Keurig 2.0 K200 Disassembly/Teardown
Keurig coffee makers are wonderful machines, but when they need repair they can be challenging to take apart. Removing the screws is only half the battle, since there are snap fasteners inside that are not accessible from the outside.
I thought I would create a video that would not only show people where the screws and fasteners are, but also how to unfasten them without damaging the machine. The video also covers the suggested order of disassembly to keep it as easy as possible. The machine that we are disassembling today is the Keurig 2.0 K200.
There are other people out there that have already done a teardown video for this same machine, but I still thought I had a few extra tips and vie...

Keurig Handle Stuck, Won't Close - New, Simple Fix
Просмотров 49 тыс.2 года назад
So imagine you have a Keurig 2.0 coffee maker. You open the handle, put in a K-Cup pod, and just as you are about to enjoy a delicious brew, you find that you can't close the lid to even get it started. Lot's of people have experienced this and it only happens on Keurig 2.0 machines - any Keurig 2.0 in fact, although the model I'm working with here happens to be a Model 200. I recognize that th...

    Ok. I've just gotten a year and a half out of mine, and I think what happened was all my fault anyway. This might be cool who love all things DIY and are very frugal. I started taking mine apart, but then it started getting ridiculously too technical for me. So, I'm going to cope with the pain of the loss abd my stupidity and buy another machine, probably a different one. 😢

    Planned obsolescence. A little plastic tab that ages and with the heat from the unit will eventually break. Most people will just trash the old unit and buy another. My advise is what the video shows in the beginning and continue to us it without going through the rest of the video, especially removing the shroud. Thanks for the video.

    I had a very dead spider in my cup of coffee. Was there any way it could have crawled into the machine snd got in where the water is in the machine itself (not the reservoir) I am certain it wasn’t in the reservoir, nor was it in my mug prior to brewing. I’m ready to throw the machine away but I don’t want to if I don’t have to.

      Oh gosh that's disgusting 😣 Well I hate to say it, it's possible it somehow entered the inside water tank. I would guess through the needle where the coffee comes out. I actually just opened mine and there was quite a few spider webs 🤦‍♀️...one more reason I hate spiders. Anyway sorry for my rambles, hopefully that was the first and last time you have a spider in your mug!

      There is a ventilation port on the side of the machine on the flat side where the reservoir sits against it, but if anything gets in there it can't get into the hot water tank because it is blocked by what looks like a filter before it can get there. The only likely place I can think of is a hole underneath the arm just before the needle that goes into the K-Cup. See 37:03 in the video. The hole is always closed up if the arm is down, like it is while brewing. If the arm is up to insert the K-Cup, then the hole is open. I hadn't thought about it, but maybe that's a good reason to keep the arm down while not using the machine. But like the other person said, it's also quite possible that it could have entered through the needle. If it's almost time to de-scale the machine anyway, doing so might give a person some more peace of mind 😉.

    I have a Elite K90. It turns on and goes through the water heating cycle and behaves perfectly until you select the cup size and the moment when it should start the brew cycle (pumping water, etc.) the machine powers off. With the case off the machine I can hear a couple small sounds. When I turn the machine on, there is an immediate "tick" from the circuit board like something becoming electrically energized (like if an electromagnet is turning on). When the machine turns off on its own instead of brewing I hear a "tock" from the circuit board that is a 5th (5 steps lower on the musical scale) below the tick. I'm thinking the "tick" and the "tock" are both coming from the same part of the circuit board, but I cannot feel anything from any of the three raised plastic parts on the right side or down near the bottom of the circuit board. It could be that the water pump is bad and that's kicking out a circuit breaker when the machine sends power to it. Do you have voltage or resistance readings for the water pump? If I disconnect the wiring harness connector from the water pump which pins would I measure voltage or amperage on? So basically, what are the testing procedures on the water pump? I have had the water intake port off and ensured it is not clogged and is allowing water to go up into the water level tube so I'm fairly sure water the pump can get water. There is water in the tube going from the rectangular part sticking off the water intake port to the water pump, but there is no water in that rectangular part if that matters. Thanks for the amazing video!

      With the wire plug of each pump unplugged from the circuit board, the resistance reading of each pump is: Water pump: 25 ohms Air pump: 35 ohms When these are both plugged back in and the machine is doing a brew cycle, the voltage readings across the power wires to each pump are: Water Pump: About 4 volts (while brewing and dispensing) Air Pump: About 11.3 volts (after the brew is complete and the air pump is blowing out the remainder) The water pump and air pump are actually both 12 volt pumps, but the processor controls the speed of them by giving them less voltage. You can also test each of them by connecting a 9 volt battery to the power wiring to each of them, after unplugging them from the circuit board of course. Apply + to the red wire, and negative to the black wire. The water pump has a bunch of separate black wires in the plug that we believe is involved in measuring the speed of the pump, so ignore those. Just connect to the black and red wires that go the the back of the pump where the two pins are. One person here said that when he pumped a reservoir's worth of water through by connecting the 9 volt battery to the water pump, the Keurig started to work reliably again. There are some other possibilities. When I experiment while brewing by pinching the tube that goes from the top of the hot water tank to the dispenser in the arm, it sounds like it is starting to brew (but nothing comes out) and then just clicks and shuts off (but the clock display stays on). So this proves it would behave that way if there is a blockage somewhere in that tube, or in the area of the exit needle at the pod. The other possibility is that it behaved about the same way when I disabled the air pump by either pinching it's air tube or unplugging its electrical plug. Also, there is a 4 port plastic tee that has the pressure relief valve and 4 air tubes attached to it. I have found that when it is new, it looks white. As it ages, it gets darker colored and eventually brown. At that point I had one break, but it was flaky inside because the material was breaking down. So maybe there could be a clog somewhere in there.

