Rubies and Moonstones
Добавлен 10 янв 2024
I created my channel, Rubies and Moonstones, to share my diamond painting journey with others. I wanted to share what I have found helpful with anyone who may be looking for ideas or a new way to learn. I have learned so much from other content creators already, but we all teach and learn differently. I firmly believe that we are all always learning new things, even if we've been doing those things for years.
I am learning. You are learning. Let's learn together.
Please join me on my diamond painting journey and let's work together to build a positive community where we can share ideas and teach each other.

Post Review: Start to Finish of "Conversation" by Olga & Alexey Drozdov & Francesca's Studio Works
This video shows several segments of the entire process, completing Francesca's Studio Works, “Conversation”, square drilled, diamond painting, by Olga & Alexey Drozdov: from kitting up, to segments reviewing the diamond painting process, to the final Post Review.
"Conversation” is a 18" x 25.4"", or 45.6 x 64.5 cm canvas! It has 47,397 total square diamonds with 8 charted ABs, for a total of 66 colors!
I so enjoyed completing this canvas. This is the first canvas I've completed from Francesca's Studio Works and I absolutely loved the experience! And this came at the perfect time to complete during Drills and Chills 2024.

This video was so very helpful. I do have one question. How exactly do you hang it on the wall once it is mounted? It is foam board so Im not sure how you would hang it to display. Beautiful work by the way :)
@@mariamirabella2580 thank you so much for the comment. I’m glad you found it helpful. I really think it works well and isn’t very expensive. I actually made a second video showing how I hung these. It’s in my tips and tutorials playlist. We already had nails in our wall but others have suggested command strips. I’m biking to make another video with a really odd size and be sure to include the hanging portion in that video, as well as lots of suggestions I’ve received. Thanks again!

I like the perforated cover. I remove about four sections of the clear cover at a time and lay down release paper on the canvas so I don’t get oily skin on the glue. This works much better for me because I dislike Washi tape and I can move the release paper where needed. Very easy control
@@terigerrish70 love that! I like to remove 4 squares at once too. But mostly because I prefer a larger section so I switch colors less. But I love the release paper idea. May try that.

@@darcygoodboe3457 you’re so welcome! It works for me! 🤷♀️ I think there are probably a lot of ways to do it but this way makes the most sense to me. Thanks for watching
I seal mine as well. I’m going to be mounting all of my art on foam board and I don’t want them to get dusty or the glue dry up and drills fall off. The very first painting I did I bought a frame for it and it’s covered in glass so didn’t seal it. Plus it’s a throwaway. Too small a painting for all the confetti sections. That was before I started watching other DAPainters and found out that size does matter. I figured that since I’m mounting them the canvas should still be pliant enough to wrap around the board so I seal after. And yes Gretchen they do take time to dry. I leave it to dry for a day. I use a paint brush that I bought at the dollar store. I’ve watched vids where someone pours the sealer directly on the canvas. I dip the brush into the jar and start from top to bottom so my fingers don’t get all sticky. Some people have used elmers glue. It goes on white and dries clear. I used to use that for jigsaw puzzles that I wanted to hang.
@@towerjunkie19 that’s all really great ideas and feedback. I do think I’m going to start sealing mine. At least the ones I want to display Thanks so much

Ty for sharing my ghost stories. I believe your daughter really was visited and hugged by grammy. A 4 yo wouldn’t be so specific about those special hugs that she recieved from heaven. I mentioned in one of my e-mails to u about the popping sound your placements make cuz I thought u had a heavy hand while placing where I stick mine on lightly then go over the section with a roller. Well I do have that popping sound but it’s my finger that gets stuck on the canvas making that sound. I hope your doctor can get to the root of your migraines and it’s fixable so u won’t have to suffer anymore. Migraines are debilitating. I know ppl who have them and sometimes they can’t function at all. Those pics you’ve done are all so beautiful. I really love the train. After my Christmas tree DAP I’m getting a Christmas train that I saw on one of the DAP websites I browse through.

