Layout Update 9 3 24 Walthers Diesel Shop
Просмотров 11 тыс.2 месяца назад
In this update I chronicle building my 12 stall diesel shop using the walthers kits. This wasn't a difficult kit, but it tried my patience right to the end. There are SO MANY pieces, and the tooling wasn't well though out and left every single tiny piece in need of cleanup work just to be functional. It's a good product, I'd recommend it, but not a quick weekend build!

Caught the southbound ore train coming out of conneaut at the 'hog back' - then again at the former location of the Albion PA depot. Lots of limestone on the head end of this one. Some good "Bessemer" logos, SD70M's pushing and pulling. Nice day to be outside!

Layout update for 7/7/24. 0-8-0 #256 is a Proto 2000 model I re-lettered and added LED lights and TCS V4 sound to with Scale Sound System Speakers. We take a look at new trackage in the diesel servicing area including ready tracks, fuel delivery tracks, along with a misc set out track. A neat turnout control button I first saw on Peter Lee's channel, link below along with the button. www.youtub...

Follow along the full length of the railroad as we run a coal train northbound from North Bessemer, PA to Conneaut, OH. We'll see Union 0-10-2 and B&LE 0-8-0 switchers while double headed 2-8-0's lead our train across the road. We pass south bound ore trains lead by 2-10-4's and ABBA F sets. The mainline was just completed, so join me as we continue to build the Bessemer & Lake Erie in HO scale.