    Really loved your K90 video. Obviously very clear and detailed. You are undoubtedly a talented engineer! I am trying to set my K90 for long term storage and I am hoping you can help. Trying to avoid leaving water in the machine which I’m concerned could get quite nasty over time. I called keurig and they claim that the machine does not retain water if the external reservoir is empty. I would argue that the pump, heating tank, and water lines downstream would probably stay filled or wet. Any advice on how to drain the machine? Would you recommend that I run a cleaning cycle but leave the last bit of cleaning solution in place? Thanks so much for the video and your advice.

It is the larger style that I also has a pot of coffee. I do not have access to the owner's manual, but do you have suggestions for descaling? Very excellent video! I particularly appreciated your tour of the working parts. Like many others, the T fitting linking the air pump, the control board, the pressure release valve and the top of the hot water tank in my Keurig has disintegrated and water was leaking all over the place. As you suggested, I ordered a fitting from US Plastics and will reconnect to bypass the release valve. I have noticed that the back flow from the hot water tank is pretty strong. I hope that once the tubing is connected to the new fitting, the hot water will be impeded from reaching the air pump by the compression of the confined air in the tubing. Thanks for making this video.

    • @getitsettech1015
      @getitsettech1015 7 месяцев назад

      Sounds like you understand this pretty well and have a good solution in hand. I agree that the compression of the air in the tubing should protect the water from getting forced into the air pump - as long as the tube remains looped as it goes down beneath the air pump and then heads back up again as it connects to the air pump. This U shape may help keep water out of the pump.

    This is a fantastic video, thanks for the efforts! My K50 stopped working after an across-state relocation. So it pumps cold water in, and brews it, however, it won't dispense coffee anymore. It drips out a drip or two and then goes totally silent. I checked under the top hood there is no jam at all. Would you think it is the air pump is bad, or the hot water tank is bad?

    • @getitsettech1015
      @getitsettech1015 8 месяцев назад

      If you can hear it boiling, the hot water tank should be good. As far as pumps, it's really the water pump that does most of the dispensing. The air pump just blows out the last little bit. At 33:25 minutes into the video, it shows a clear tube on top that feeds into a long black dispenser assembly. So if that is clogged up, that could be blocking it. If you haven't already de-scaled the machine, it would be worth doing it because it might loosen the clog up if it's in there. If you happen to have it disassembled, you could get a hold of that tube and try to blow through it to see if it's blocked. Other than that, it could possibly be the water pump.

    I think I have encountered the issue with the handle sagging down before on another Keurig 2.0 model I had , that was probably an indication that the tabs were failing (weak) but not broken yet. Currently I have a Keurig 2.0 model 400 and it has the problem with the handle getting stuck and not wanting to close. It also has the problem of the handle not staying all the way up and sagging when you open it. And since the tabs on mine are most certainly broken ( based on what you said), then I would assume that is what is causing both the stuck open problem and the handle sagging problem for me. Thank you so much for this fix. Excellent video quality. Clear and detailed instructions. This will help me a lot. Great presentation and music in the video as well. Much appreciated.

    Great video but you didn't mention or showed the check valve. I am guessing it is somewhere under the top lid that you removed? My machine got stuck with the red "descale" light on after I tried descaling it. Now when I start it, It just shuts itself off immediately. I was wondering if the check valve got clogged and needs cleaning.

    • @getitsettech1015
      @getitsettech1015 7 месяцев назад

      At ruclips.net/video/0Q8ueL0v5oQ/видео.html on the video, a flexible tube comes in that connects to a long black assembly. I don't know whether that contains a check valve just before it dispenses into the K-cup, but there is a check valve just past the water inlet for the external water reservoir. I show this in the video for the K50 at ruclips.net/video/2o7Myp3XsgI/видео.html. This check valve can be disassembled by opening the tabs, but the tabs are very easy to break so I would advise against it. As far as what might clog, I suppose there could be several places, but there is a hard plastic device with multiple flexible tubes attached at ruclips.net/video/0Q8ueL0v5oQ/видео.html in the video. When this device turns from a white color to a dark brown color, it could be disintegrating inside, getting brittle and clogged.

    does the water level sensor have two electrodes for hysteresis?

    • @getitsettech1015
      @getitsettech1015 8 месяцев назад

      Actually one of the two electrodes just goes to circuit ground (the one with the green wire). So I think that this electrode is there just to make a complete circuit for the other probe. I've shunted between the two electrodes and it only took about 6 megohms of resistance to make the Add Water light go out. It seems to me that relying on a high resistance like that to tell you anything about the water level would be pretty unreliable. Indeed, I've had problems with my own K90 running out of water, but the light wouldn't come on to tell me about it.
