Which Old Chinese Car Would You Most Like To Drive?
I honestly blame Tesla for perpetuating everything on touchscreen design. I wish more Chinese EV makers would diverge from this idea and create more original designs with more physical controls and not conform to Tesla
just a comment, the US brands produce various colors. I think that's a modern trend. Blue, red, silver, grey, black, white - I think all brands have the fleet in these colors available on the US market. And the grey option is pretty recent, from ~2021. Some manufacturers make green ones as well (Ford).
But the US cars are like dinosaurs in terms of tech and safety compared to the Chinese.
@@i6power30 S... Sa... Safe... Safet... Safety... In Chinese cars? Where did you get that? Tech? Same. Not even close to the US ones. The amount of screens isn't "tech", "tech" category goes completely to German manufacturers, they're awesome. "Tech" of, for example, Tesla, is beyond anything China does. Safety? It's similar for US/European/Japanese brands, somewhat similar for Korean. I can't compare them, I think the sophistication of safety features in Korean cars still isn't there. Chinese? No, no way, not even close to any major brand.
@@i6power30 I think you're just not familiar with what Europe, Japan and America makes. Just ask yourself, why do the same car models in China are cheaper than in the USA? Doesn't matter which manufacturer, Honda, Mercedes, BMW, whatever. To make cars cheaper manufacturers simplify the construction, use less "rare" materials and less electronic assistants. For example, the "de-facto" standard in USA is self-driving (radar cruize control), full safety features like self-stopping (detection of people and moving objects, decision making to prevent collision), full set of airbags (like, 6+ in each and every car sold, 2 front, 2 side, 2 under the roof), default "stability control" features, default automatic transmission. It's hard to find manual (stick shift) here. Can you tell that all these options are not "Tech"? And the European manufacturers have even more complex systems like fender bender mitigation systems (you just can't hit any object driving BMW X5 for example). Plus - only LED lights all around with some sophisticated level of detection of blinding surrounding drivers and avoidance of that ("laserlight"). Even Toyota and Honda from 2017 are capable of switching off "high beams" when there are cars in front and keep the lanes while driving, maintain distance etc. So if you tell that Chinese cars are "better" - you're not familiar with what other brands sell in "1st world countries". Those cars are completely different from what you have in China, even under the same badge.
@@sergeymatpoc I think you are not familiar with the latest developments. Check Euro ncap safety tests. Several Chinese brands beat the likes of BMW, Jeep, Toyota etc..
@@i6power30 I see... "BYD ATTO 3 receives worst Euro NCAP rating, Mercedes i5 best" Nice try 😂

Your channel subscriber low. You need RUclips subscriber
the good cat did make it to the uk which is good
7:59 - The user is still making the inputs, just through the screen To put it simply, car makers remove buttons and switches because (A) the part cost and (B) the digital integration cost and (C) the physical labour cost and wiring. It's not about improvement, it's about a race to the bottom in price. Either to improve profit margins or to increase market share A digital button is free as you've already fitted the screen. A "low hanging fruit" I'm sure a capitalist would say I only feel sorry for the designers as they take the flak for the bean counters. The irony is they're on our side and love physical buttons too but they need to keep their jobs!
Good point to be honest..... I still prefer touch-buttons..... At least u get to feel what you're touching...... Whereas for screens or big screens..... Sometimes they do lag a bit..... Lastly it can be too bright when you are driving at night.... So it can be very distracting.
As an aside, BYD wants to put soon good L2 system in each of their car, so that can help them with better margins on smaller cars?
TLDW. It’s a British brand bought by a Chinese company. It’s a global economy and branding doesn’t mean very much any more. Branding used to evoke emotion in people but most people in this case understand that the vehicles have very little to nothing to do with British made MG’s from back in the day. It’s not something that you can have nationalistic fervour about wether you are British or Chinese.
Fang Cheng Bao might not be the best name in the world, but they sure made the best car in the world🤤🚙
In Russian "focus" means "magic trick"
I always prefer alpha-numerical names over some silly word things. Like, what a heck is a Camry? It doesn't exist, this word makes 0 sense!
Even though the Bao 5 is my dream car I still can not pronounce that rising tone in fāngchÉngbào. I sound hella wrong😭
I love Chinese characters on cars. Whenever I see a Hongqi I get ancient China and the Great Wall (the real one, not Tank one) vibe
Nobody: Literally nobody: Chinese car brands: RICH!!! (Riich), EXCEED!!! (Exeed), EXPAND!!! (Xpeng), FREE!!! (Voyah Free), BRILLIANCE!!!, TANK!!! BUILD YOUR DREAM!!!
