What it’s like working a 7-hour night shift at Subway in Sydney, Australia
Hi guys! In this video I’m gonna show you what a 7-hour night shift at Subway looks like in Australia (as a supervisor). I came to Australia on a Working Holiday Visa and work here full time to obtain my second visa in order to stay another year in Australia.
I’m extremely happy with my job, the conditions and my coworkers and so far it has been one of the best times here. I couldn’t be more grateful for this journey and the opportunity to share what happens to be a big part of my daily life with you. I don’t say it often enough but I appreciate every single one of you so so much. Thank you for all the support! :)
Without you, I really don’t know if I would’ve came this far.

    Ive gotta ask this. With all this work and such very little pay, why are you choosing a working holiday visa in Australia when you could've just saved up money for a normal holiday and experienced Australia in the best possible way you could? Is the working holiday visa a way to get a permanent visa? Im not sure.

    • @Begibou
      @Begibou День назад

      It’s the quickest and easiest way to get into Australia and allows you to stay up to 3 years with no conditions other than working in certain industries. Prior to coming I wasn’t sure how long I was gonna stay which made this visa type ideal since it provides flexibility. I don’t think I would’ve came far with just doing a holiday without any income on the side. But to be honest with you, the media has done a great job at romanticizing a working holiday in Australia, which I also fell for. It is very well known in Germany and a lot of young people do it to gain life experience and explore a new culture. I wasn’t aware of the tough conditions in some of the industries and the competitive job market. I am aware now and handle things accordingly. It’s a great way to enter and explore Australia from a more local perspective and goes beyond being a tourist

    Huge contrast to what an English guy was telling me about picking watermelon in OZ. The hours were 14-16 hours really hard work but the pay was 2&1/2 times minimum wage. I get that you’re having a hard time there. It opens your mind to what some people deal with. The bruising says a lot about how tough you are. Caring for the frog says a lot about your heart. Even under stress, no life is too small to love.

  • @raceace
    @raceace День назад

    The treatment that the Australian picking industry perpetuates on its employees is disgraceful. The light touch regulation that the Immigration and labour authorities just permit blatant exploitation of a vulnerable group that in reality have very little recourse to resolve issues. Sure it's not cobalt mining in Congo but it's not certainly not conduct a supposedly developed nation should be proud of. The most frustration thing is that so many farmer who are actually suffering get lumped in with the blatantly exploitative corporatist farmers who think they're rural Elon Musks. I hope you are able to survive and don't leave Australia with too negative an experience.

    I've had English friends working on fruit picking in Victoria and they told similar stories, working 10- or 12-hour days in poor conditions for inadequate money. Frankly, I think it's nothing more than a gigantic scam - workers are desperate for visas or visa extensions, the employers rob them blind and the government turns a blind eye. It doesn't help that the farmers themselves are being squeezed dry by constant pressure from the supermarket duopoly. Essentially, foreign workers are funding corporate profits and salaries and cheaper prices at the checkout (though even they are not that cheap anymore). Sadly, Australia is not the fair and egalitarian place it once was.

    Is the farm Chinese owned? Some farms in Australia are bought by the Chinese and they employ ruthless working conditions for all. Not all farms in Australia are Australian owned. The Labour party (government) is corrupt and they sell a lot of farms and other things to China.

    I am so glad you have a job you like ! Wow, how much value do you add to Subway - it must be so obvious to them. It's wonderful to see someone who loves veggies and knows how they should be treated setting a standard. You would add so much more to Subway management if you were able to visit their suppliers and teach them how to treat their raw products. The olives were poor quality, they should investigate getting ripe, delicious kalamata olives, and there are probably dozens of other ingredients you could improve. You are such a focused, intelligent worker .. it might be the german in you !! Australia is so lucky to have you visit, all our love for how you contribute 🥰

I even wrote a song about it a long time ago: "Well most people think that a strawberry's red, but it don't feel that way to me when I get outta bed. I got something to tell ya and you know that it's true, That row after row after row after row, a strawberrys blue... I got the strawberry blues..." (Insert massive blues solo) ❤
