Fender Rhodes, Solina and Yamaha CS15d: The Cinematic Combo.
These days I'm bingeing on movies, old ones obviously, consequently my mood in the musical field is affected as usual by it, leading me to compose tunes with a strong cinematic flavor. When I talk about cinematic sound and equipment I can't miss the Fender Rhodes, the Solina and the Yamaha CS15d (there's nothing to do, I love this little ugly thing )... here's what I came up with last few days ...

Yamaha DX7 + TX802 + TX81Z (combo)

Who says digital synths have no soul? I think that when it comes to those glossy and lush 80s-flavored songs, there is nothing better than them. And if the chosen synths are the Yamaha DX7 and close relatives then we have everything we need. Here is a small example using 3 members of the Yamaha family: DX7, TX 802 and TX81Z and the rhythm part comes from an Akai S900. DX7 - Polysynth, DX Synth ...

Fighissimo, suoni bellissimi, ottima realizzazione, complimenti!!
i work on news customs eproms on this machine, with Alesis encoding.. i dont understand why the high frequency are planed compared to original sounds (the hats for example)
very cool
I cant find this specific rom set anywhere anymore. Only a linn one or dmx and drumtracks together. Anyone know where i can get this set?
Longtime m/p owner. Very nice to hear multiple takes of m/p layered together to do all the sounds, very nice lead playing
uno dei timbri brass piu belli
Curious how this piece would sound with a Behringer Solina.
4:30 cool sound
The best drum sounds so far I like it thanks.
I'll never sell my JX-3P ... lovely sound and great playin Sebastian!
Insane that only about 100 persons liked this beauty of a song in 9 years. Deserves 50x that!
You have module version of this synth, what a dedication!. :)
Damn!! Now I have to play my 15D again!! I don’t have a Rhodes nor a Solina, but I have a CP35 and a few old stringers with a couple old SmallStone. That should do it! Thanks for sharing ! That 15D sounds so lush, and the crazy part is you’re only using one of the 2 channels!
Beautiful!!
keep a CS 15 D just as a backup for the pro soloist. Should use it more!
Nostalgic and relaxing. Thanks for sharing!
Im such a huge fan of CS-15D, still my most favourite synth of them all (I have two of them - one is being used by my gf and I also have serviced / repaired few of them as well) and its beautiful! :) Btw you are back in studio or moved to new one? All the best!
Hey! All set, finally! Email me again, I lost your emails 😖
@@sunsmayflower Fantastic news, thank you! Sent. (if not received anything, check the spam folder)
Yeah, for some reason, I feel like my 15D sounds better than my 40M for solos like this. It’s technically the same filter, but maybe it is implemented differently? More creamy to my ears. The ProSoloist (I have a DGX) has the advantage of aftertouch, so it adds one layer of expressivity (especially if you’re playing with just one hand, but not an issue if doing a track by track studio recording). But if I’m not mistaken, the filter is a 24db, vs the smoother 12db of the 15D, so the sound can be quite different. And the 15D also has 2 channels and more hands on control on sound, so it’s give and take for me…
@@SynthOSphere Hello! They are really very similair (I do have 40M as well), mainly it is the difference 2channels-2filters per note vs double the amount of oscilators + duophony. Filter is same and implemented same as well, but I see difference in filtering capacitors values, not sure how much of a difference in sound it makes, but technically yes, there is difference. Also another thing (again the difference is questionable) 15D uses falling sawtooth (misses waveshape invertor) while 40M has rising one. I would say CS-40M is soundwise much "heavier", it is a massive beast that takes over whole mixdown if you ask her to do so, double VCO and both having sine waveshaper, thats hard to beat. Anyways yeah, I prefer CS-15D for expressive and strongly articulated solo lines (dual filter per note just makes a lot of magic) and CS-40M for everything else. And I also have SY-2 which has the legendary optomechanical aftertouch, dual filter etc.. and that one is really unbeatable for expressive play. I recenly got Teisco S100P, that one is awesome, uses licenced ARP aftertouch (from your soloist) which is great (not as great as SY-2 one, but solid), 24db Moog ladder filter, spring reverb etc.. love that thing quite a lot. Im actually designing a little non invasive modification for CS-15D (I despise mods, that need cripling or irrevesable changes to original instrument), that will add PWM with dedicated LFO for it, still figuring it out, but might be great addition. All the best!
