Isn't they just retcon this already? Kingdom key was supposed to go to Riku but with Darkness the Keyblade moves to nearest person that can wield it which is Ventus (in Sora body) It's not until Hollow Bastion where Sora proves that he got aptitude to use Keyblade

I’m sorry but this analysis really needs to be redone. Especially now after First Soldier. Sephiroth never displayed ANY of this type of “superiority” to others when sane. He fought to the point of exhaustion to save them. The scene with Angeal and Genesis is horribly translated into English. He doesn’t taunt them at all in the original translation, and even if it WERE accurately translated to the taunts, some light-hearted boyish trash-talk between grown men does not suggest inflated ego. If anyone was bleeding arrogance in that scene, it was Genesis. Sephiroth was literally upset he couldn’t be Genesis’ blood donor after the latter was injured later. Those stupid Guide/Ultimania translations on Sephiroth “not caring for others besides his friends” is a direct reference to his introversion. It’s mentioned several times in the guides and ultimanias, even the newest Rebirth one where it says “he showed compassion to others even though he was not sociable.” His declaration that he knew he was special and different is a direct admission of the truth. This was even stated in the 2005 Omega ultimania. They mention how Cloud felt he was different because of an inferiority complex, while Sephiroth felt he was different because of his ACTUAL extraordinary abilities. Of course Sephiroth was special. What frustrates me is that this one statement doesn’t indicate anything about his actual pre-insanity personality. Tifa described him as “cold” because he was fairly aloof. But that’s noted in CC too, where he is shown to be grumpy or closed off around Zack UNTIL their bond starts to develop. Then you see the true Sephiroth and he’s genuinely kind. Sephiroth did not think he was superior in this egotistical way and latch onto being a Cetra to rebuild that sense of ego in Nibelheim after a mental collapse. He was raised by a cold, militaristic company with no mother, no proper family, an asshole father in Hojo, no home, and nothing but a role to serve as a weapon. He was worshipped and over-glorified by the public but never actually embraced by anyone other than his friends for who he truly was. Shinra exploited his strength, beauty, and majesty as their poster boy, but they never let him live the normal life he wanted. He directly says he wants this in First Soldier, but also admits that it will never happen. He also never wanted to be modified or a “cyborg” human as he confesses to Glenn. But he was trained to control his power in a ruthless way, conditioned to obey Shinra’s rules, and ordered to do horrific things. All along he looked for the truth about his mother and his own origins. It was the discovery OF his birth, his mother’s monstrous being, and the collapse of his HUMAN ego, his very humanity, his sense of self, that broke his mind. He discovered he was the experiment that Shinra created for their own use. Everything he had done or endured in his life was not because Shinra had guided a wayward lost child, but because they had literally produced him to carry out their dirty work. This is even mentioned in the Before Crisis guide. Sephiroth discovers that he is, “literally a tool for Shinra.” It’s why Elfe asked him what he fought for in BC too. She could see that he was a pawn. Sephiroth discovered that his entire life was a lie constructed by Shinra in order to manipulate him into being their willing sword. It’s the most fucked up villain story in FF, and it deserves to be told properly! He did not have a superiority complex. He developed one AFTER he lost his mind and thought himself a god. That’s the whole point. The weight of his post-insanity mindset and god complex is lost if he was always an arrogant self-declared superior being. He knew he was special in a non-monstrous way for a while, but he never thought he was a demon or ghoul. That’s a reasonable assumption on his end! So, with all due respect, this analysis needs a revamp. Good day.

I always thought that it was because Mickey needed to seal the DtD from the Darkside. With Riku; ight after Ansem fully takes over Riku’s body and form and as he wakes up in the RoD Mickey states “Your heart won the battle against darkness, but it was too late for your body. That's why you're here-in this place of darkness where hearts are gathered." To me that meant that the Riku we see is actually a manifestation of his heart and because he has not been reunited with his body at the time he could not cross over.

So Sora saying the phrase, "My friends are my power" isn't inherited from Ventus?

Sora's true ability is not his ability to weild a keyblade but his heart. The ability to connect with others is a truly powerful one.

people are wondering why Riku can stick his hands out of the realm of darkness like he couldn't have just left and been with Sora instead. He wasn't about to abandon Mickey, but further, the reason he could even pass between the two realms was because he was basically just a heart at that point in time, and hearts aren't subject to a lot of rules that flesh and blood are. He likely didn't properly reconstitute and regain the part of him Ansem SoD took until later.

I've honestly always skipped kh1 in my series playthroughs, so I may be wrong.. but couldn't Sora have just flown over to that piece of destiny Island that Kairi was on? To my knowledge (I haven't beaten kh1, re:com, 358, or DDD) sora or whomever the mc is (minus Terra, I guess) usually gains flight or some gliding through various means (neverland in kh1 and bbs, final form in kh2, and reaching the keyblade graveyard in kh3). Why didn't he even attempt that?

That seems dumb because xehanort could just will doors open to worlds as he wished when he was posessing different people. This feels like lazy retcon.

What I think is the door itself being visible to sora and kairi is what sora and kairi got from ventus and aqua. Riku can see the keyhole because unlike his friends he doesn't have a slight connection to a keyblade but one that is lined up for him ready. I mean sora ,riku and kairi were the only ones who mentioned the door or seemed aware of it (along with the others who are from other worlds) so perhaps we are asking the wrong question. Maybe we should ask if this is an isolated incident. Are there other things keyblade wielders can see others cannot and also the inverse could be true aswell, where non wielders can see some stuff others cannot. I mean it doesn't make sense for it to only go one way

Would anyone entertain the idea that Kairi is the reincarnation of Ava? Or like a regression of sorts? Because in 3 it’s revealed that a girl appeared in Radiant Garden with no memory. Lea and Isa met her there. Trying to figure out how to bust her out but then she suddenly disappeared. Melody of Memoriy goes more in depth and shows that Xehanort was activity experimenting on Kairi. Showing that he too was responsible for transporting her to Destiny Island. I mean I also entertain the idea that Kairi’s grandmother could be Ava as well. Also Xehanort’s experiments on Kairi could have nothing to do with the mystery girl. Just throwing out ideas.

then they retconned this info in later games by saying that the keyblade chose sora despite riku having the power passed to him from terra. the darkness pushed the keyblade to sora and sora could only weild it likely given he has Ventus in his heart, only to have proven himself later to be worthy to weild it.

Thing is yes Sora and Roku were powerful but Sora would not be able to beat Xemnas alone that’s why he said he could subdue him