@@towerjunkie19 thank you so much for sharing your stories with me so I could share them! That was really fun. And yes: I really believe Grammy visited my daughter too. She doesn’t bring her up often so all the details was quite surprising. And yes: I’m pretty sure that’s my glue dots you’re hearing when I’m placing. Maybe not. But think so. I’m not holding out much hope but actually go to the doctor to review my mri tomorrow so here’s hoping 🤞

I learned how to section between watching you and Katie from @Diamonds and Washi , so you are still proving to be so helpful to me. Also I truly appreciate that your videos aren't pushing products and tools all the time. I just love having you diamond paint with me! You make me laugh, thanks so much
@@susancolquitt4570 thank you so much! That means a lot! Yes! Work as much space as you’re comfortable when color blocking especially. Thanks for your comment about products too. I know I do make some videos with artdot, but for me, it’s more to show other options than “push the product”. And I’ll always be honest. Thank you! I really loved the way that you did this tutorial. I love that you actually show the step by step and even show about the way that the drills adjust themselves as you go. I am alwaysnso worried about leaving spaces or gaps when doing one color at a time. ❤
@@barbaraphilipps248 awe thank you so much! That means the world to me! So I’m so glad you found this helpful. I used to be really worried about gaps too but have started to let go of that ocd and just enjoy the craft. Only I notice the spaces in the end (if there are any without the light pad). Thanks again!!!
The square drills don't seem to have much of a problem with gaps, but this looks like it'd be *very* useful for round drill projects. :)
@@simmyjester I do think it would be most useful for round. My example was a square canvas but I was practicing with a large multi placer so things weren’t lining up too great…. It still really seemed to help on mine and I’m glad I did it since it’s always on display in my house. There’s a sister bird to this one that’s round drills and yes: I will definitely use this method on that one (whenever I get to it). Thanks for watching
Where can I find the DAC puddy pen. It is not on their website.
@@mtd6797 it comes in their new tool kits. So you’d have to buy a kit that is newer (you can see if it’s switched to the new version in the third picture (usually) that shows what’s all included), and then their new twist and pick pen is included in the tool kit. You currently cannot buy it separately Any new release in the last two months or so, and recent restocks will have the new pen
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing the details, as this is so helpful to a new diamond painter. Do you have a link to the pen and tips you are using?
@@kathleengilley there should be links to everything in the description box, but the pens are different. I use DAC pens but they don’t really sell the “push” pens on their website anymore. But I did see some in their Amazon store front. Otherwise the main ones I use I got in those container systems. Pretty sure I showed that in the video and I put a link to one in the description box. But if you look for the vial/round jar systems on Amazon, a lot of those 60/70/96/120 slot kits come with a free full sized pen (and a lot of other stuff). That’s how I got a lot of my favorites too. I’m not a huge fan of the new twist DAC pens because they’re shorter and get untwisted as I work and I have to keep twisting them in. Hope that helps. If you need more help just let me know. And thanks for watching! Glad you found it helpful. I almost didn’t post this one so I’m glad it’s helping some people. Makes it worth it 😁

@@suetapp7122 I thought about that too, but DAC doesn’t have an “in person” store and I know their product. What I meant more about Michaels and Hobby Lobby is more of the other stuff you get there. @@Rubies_And_Moonstones I do diamond painting with friends...October is hosted by shenanigans with the burgs...theme is sugar skulls/ Halloween...very laid back
@@margiegreiss5468 that does sound like fun. I have to admit: I’m a sucker for prizes, so I do like to do events with prizes. I did win one time, but it’s still fun to just participate. I’m done with my grand entry event for drills and chills so now it’s more of a paint along with the weekly prizes. I did kit up two more fall/halloween paintings for the season.
@@Rubies_And_Moonstones no prizes for the ones I do.... just fun
@@margiegreiss5468 fun is good
Very informative and thorough! Thank you
