    If you lower the tail wheel a notch or 2 and get it riding on the ground while setting the height with the front it will help. Your front should be about 1" lower than the rear. It will cut and discharge easier and not load up near as much.

    Excellent install! I'm getting ready to install the same heater. Is there a requirement for the horizontal vent pipe to be a certain amount of feet below the eaves on the outside? I have the same eaves/building as you. No windows or openings nearby. Thanks!

    • @journeys-with-joe
      @journeys-with-joe Месяц назад

      Thanks appreciate the comment. The directions say vent termination must be 4’ below or 4’ horizontal from any soffit vent. Mine is a little over 3’ which is as far as I could get away. I think the main point is to keep the flue gasses from being drawn into the soffit vent. I put a CO2 detector in the attic for a little while and never had any problems.

    • @austinw638
      @austinw638 Месяц назад

      @@journeys-with-joe that’s what I was thinking too. I’m the same in that I can’t quite get 4 feet from it. My eaves/soffits do not vent inside the building so I assumed there’s no issue. My plumber wants everything inspected after they do the gas line so I’d hate for the inspector to get picky about this when I’ve already cut a hole in the wall for thimble/vent 😂. I’m thinking of just having the plumber run the gas line and cap it, then I’ll install the heater afterward

      I probably didn’t mention it much but no I don’t have a vapor barrier between ceiling trusses and steel. Based on everything I’ve found it’s not required or recommended in my climate zone and blown fiberglass doesn’t chemically react with the steel so no issues there either. I have been in the attic a few times this winter and no moisture or condensation issues even when digging out some insulation when I installed the ceiling fan wood bracing it was completely dry. I do have dripstop on the roof metal. Hope this helps!

      Adjusting the rails is certainly an option if they are just misaligned. Mine were not and the springs keep everything from binding which is very important for a shaft driven opener. My 12’ opening isn’t perfectly plumb either which I’m sure is why the rails can’t be perfectly aligned either. Thanks for checking out the video!

    I say your furnace is doing a pretty good job in low digit temperatures. The garage door is an issue with the draft, I have one 12x12 overhead door and although I've minimized the air flow there's still a little there. I have a 30x80 pole barn with a 14ft ceiling and on a 15-20 degree day two 36,000 BTU mini-splits keeps it at 60 degrees with no problem which is the temperature I like. Most of the time I shut one off and the building will stay at 55 degrees. Insulation is a big factor of course.

    • @journeys-with-joe
      @journeys-with-joe 5 месяцев назад

      It’s a little warmer now in the mid 20’s which is more common for winter in my area and it will keep it at 60 no problem and runs every 20min or so. Yours is a bit bigger building but sounds like you’ve done your homework on insulation and heating as well. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Again, nice job, you do good work, it's always a great feeling when you finish. If I had natural gas where I am I would have done the same thing. Instead I went with two 36,000 BTU Mitsubishi mini-splits. A little pricey but very happy with how they perform, heat and AC.

    Nice job on the ceiling. I have a 30x80 pole barn and I did the ceiling myself using the same tin as you did but used 8 footers because I was working alone I rented a motorized scissor which made the job a little easier but still a lot of work. Did a row of tin then laid 2'x4' precut Rockwool on top, R23 then R15 to overlap the seams for an R39. Worked out great, glad I did it myself even though it took many hours but I enjoy doing things like that. Your garage looks great, nice planning.

    Are you going to finish the walls with plywood or tin or something else?

      Tin on top half with T-111 on bottom to make it easy to hang things on.

    I built a 24’x40’x12’ carport/shop in 2018. 24’x20’ enclosed, 24’x20’ open on three sides. 10’x8’ door & a 3’ walk through door. I paid someone to do the chert pad, and someone to pour & finish the concrete floor. I did everything else myself, including the building layout, setting the 6x6 posts, and the forming for the concrete, and all the electrical work. It has the bubble wrap insulation under the roof metal, house wrap under the exterior wall metal, and the exterior walls aren’t insulated. It took me three months from start to finish. My father in law helped up to the point the roof was covered. I did the rest on my own. I spent $15,500 in total. I’d hate to know what the same project would cost today.

      Awesome you were able to do all that work yourself. With my work schedule it would have taken 3 years instead of 3 months! Great price too you saved a ton of money doing it before 2020 which I’m sure would be double the cost at least now. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Incredibly high gauge metal and im not sure if its you or the tool but doesnt look impressive at all. I watched this and thought "struggling"

      @journeys-with-joe 5 месяцев назад

      Never used this tool before so probably just not enough experience and I had the speed set low. It’s typical pole barn steel which is only 29 gauge but will go up to 16 gauge it says.

    Doesn't look impressive looks very difficult and too much noise I use Dewalt electric tin snips or cutter, and have for 6 years on the job. Have no clue what that thing is.

    • @journeys-with-joe
      @journeys-with-joe 5 месяцев назад

      I almost bought the Dewalt snip attachment but this makes a much smoother cut. I have no past experience using this tool so I’m going slow. It definitely echoes on the steel so I agree a bit noisy.

      @@journeys-with-joe The DeWalt will cut a smooth cut if you turn the blades the right direction. It took me awhile, but once you get used to it, it works great. You can even cut circles with them.

    I'm just looking into all this myself. I'm looking to put up a 30WX24 long garage(just how it fits on my property). I've gotten quotes from different people, but I'm in over my head. I see all these pre-fabricated metal garages that seem to be really good prices, but I don't know which to go with. A traditional wood garage or a company like Big Buildings or Morton...or whoever. I'd like to get the project done for ~35K with the concrete, electric, insulation, etc...I also would like a little drainage.

      It can definitely be overwhelming with all the decisions to make. Take it a step at a time and be sure to get estimates up front on excavation as that can be a big surprise before you really even get started. I’m not a fan of the metal tube building myself they can be harder to finish out the interior later. Post frame was perfect for me as it wasn’t the most expensive and being all wood framing very easy to work with inside. Best of luck on your journey building out yours! It’s all worth it when it’s done. Thanks for checking out the video!

      35k all in is not going to happen for a built building. Sure you can get pre fabbed kit but you get what you pay for

      @@justanbaker8937 No, it'll be about 40K before the bathroom. But I got the site ready, the trees cut and then had people I know do the excavation and concrete, then helped build it with a friend with a GC overseeing it.

      @@journeys-with-joe I'm lucky to have family next door that owns a large excavating company. So I cut the trees down, burned the stumps enough that they weren't a big deal(drilled some holes and poured Kerosene in there and let them burn for a few days). Then had a friend do the cement. It's been going pretty well. Ended up going 34x26. Wood is ~18K. Lots of other small costs, but I'm lucky to have help from people I trust each step of the way(and I'm not in a hurry). Got the cement poured, the walls up, got a drain and plumbing in...as well as electrical. The only decision left is if I put solar on the roof. I think I'm going to. That'll take me well over, but should be worth it.

      @@scourge8097 sounds like you’re making great progress. Definitely good to have friends and family that can help out. Solar is a good choice if it’s too cost prohibitive to run power from a nearby source. I considered it in the beginning on mine but with our winter cloudy days and spring even I’m glad I was talked out of it. Never have to worry about what or when I use power. Everyone has a different situation though. Thanks for the update!
