Finally ready to assemble the 455!!!!
Did you upgrade the pushrods to the hollow ones?
@@michaelwoods3850 Yes, the oil passages in the block were tapped and plugged. New pushrods and rockers were installed.
Did you I stall the hollow push rods or do you still have solid?
Sick! How much HP you getting on that thing?
@@manuelsanchezsmythe Chassis
Chassis dyno was just short of 800 to the tires.
So what was compression, and the camshaft specs on this Buick? Comp Cams ( Xtreme cam line) and Lunati (stage 4) have hotter grinds.
@w41duvernay This engine was built to the stage 1 specs for the year, including the camshaft.
Sounds good
@@billmiller5075 Thanks!
I had a 69 GS with a 400 stage 2 that was a torque monster
@billmiller5075 I bet! Buicks are known for it!
Sharp Buick.!
@@electrochubb Thanks!
Nice car, get rid of that chrome rad cover and stupid decals, as well as that 10 cent tach.
@user-ef3hf1et3t Thanks, I think. Anyway, the car sold
Without the tach, gauges or decals!
I like it!!!
@@stevenbowles2068 Thanks!
Why is it impossible to get 400 HP out of a Buick engine
@user-ef3hf1et3t It's not, at all. Actually, it's very easy. 500+ is not hard, either. That said, Big Block Buicks make a HUGE amount of torque at fairly low RPM. Horsepower is good to have, but I'll take torque on street engines all day long.
Stout combo 🏁
@@2HacksGarage Thanks! Ran great! I have another one almost finished!
I literally cant find a set of rocker arms for my 430 (it came without them) is there anything besides changing pushrods, lifters to make a new T.A performance Rocker arm assembly for the 455 work?
@WendysAnime If I understand your question correctly, you want to use the 455 through the pushrod oiling system. In order to do that, I tap and plug the oil passages in the block. I believe, but I'm not sure that you can do the same to the oil passages in the heads. Either way, the heads have to come off, and the metal shavings can't get into the engine!! If you don't plug the passages you'll have a heck of a mess. Once the passages are plugged, 455 lifters, pushrods, and rockers can be used.
Nice. You in Florida by chance.
@@jrgraceful I'm about as far away from Florida as you can get and still be in the US! Ha!
@@probuick3317 bummer!
Nice, gave me some ideas for mine 👍
@@455buick6 Great!
Does that distributor run off the timing gears
@@TerryDavis-p1d No. It runs off of a gear on the end of the camshaft.
@@probuick3317 ok , never seen a setup like that before , a friend of mine has an old 430-4 Buick and specs on it says they also like high rpm's for big block .
@user-rr7sb8lm6x Stock big block Buicks are made for massive low-end torque. In stock form, most made all their torque around 3K RPM. 5000 to 5500 is max in stock form, and I wouldn't do that too often. That said, they do respond to mods and can be made to put out big numbers and rev.
@@probuick3317 that's still a lot rpm's for big block
What's he running for rear end gears 3.42?
@@rogerdavis2056 Not sure. 3:42 is what I would run.
I have basically the same setup. Mines a '72 build to 70 specs, same cam, TA headers. you should make a short vid on that Run stand. what was involved in building it.
I bet it's a great runner! Good idea on the run stand.
Did you upgrade the rear seal from a rope seal to a newer neoprene seal?
Yep!
Where are ya located? I have a 71' stage 1 455 that needs rebuilt.
Pacific Northwest
Need my buick 430 redone
Well, I would do it, but it has to be local.
Sounds great!
Thanks!
Snappy when you font have 45 pounds of torque converter or clutch hanging on there.👍
That is very true!
I have a 71 vega panel express. Built like an 80's hotrod. 350 Chevy, etc etc. Have considered for some time to try installing a 455 buick. It would be different. And a monster.
Big Buicks and Oldsmobiles- great stuff. Pontiac as well, but many more Pontiacs running around compared to Buick and olds.
That engine is gonna smoke that 300 tranny😮
For sure. That said, I only use it on the run stand. It's a "mule" only. It'll never see a car again.
Too*
That looks to nice assemble.
Ha! Never thought of that, but I can't argue!
@@probuick3317 lol! That is a beauty.
I love Buicks. My dream is a 70 GS Stage1. 2ed dream is a 87 GNX.
You sir have good taste. One was a childhood dream and GNX was my 1st new car. Army life lead me to let go of the GNX in "93" with only 12k miles on the clock.
Both excellent choices!

Spray of gas at the fuel pump? Sounds just like the 462 I built from a '74 Buick 455 block. Fantastic street engine. TA is the place to go. You don;t think it will need more carb?
No gas spray at the fuel pump. I check all that closely when I'm running the engine. I think you're seeing a light change from the cooling fan. That carb. is my run stand carb., it's a Demon 750. Works great. TA is absolutely the place to go!
@@probuick3317 must be the light
They are so easy to work on and with..under the hood of my electra it was so easy..
They are easy to work on! Lots of room in the Electra!
Torque monster is looking and sounding fine!
Thanks!
