      The closest access point is the sturgeon river access point. It is possible to hike or paddle in and out in a day. I know people have done it. However it would be one hell of a day lol. Personally I would plan to spend at least one night camping at a site or sleeping in your car. Considering it takes multiple hours to drive in the logging road that takes you to the sturgeon. Hope that helps you out! Let me know if you have any other questions

    Nice video. New route on Maple Mountain, Ladder has been moved some 50 feet away now and they reroute you so you don't end up climbing that. Adds a couple 100 meters more to the route but ends up with a gradual incline instead of a steep embankment. I lIke the rewarding part of going thru Sugar lake area at the end, might have to try that. Cheers!

      Thanks! I’m glad you liked it! That’s interesting, must be fairly recent that they changed the route because we climbed it this summer. I didn’t actually use the ladder on the way up. There was a series of rock ledges to the left of the ladder that seemed less sketchy and got me up pretty easily. Sugar lake is definitely worth a look, crystal clear water, a couple epic sites and some sunken cedar boats to check out. Sometimes it pays to take the road less travelled!

      We took it for a quick paddle last night and it performed very well! A little unstable feeling when you first climb in but in my experience that means more speed and maneuverability once you learn to trust the boats secondary stability. I might put together a review video on it once I have time to rig it for my cameras. My quick thoughts are that it’s probably faster than a typical prospector and likely just as versatile.

    1980 Mad River Slipper, 15 ft., 42 lbs. The seat originally was in the center. Moved about 1/3 of the way back to allow for camping gear in the bow. The portage bar is permanently installed in the exact center. It is made of a 2 inch diameter aluminum tube that has its ends flattened and is attached to the underside of the rails by four #8 bolts. It is covered by 1/2" pipe insulation foam. A light thwart is installed about 18" in front of this bar which allows for easy control of the canoe. Tested in the Boundary Waters.

    Thanks for sharing this great information. Looks like your repair is both functional as well as aesthetically clean. Last year I had to repair a tear in the floor of tent I use for bikepacking. My repair did work, but was more complicated to execute than yours with the repair tape forming the base of the procedure. My tent came with piece of silnylon floor fabric that matched the colour of the tent floor. I made a mixture of clear silicone bath and kitchen caulking that was thinned with some mineral spirits to make it more manageable. This mixture became the adhesive to hold the patch material to the floor fabric. I applied a patch on both sides of the tent, which may have been overkill, but I really wanted this to hold. The key was to use aroma less mineral spirits, which is really hard to find. While working with a plastic putty knife, I had some isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle and a cloth to clean up the excess caulking mixture. While my method did work and seems to be bombproof, I think your method using the repair tape is far easier and is likely to hold for the duration of the tent’s remaining life. I wish your video would have come out last year 😊

How did it work out for flexibility? Do you think it would work good for seam repair?

      Yes “ charged through the nose” might have been a bit of an exaggeration. Although it can still be hard to justify when there’s plenty of places offering the same amenities for free.

    Your right to have right to enjoy those beautiful waters just like everyone else does and I hear your frustration. People need to have respect for each other. As a child, I remember my father always slowing down for canoes, (Kayaks pretty rare in the 60's). In the 80's I was fishing in a 12 ft boat in deep water near Beausoleil Island. Half a mile of open water surrounding me in every direction. A power boat approached me at speed and passed within 50 ft. It was like he was asleep or just wanted to piss me off. He probably knew he did when I stood up and gave him the Finger. Enjoyed your video. Brought back many good memories and also a bad one. Enjoyed you video!

    I used to frequent these waters in the mid 80's to mid 90's. I'm not sure about your comments regarding too many boats. When I saw canoes, I always slowed down out of respect. Just a 16 ft bass boat. You are a boat in the water. What gives you priority over everyone else? When you say too many boats it depends if one boater respects another. If it's how people drive today compared to 25 years ago, I hear you. No respect.

    • @ryansroutes1805
      @ryansroutes1805 2 месяца назад

      Yes that’s more what I was referring to. There were far more people that didn’t slow down when passing us than people that did. Not a big deal in the big open water but when paddling the narrow sections it creates a reverberating wake that’s rather annoying.

    I was surprised that temagami wasn't part of this. You mention it "might end up in temagami or going up the sturgeon River". Some areas are really cottagey, but with a little exploring you can definitely find lots of beautiful waterways and camp sites. If you haven't checked it out it's well worth the trip. Going in the fall will show you the most beautiful colours.

      I mentioned Chiniguchi in the video which is part of the Temagami cluster. At the time of making it I hadn’t paddled lake Temagami itself so I didn’t want to voice an opinion on it. We recently did an 11 day trip on lake Temagami,Diamond lake, up to Maple Mountain and back down through Obabika ( actually trying to finish up part 1 of that video up today lol). After having done that loop it would definitely make my list now!

    Eno products are inferior, made in china, won’t last junk. They do NOT stand behind what they make. My main stitches failed causing an instant 24 inch fall when my 125lb wife sat in it (I’m 170lbs). She now has two plates in her neck from disk damage. When I reached out to eno customer support, they sent me a form letter it was my fault for using it outdoors! The sun did it!! Don’t trust their products!!! Buy from a us cottage company. You won’t regret it.

      We camped somewhere around winakaching bay the first night on the south side of this island( there’s tons of sites around there). The second night we camped just a bit north east of Hinks island I believe. Third night was spent in mill lake along the south west side although there was a much nicer site that I discovered while fishing. On one of the most southern large island in the lake. Our last night we camped on the same site as the first night but there was an epic site somewhere along the north side of the island before you would get to turning island. I can’t remember exactly where that was but it would be hard to miss, big open rock hill. I believe I had some shots of the site I’m referring to in my video. There are a fair amount of sites along the north side of the island but definitely not as abundant as the south. Hopefully that helps you out!

    I did this same exact DIY on a mid winter trip in the Ozarks with around 16 F weather at night. Used a cheap 40 degree bag around my hammock (tied it in bunches and zipped it to seal it) and it drastically improved my otherwise miserable sleep system because I underestimated the cold. This really works. I can imagine with a better sealing system and a slightly better bag, you can ditch the fancy underquilts for most winter hammocking set ups.

    • @ryansroutes1805
      @ryansroutes1805 4 месяца назад

      For sure, it works great! I’ve taken it to -8 Celsius and made it through the night with only mild discomfort. An actual underquilt will save some weight and function better for sure. Although I’m sure most of us that have been camping for a few years have a spare bag laying around to make one. Easily saving hundreds of dollars! This will also still function as normal sleeping bag if needed.