@@DestroyER82 Awesome!!! Yeah, I have a second defective/damaged 15D (someone dropped it hard, I figure, a few keys were broken and front metal keybed railing bent (!) and the top panel also a tiny bit, around the same area, but the worse was the Filter PCB got craked, but I managed to find a new one (just gotta transfer the main iG chips)! And all the metal was unbent and keys were found, so all good) and I wanted to try and mod that one, with a reversible mod I saw someone do: you know how the last preset on Channel 2 is a free edit "Manual" where you can use the controls on the right? We someone modded the Channel-1 to do the same, and it's apparently not too hard. Now whenever we want to use a mix of both channels, we're stuck with Presets on Ch1, well not anymore with this!! It would make that synth even better. And you can always remove the mod and put it back ot original if you want. I'm interested by your PWM mod, if you ever want to share more info.
I love this vintage keyboard vibes all done by hand! So synbass by MS 20. Thanks!
Is there a phaser on Bit-99 brass?
No, it's an Arion SCH-1 Stereo Chorus ;)
@@sunsmayflower Thanks for the reply! There was something extra on that brass. Now understood.
The pads are so legit, its the best.
Good!
funky. can you please advise for a novice would you choose this over a korg monologue or minilogue? is it worth the extra cost? i mostly just want to play funky basslines
Unfortunately I have never tried the Korg Monologue nor the Minilogue so I don't know what they sound like nor what to recommend! I can definitely tell you that a lot of the Monopoly's sound is due to very snappy envelopes and a nice filter.
@@sunsmayflower I ended up buying a moog sub 25 I don't know how to read and play music yet though..any advice on what lessons to take in order to learn? I don't want to take regular piano lessons b/c I don't think they apply properly to playing funk basslines on a monosynth right? thanks
Are these patches available anywhere?
Fire !
I‘m glad that I have a DW8000, too
Are these patches available?
Have you compared it to the Bering ?
No actually!
Magnifique
Wow, this sounds incredible!
Do you have these patches available for sale?
Always beautiful sounds with even more beautiful playing brother.
Pura Italo Disco. Over the Top!!
These are cheap used. Lovely patch design there, my dude.
Excellent!
Why not reissue this and not the unnecessarily over equipped mod-wave?
These patches are available? I could pay for it!
Il tuo solo col Rhodes è meraviglioso... mi ricorda il sound dei dischi della CTI di Creed Taylor degli anni '70 (Bob James, Herbie Hancock, Richard Tee...)
One of the best sounding synthesizers ever made. And these are some of the best patches I've heard on it!
I had that Korg Poly 61 backintheday loved it
def. subscribing; this is excellent!
what a funky tune! sounds great
gusto a badilate
Lunar Choir for me. OMG !!!! What a creamy soft pad. Too bad the stepping of the filter is hearable, even though it's faint... Could you tell us what base waveforms you used for it? (if possible, please)
Great funky piece! Excellent job on this track - thank you for bringing this groove here Sebastian! Certainly has some of the Skakatak vibe to it. All the best to you👍👍❤👌😎
Thanks! Although the inspiration and the musical context comes from something completely different, I can tell you that harmonically and the lead can remind you of some Shakatak songs such as Night Birds ;)
@@sunsmayflower exactly what I thought the moment I heard your track! I am not saying you are copying someone else’s musical ideas. You are incredibly talented musician and you’ve got a great taste for quality music nevertheless! Loving your content - all of it! You also seem to appreciate real instruments with soul instead of soulless software emulation - that is a real treat for me to hear those legendary synths and keyboards live - and although I do not own any of those I am very happy to see these treasured vintage instruments in the hands of such a fantastic player like yourself. 👍🤟😎❤️👊would be interested to learn how you create your drum tracks for your songs and what hardware (or samples of) you like to use for the drum parts. Excellent production and sound👍
Cool, i like it! :-)
