 has now completed 75 seasons exactly. What if you compare the first 25 years with the second and third 25 years? I think it could be interesting because some facts I noticed: First 25 years: 14 different champions second 25 years: 13 different champions Third 25 years: 8 different champions Also, in the first 50 years of Formula 1 the most back to back championships was 4, only done by Fangio who also held the record for most championships with 5. In the last 25 years, both records were broken by Schumacher. But interestingly after that not only did Hamilton also overtake Fangio by getting more championships but Vettel, Hamilton and now Verstappen have all claimed 4 back to back championships, something only achieved once in the first 50 years of Formula 1. I didn't do any other numbers, but I can imagine checking the different constructor champions, the amount of one off Champions etc. would give some interesting results as well. Makes you kinda wonder where F1 is heading, because it seems like the sport has become way more predictable lately. Sorry if I am overstepping here, I was just a bit surprised that I couldn't find any yt videos that go deeper into this.
Thank you very much for the comment! That sounds like an amazing ideas idea, I’m sure it would take a while to put together but I’ll definitely look into it. Comparing eras is always difficult but we can do our best!

@@Actualsmybruv cheers bro appreciate it 💪
amazing breakdown! very informational mate 🙌
Thank you very much 🙏 glad you enjoyed it mate
Yet another job well done mate! As far as I've heared, Vandoorne's problem in F1 was the braking. His driving style in GP2 apparently relied heavily on braking super late and very hard, which wasn't possible in the same way in F1. I'm not 100% sure if this is true, but it might be an explanation. Though I could also imagine the mental capacity you mentioned being the issue. Because remember: Vandoorne made his F1 debut in 2016, during one of the slowest periods in recent F1 history. Robin Frijns and Raffaele Marciello, who were F1 test drivers back then actually mentioned, that their GP2 or in Frijns' case Formula Renault 3.5 lap times weren't too far off F1. Vandoorne's full-time debut however came in 2017, when the cars gained seconds a lap compared to the early hybrid era. Maybe this step was too much for him, since all F1 cars he had driven before were probably from 2014-2016. Regarding the main question: Of course winning a title is never going to harm your career. But I have to say, that F2 in its current state is a bit of a joke: The cars are unequal, due to varying team budgets and engine performances. The cars are also terribly unreliable and not even close to what a Formula 1 car is. That's exactly why Red Bull will often times send their juniors to Super Formula as the final preparation for F1. Super Formula is much closer to what F2 should be than F2 itsself. Also, F2 is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what you get out of it as a driver.
Amazing conten. Keep up the good work :D
Thank you very much!!
i think another problem with F2 into F1 is the way people talk about you as a driver. in F2 people talk about you but with a bit of doubt because you are a rookie. but as soon as you get into F1 people treat you like you are god level even as a rookie, with all of that pressure i think it makes it even harder to preform to the best of your abilities
That’s a very good point! A lot of people that that F1 is not a “finishing school” you should already be ready as soon as you enter the paddock.
Super Formula's where it's at! Great job on the channel by the way Chris!
I really want to get into super formula, I’ve watched a bit of it when Liam Lawson was racing there. Looks like a super (get it?) competitive field!
Congratulations on the 1k subs ! Onward and upwards bro !!
@@tonyrata4796 cheers Tony! Glad to have you along for the journey!
I'll be here at the end of the year to argue the results with you !!! Good luck .
I wonder if it's the car? I mean, I'm sadly not that much into the technicals of the sport (even after all these years), but I did hear that there was an attempt by the powers-that-be to make the F2 cars closer to the specs of the F1 cars. Could it be that there's a significant enough gap between how an F2 car handles to an F1 - nevermind the RBxx Max drives , I'm sure you've all heard or seen the Albon interview - that rookies who master their F2 car (like the champions) suddenly find themselves lacking the confidence to properly drive in F1? Look at Bearman. Not stellar in F2 but dropped into TWO DIFFERENT F1 cars, he performs better than half the veterans of the Grid. Same with Lawson, no matter what the Tsunoda apologists say. Meanwhile, the heralded next coming of Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli, bins George's (or was that Lewis'?) Merc his first time behind the wheel, At least De Vries puts his Williams on P8 on an emerg call. No matter what happened to him after at VCarb, De Vries DID make that mark.
@@ashaide really good points made here thank you! I think bearman is a really good shout, did really well in f3, didn’t really find his feet in f2, but did wonders in one off appearances in f1? And Lawson too, bet finish of p3 in f2, but looks to already have the measure of Yuki (a 4 year driver) so maybe it’s more about adapting to the new car? Really excited to see how they both (and all rookies) get in next year 🏎️