I would like to see a tourof the layout and your equipment!😅
I've done a few overviews of the layout, which is heavily under construction. I'm 3 years in to a 20 year project is how I like to say it. I've never done a equipment review. Guess I didn't think anyone would be interested. Maybe I'll do that. Could be fun even for myself. Here's one "tour" from almost a year ago when I finished the main. The beginning is assembling the train, actually moves out at about 12:30 if you want to skip ahead. ruclips.net/video/nCwtVmOtZyg/видео.htmlsi=AQdV6uYGhw0AluyE
Haven’t been here in a while. Love the updates. There was a lot to see. Definitely rewind worthy.
@@KatoOnTheTrack1 glad you checked in!
Wow.. amazing first time seeing your layout
Welcome aboard!
Hope your engine complex is sectional or easily disassembled because it should go to a museum when you are done with it. Electrical, track, overall layout, all are due a comment, but I'll steal one from below. WOW
@blainedunlap4242 lol thank you. It's not sectional per say, but disassemblable with effort. Thank you.
Great job on voting day.
Thanks. Not sure what it has to do with election day, just happened to be the night I got around to uploading.
Hi
Awsome job on the engine lighting.
It’s impressive to do that!! Nice!
Wow. Just, wow! The power table? Oh my!
Wayne Cole, personal friend, is very good you should get his other ghost rails books very well researched.
@@scottericcatalano596 I'm sure I'll pick up more!
Links almost 101 with caboose
Wow looks great! I’m very interested in how you built your control panel for the roundhouse and turn table 🤔
I might have to do a video on this.
Know I’d watch lol I need ideas for building mine
Amazing work! May I ask what you used for your diesel fueling area? Was it a kit?
@billjacon4527 thanks. Yes it's just the walthers fueling kit cut in half
Thank you!@@bessemerlakeerieinhoscale6061
so cool that you work for Wabtec man! every railroader these days knows Wabtec for the positive train control screens we all have to look at every time we get on a train lol. I subscribed
@brandonfront143 thank you. I get to see a lot of shiny new dc to ac rebuilds everyday.
That was a great update and I was very impressed with the great job you did on those control panels. Love your layout.
Your passion for this hobby is shown in everything you do! I need to get that book about the Western Allegheny. That line used to run across the North East end of the road I live on. My nerdy train brain has been mesmorized, thank you!
@joshthompson302 thank you! Getting down and exploring the WA and the hilliard branch is on my to do this winter.
That is well on its way to being one hell of a layout. Great work.
@@dkservice424 thank you!
Those control panels are sweet.
Well done, sir. Thank you for sharing.
Your panels are fantastic. You make it look easy but we know that there was a ton of work to get to this point. Rapido... I love em, I hate em.
@@mattw9667 thank you. Yeah those were a ton of work
Very nice. Thanks for sharing the updates.
Thank you for sharing. From SN Tower in Leavittsburg, Ohio, this is a very nice update on the engine terminal.👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looking good! Nice control panels.
Two months ago I purchased a DT602D radio throttle from Digitrax. I like it and I don't like it. To MU+ an engine I have yet to figure that out So, I use my DT500 which works much better. Now I can MU- an engine from a consist but to get it to work the other way is confusing as it wants to consist to the engine I am consisting. I have notified Digitrax to see why these problems exist. Love how the sound on your layout is so clear. Most layouts don't have the clarity that yours does. Why is yours so much different? Well, I spoke too soon about what decoders you use. I had one Athearn engine where the light attaches to break off from the frame. I soldered the pickup wires directly to the trucks and that really worked out rather well. I highly recommend it if one has the patience to get those thin wires down through the frame holes. Well, we all face issues of all sorts and with patience and a good attitude we can make it work. Thanks for sharing your beautiful layout.
Thank you! I did do a review of the tcs throttle. They work wildly different in the sense that the command station is unaware of the consist, or only exists in the throttle. No cv messing... no forgetting you had a engine in consist.... just.. "add engine" type the number in, and go. . Dropping one just as easy. Love it. ruclips.net/video/rWV4hyvb0k8/видео.htmlsi=NsQwj5MLlmIhlVVA
The layout looks awesome Ray. Just you cleaning up makes the layout "POP"
Thank you!
Looking good! Love those U-boats. You're where I'm at with my layout. You have so many areas and projects it's hard to decide where to go next. I'm new here so I have to ask what are those dowels or plugs in your foam benchwork?
Ghost Rails is a great series - 22 volumes (or more?). Congrats, Ray! BTW, moving the couch and tidying up a bit really opened that space up. The layout is looking good!🤗 . . . .🚂Lawrence
Very impressive.
Inspiring stuff. I am still fairly new to model railroading (longtime railroad and model lover, only just now had the space, and only have a 4x8) Can't wait to be in a position where I could make such a vast and detailed layout of my own!
@themightyhood-4117 thanks! Starting small is a really good idea and a great way to learn what works for you.
That's typical Rapido. Poor customer service and their products don't work as they should out of the box.. if at all. But they look fantastic as they derail, or not work. Very impressive layout.
great, thanks, for your stick just put a eire connector at the end for easy catch
Really nice roundhouse Is big proyect.
Congratulations on besting 2000! That was a great video. How do you make your coal loads?
Thank you! Here's how I do them! ruclips.net/video/0gqF9r8aqDk/видео.htmlsi=oTbomZo_K-fUifOs
That was totally awesome. Congratulations on 2,380 subscribers. The roundhouse and engine facility are amazing. Great job.
Any one know where this could possibly be found. Or for sale. Been looking for a while now
Long out of production, you have to check ebay pretty much daily. They come up for sale periodically and go immediately if set as a buy it now. Price varies wildly. If you're lucky you can snag one for 100-150 bucks. I've seen them go for 500, 600. I think the hobby could really use walthers re running them. Still the nicest kits I've ever built.
Very impressive, I look forward to seeing the scenery develop.
Would like a good look at how this works. Would like to do the same thing to my layout
Nice layout you’re getting mirror
That was pretty cool. Nice job.
Would like to see a cab ride
how wide is your Engine Terminal peninsula? id like to rebuild my layout and do something similar to that for a freelance of the fony shops in WC era

YES!!!
I'm not invested enough to watch an hour of this, but that train is super-cool and it's really impressive that you got it up the helix with only one minor derailment. Awesome stuff, and congrats on 2000 subscribers!
This is one heck of a HHHUUUGGEEEE layout!!! And one heck of a long train! Very nice! Congrats!👏👏👏
Great Layout, lots of work to complete this layout. Congratulations on all the milestones on the layout. Looking forward to the next update. Mike HO from Australia
Love it! Especially with the long snaking hopper train.
Awesome update and congratulations on 2000+ subs! I can’t even get to 300 lol
Wow! I enjoyed this one. Thanks
You heald my attention the whole trip. 👍.
I understand not only the hundred cars, but also the PRR 2-8-8-2. Everyone wants to run a train like this. IIRC railroads stopped plenty of traffic down here in New Castle in the day with mineral trains for the steel mills. The old blast furnaces were hungry. And when I was little (60s) Troutman’s had tons of AHM. On the side of any car box they had a picture of the Rivarossi Y6. PRR was one of the options. That stuck in my head for decades. I, too, have the Y3 that I bought 10 years ago (mine’s in O scale).