Li auto mega is perfect. I love the styling outside and inside. Is this another car reviewer thing like the handling thing. All the talk about in reviews is handling and now most cars drive like they have scaffolding poles for suspension
Toyota Corolla -> 73800 RMB, Nissan Sylphy --> 69800, That's USD $10200 and $9641. All thanks to BYD!
BYD can go as low as it wants as long as communist chinese state keep subsidising them...
As prices come down, sales will go up as they become more affordable.
electric cars.. tipping point at moment,, market share is going up up up
Really interesting hearing about the permit system.
Would be amazing if you could talk about sporty Sedans and which one you would buy. For example SU7 Max vs IM L6 vs Zeekr 007 :-)
Another awesome episode, Ethan! 👍 Great host and guest. I love the Wheelboy channel. It has always been creating high quality videos, with facts and information instead of bias or BS. Thank you! I honestly believe that you deserves 10X subscribers and viewers. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the great exchange! I have so much questions about the Chinese car companies: what are their financial situations? How the central and local government see this price war? How the suppliers are handling this? And even about the wages for workers?
It is going to be hard to sell any car that people can't pronounce. If they push over a car that has a very foreign name ppl are going to think that the company just sent over a bunch of cars without putting any effort into it and without putting any money into it. How long did it take Hyundai to be considered a decent car? A looooong time. Decades.
You buy the emblem. Not the quality
You did not answer the question about MG. Stay to the topic. You talk to much. MG is now a Chinese brand
Which European wants an EV car from China that keeps its own residents short with a heavy hand and will hold Chinese military exercises near Taiwan? Such an EV is not reliable for us in the EU, is it? As soon as war really breaks out, your Chinese EV will no longer drive. You have saved for years to put this car in the hands of the Chinese. How stupid can you be.
Hey Ethan, love the channel (though thank goodness you rid yourself of those horrid bum bags... fanny means something quite different in the rest of the world). Just a comment (not important). During your chat, the movement in the background shows up on your orange screen. Downgrades the quality a bit.
Thank you for the feedback, even if we completely disagree about fanny packs (I know what it means in the rest of the world, trust me). We noticed the reflections in the screen as well, and will try to find a way to avoid it in future videos!
To me, it's Darwin's theory at work currently. The first wave of car makers going down saw the subsidy grabbing ones gone. Now it's time for the poor performers to go. It's a necessary and good thing for a healthy market. I will look at buying a car within this 73 days. LOL
Highland in Shenzhen … think I’ve seen maybe 5 since release. Seems to have performed pretty poorly down this way.
NIO is going after every EV company with a bazooka aka ONVO…
Boring car nothing interesting there
@@eden5260lol Onvo released on a Tuesday model y production cut the week after. Nothing exciting there!!!
Great talk 👍👍👍
As for Nio: i believe offering promotions are reversible/stopped easier than MSRP cuts when price war is eventually over without pissing off as many previous owners towards 2nd hand sales.
It's true they are reversible or mostly a "limited time" promotion. Its easier to go down then it is back up. My point was simply NIO is also engaging in the "price war" even if they are not doing direct price cuts. As I said there's more then one way to skin a cat.
That's a fair point!