Had one of those dropped in a late 70's Chev half ton that had originally the diesel 350(same housing bolt pattern) that were known to fail. What an improvement after installing the Buick engine! My 455 was out of a 68 Riviera and was all stock with 12:1 factory compression, cast manifolds and breaker points ignition. I wish I had installed a high rise intake on that one! The vehicle, none the less, was a ton of fun and scary fast.
Great story! I have given serious thought to do the same thing!
A '68 Riviera would of had a 430, the 455 didn't debut until 1970. Still a great engine built in the same platform, only difference that made it a 430 was the bore size was a bit smaller. The 430 did get the "big port" heads that supposedly flowed better than the later 455 heads. The big port 430 heads are very highly sought after in the Buick community. The weakness of them though is they are prone to cracking underneath the valve springs so you really don't want to run much more than factory spring pressures with them.😎👍
@@itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 You certainly could be right! This was many years ago and perhaps I quoted the wrong vehicle model of origin. I did have a horny 455, I'm sure. Only issue was it did not have the hardened valve seats.
Looks awesome,sounds awesome. Again.great job..
Thanks! It was a fun build!
What is your approximate location? I may be interested.
Sounds great, are you putting it in a car or is that all for that beast?
I don't have a car for it, so it's going up for sale locally. I'm not sure how much yet as I need to tally my receipts, ha!
🙈🙉@@probuick3317
back in 92 I added up parts for it was at least 10k. I dont want to know now😜
Fantastic engines. Hotrodders that didnt understand bigblock buicks always overcammed, over geared and over revved(treated it like a 327 chevy).
My engine was just so smooth running..miss that beast ..
I bet!
Looks awesome..nice job
Thanks!
if your staying stock your right it probly wont change anything except for being lighter, I believe you will see a big difference once the CR goes above 10 and you clean up the heads and add a cam. Its a air pump if you don't need more air then the go fast parts are expensive and unnecessary.
It's pretty much a stock rebuild. I did put in a TA Stage 1 cam and springs. TAs dual groove cam bearings.
Sounds great 👍
Thanks!
@@probuick3317 Yup, got an 86 Cutlass supreme I'll be putting my 70 455 in in the next few months
That'll be sweet!
I instantly knew what that intake belongs to 🤔😅 Go with the aluminum intake of course to lighten things up if nothing else
If u have room to store, spray the stock manifold with WD40 (or any light oil) bag it and store it. Chances are they will both be hard to get in the future...and the value of the original will go up more then the Edelbrock. My two cents.
Run the stock one and sell me the aluminum one.
🎉🎉20 more hp is better than stock hp
elderbrock since you have it already just paint it red no hp difference just weight and keep the engine cooler
Either way,you have a good engine. I rebuilt my 1969 430 completely stock and had no issues ..drove it 20 years.and sold it
Nice!
Install the Aluminum one and if for some reason you regret it swap them out. Have fun. Intakes are easily swapped.
Depends on how big the cam is or how stock you want it to look?
I agree. The cam is a TA Stage 1, so it's pretty mild.
Very awesome build!! My 455BB Buick and Turbo 400 came out of a Electra 225, I Rebuilt it stock at the time for lack of funds!! I did open up the intake valley oil drain and chamfered the main bearing oil holes, it went into a 79 Buick Regal for about 10 years then I sold the car, it was a fun ride for sure but I layed waste to 2 rear ends!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
I drive a 1973 Electra 225 as a daily driver.
You are living my dream ! Had a 70 Skylark Custom 350 2bbl. Put a Kenne-Bell Mark II cam in it and left everything else stock except electronic ignition and swapped the radiator for a 455's. Busted the flywheel 1st time getting on it. Lead to building the TH350. Ran out of road at 148mph (calibrated speedo) Out ran Chevelle SS 396 among others. Got 17mpg @55mph, 19 @80mph. Planned on putting the 350 in the back of a '65 Corvair convertible and putting what you built in the Skylark. Oh well didn't get the chance. Did buy a mint 87 GN. So, please tell me that you have a double roller timing chain ? REALLY love the roller rockers!
Great story! Wow! Yes, it has a double roller chain.
@@probuick3317 AWESOME 👍😎👍
@@probuick3317 One other change I made was to go one step hotter Champion plugs. I think it really helped. Also I needed to convert single exhaust to dual. The cheapest option, Doug-Thorly imitation chrome header side pipes, $110. What I was extremely proud of was the color of the soot you could see at the ends. It was the same color as a perfectly burning spark plug is supposed to be. Light chocolate. Find a Jay Leno post with him standing next to any of his cars with side pipes and you can see exactly the same light brown color. I did lots of road trips from FL to up north, 1400mi trip logs prove my mpg 😉 after 20hrs of 24, the pipes were nearly pure white. Just a little lean 😂
What are you thoughts about main studs vs. Bolts? I’ve got a 70’ built years ago and never run much, we used the KB studs.
I guess it all depends. Studs are appropriate when running a high RPM set up as well as running a forged crank. They do add strength even to a stock type set up. That said, the torque values are different when using them and, as a result if possible, they should be used when the engine is line bored in order to get a true bore.