Love how these muppets completely left out every other oem does the exact same thing in regards to pricing the Ford lightning comes to mind. Announced officially in June 2021, started deliveries in late May of 2022, between then&now the trim prices have varied by 25-45% or more! I've sold&financed cars plus owned over 80+vehicles so far, so I'm intimately familiar with the games played from both sides of the table! And they ignored Renault dropping their most popular ev by up to 25k recently, Peugeot dropped prices 5-15k recently, polestar dropped their prices by up to 25k depending on the model. But crickets because elon=tesla the world's true pure ev sales leader&that's somehow bad! 😀 Studies show evs are considered to be premium segment vehicle sales and when you back out the tax credits&incentives available? They depreciate just like premium gas guzzlers do! So 18-25% of value gone in that first 12 months and up to 10% more lower a year for every year afterwards. So plan accordingly&lease or at least realize what you are buying beforehand. I'd personally recommend you lease any new ev for the next 3+year's at least(battery tech and specs along with charging times are changing almost like smartphones&computers do. The semi solid state cells and solid state cells for higher end ev stuff is gonna shake up the market starting later this year&going into 2025 for semi solid state cells and then again in 2026-2028 for early solid state. While lmfp&m3p cells will go into most mid range evs and the low end is gonna get basic lfp and sodium cells as is already the case in China. So unless you know how to negotiate really hard, get all additional incentives, buy at the right time when dealers are moving metal and can afford to move in&out of a car every 2 years or so. Just lease it or buy it and drive it for 5+year's before trading in again.👍🏻
I appreciate that you seem to have an intimate knowledge of buying cars in your home market, but a majority of your very long comment isn't relevant to our discussion. Neither the Ford Lightning or Renault are available in the Chinese market, so why would we bring them up in a discussion of the the price wars in China? We also said we would use BYD as an example, but we mentioned quite a few other brands that are dropping prices (such as Mercedes-Benz). We cannot go through every OEM, because the key takeaway is they are ALL forced to do so. We brought up NIO simply because they decided to state they wouldn't price cut, and instead found other more creative ways to "increase the value propositions" The catalyst for this was Tesla dropping prices. It's not an "Elon is a bad man" take, you're just throwing up a straw man argument. Tesla China cut prices in response to waning demand, the Chinese market responded and now it’s in a downward spiral, with new cars coming out that we KNOW are being priced under what OEMs planned to sell them at. How do we know? We attend launch events for cars nearly every week, and that's what we are being told directly by the leadership at these companies. I agree with your recommendation to lease electric vehicles due to the heinous depreciation that they incur, but the option to lease privately in China is nearly nonexistent, so again, it's not relevant to this discussion about the CHINESE CAR MARKET. In summary, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment on our video, but you really ought to pay more attention to the context. Otherwise, you'll end looking like, you know, a muppet.
@@wheelsboychat I dunno, from one muppet to another, maybe next time we can include any price cuts happening in the Ethiopian EV market. At least they are importing EV models that actually exist in the Chinese market... I do agree leasing would be a nice option to have. But just doesn't seem like it's really available for private consumers. Commercial EV lease deals are common in China though. I do know the States love their leasing, and it's very well advertised to consumers.
Please discuss the muppets and the muppet babies next show in addition to Ethiopian markets. Need to expand your viewer base
u do realize that Chinese EV market counts half of the entire world and MERIKA isn't quite center of the universe right?
@@ChinaDriven I have the funny feeling that the guy doesn't know that, cars are running on Ethiopian roads.
Teala is the car which snap your neck though
Excuse me! First of all it does matter. LFP Lithium Ferro Phosphate ( saying Iron is lazy and can be easily confused with Ion) is the most important chemistry and CATL forward leaps with Shenxing and Shenxing Plus is basically game-over we don't need solid state or anything else between CATL and BYD ...LFP is the chemistry the world needs.
Comparing the China market base BYD SEAL with the base MODEL 3 is stupid. In the UK we have two versions of the SEAL RWD and AWD which I presume are the mid and top versions in China. Seal over MODEL 3 any day for me.
Problem for Tesla is not just the Seal, and the Seal is merely okay. You've got new cars coming out like the Zeekr 007 and especially the super hyped Xiaomi SU7 which are even MORE compelling. Tesla is gonna have to export a lot of their Chinese built Model 3s from now on. And that was still okay for Tesla for a little while because the Model Y is their golden goose, but now all the Chinese EV makers are releasing model Y competitors too. Just take BYD for example, after the Seal came out, BYD has released FOUR different models all of which can be cross shopped against the Model Y, the Denza N7, BYD Song L, BYD Sea Lion, and also the FCB Bao 5. Before Tesla can cut prices in China and still grow sales form it, but now their China sales have stalled and may even be falling a bit. That's going to be a real big problem for a carmaker who essentially just makes two volume selling models.
"MODEL 2" has been cancelled Musk supports Tariffs to keep Chinese cars out of the USA. Ungrateful bastard.
Looking forward to the price wars arriving at UK shores where we've been fleeced for the past 25+ years.
Your politicians are whining and begging Chinese companies to increase the price to save VW
Aren't they talking about "overcapacity"? It seems to be a welcomed thing.

Outstanding car. Especially at those prices. Would like to make an inquiry. Do you have information on Chinese RHD vehicle exporters. I would like to contact a couple reputable exporters. Thank you.
I haven't seen a single real buyer of this vehicle yet, only ads from bloggers and test cars. When will we see one video of a real buyer, one !! I haven't even seen anyone take pictures short videos of Xiaomi cars driving around China, and they claim to have sold 120,000. Notice that in these videos it is allways the same cars with no car plates, the same bloggers, everything is advertising and nothing more. In my opinion, no car has really been sold until this moment.
about 40K cars has been delivered to the customers and on road to 120K at the end of the year.
